Cellar West is fast becoming one of my favorite breweries in the area. This is amplified even more with the recent addition to the Old Town Erie area. Today I stopped in at the Baseline Rd location, and greatly enjoyed chatting with Jacob over a couple of pints. I gleamed some good info on possible further adventures. Last night we stopped in at Cellar West. My husband loves their Saisons. He had Flitter, a 4.8% ABV Saison. I had Acumen, a West Coast IPA popping in at 6.2% ABV. Both beers were solid. They have some snacks for purchase. Josh, our beer tender, was friendly and welcoming. The space is roomy with ample outside seating. The location is easy to find with plenty of parking. Had an absolutely excellent experience tonight. Everything from the wood panels, the quiet atmosphere, and fine and fancy brews will have me coming back for more. This is a nice niche brewery here in Lafayette, and it contrasts great with busier breweries like 4 Noses and Liquid Mechanics. The feel here is rustic, local, and very welcoming. There's only so much room inside, but hey have a large outdoor area as well. They are following all Covid things fine. I got a great flight of the Brushwood, a brown stout with some nutty flavors and smooth aftertaste, the Westfield, a lightly hopped Saison, and the Blood Orange, a great light beer that I could drink a gallon of on Sunday morning. All were poured fresh. I loved the blood orange, a super easy to drink brew that tasted a bit like juice. The Westfield was a classic Saison, and had a very neutral and clean taste. The stout was a perfect autumn beer, and I would probably come back and grab a can of this to go. Overall, a great place to explore some nuances of the beer world. The bartender Madelyn was friendly and loved beer almost more than me! She had plenty of recommendations and was the hostess of a fine cool fall night, with tables of patrons relaxing and enjoying the light music and carefree environment. Not gonna lie. The chances of me coming across Cellar West on my own would've been slim to none. A small, local brewery in Lafayette? Out of the hundreds in all of Colorado? My buddy recently collaborated with Cellar West on a design project, and he had high praises for their unique brews. Yesterday afternoon, we all decided to make the 40 minute trek from Denver. The verdict? Worth it, oh so worth it! I love little places like this putting their city on the map. You'd never know a haven for specialty craft beer awaits you inside this unassuming location. The brewery has a beautiful interior design, with awesome artwork, vinyl record player setup, and a cozy nook near their barrels. Farmhouse Ales are beers that I typically don't gravitate towards on a recurring basis. Though I truly appreciate the style and the craftsmanship behind them. When you're at Cellar West, stick with their namesake beers. The White Stable has to be one of their flagships, with notes of grapes, almost white wine like. Same goes for the Bizhou, a farmhouse porter (which I had never seen) that tasted like a bitter coffee beverage. Both were fantastic! Bonus points for knowledgeable bartenders, a small menu of food items, and a cooler full of to-go beers. I hope this review encourages someone to check out Cellar West. This is a cool spot to grab a beer with a friend! The bartenders are nice, and there is a great big patio to relax on with adirondack chairs or picnic tables. They sometimes have a live band and food truck, too! read more

Our favorite brewery on our trip to Colorado. We had the Kolsh, the Golden Ale, Saison, and Red Ale -- and all of them were 10/10. The bartenders were SO friendly, fun to chat with, and gave us more than plenty of recommendations for the rest of our trip. Wow! Been drinking around Colorado all week (and other weeks as well) and this is my favorite beer lineup. Granted I have a specific taste - saison, farmhouse, barrel aged, and sours - and this place is a bullseye for me. Tasted all 4 on tap and each was a hit, most for extra bases. If you share my passion for this style then please don't miss this brewery. It's tiny, dark, and way back in the industrial park but it's full of barrels and fantastic beer. Not all breweries are created equal. So many offer the same thing, heavy on IPAs and a few others thrown in. I'm not anti IPA but prefer a greater variety. This place nails it with some not so ordinary brews. A peach ale comes in at 8.9 abv but surprisingly tastes refreshing and not alcohol heavy tasting. The sampling of others on the menu proved this will become a new fav place to go. The space is nice and homey too. Well done Cellar West, well done. Oh yeah and a side note- there was this French food truck out front that served up escargot. Yup, that's right snails from a truck and btw they were awesome! Don't be scared. read more

Very unique place. Cozy atmosphere for a night with friends, your partner or even to come work on your laptop. Jazz night on Thursdays, open mic on Sundays and food provided by Tip Top Pies. THE BEER! If you're a fan of farmhouse ales this is definitely the place for you. However if not there are still great pilsner, IPAs, porters and dark ales on tap. To be honest when I first started coming in I wasn't a fan of farmhouse but the beers here made me a fan really quick. As Estuban said quaintly in his review, this place had a great vibe and some of the best beer in the state. I also had the Brett and it was funky but it definitely grew on me as I drank it. I will say that Breakfast of Champions was complex beer bursting with flavor. I really loved this one. As some of you know, I'm pretty particular about breweries. To me, this is the quintessential brewery. It has a small, rustic, intimate tasting room with all the barrels in the back. People are here to socialize and talk about beer. The bartender knows the beer inside out. There are no TV's or food halls. It's about beer first and I love that! Finally, I'd like to add that I love the blogs about the beers and the processes on their website. Take some time if you're interested in that sort of thing and check it out. Drove up from Denver to pick up some to go beers with my wife, who does not drink, not thinking we were going to stay. We were welcomed with a kind staff, killer tunes and a spacious patio. The gentlemen behind the counter was wonderful and hospitable which led to my wife being offered, and accepting, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. Thanks to the thoughtful atmosphere, I was able to enjoy fine crafted beverages on a patio and take home a stash of rad small batch bottles. If you are in the neighborhood or looking for some to go beer, pick up Mosaic! Fresh pronounced hops while showcasing the consistency and complexity of the Saison aged in oak. I'm a beer drinker. I try all styles, and I've had many. The beers here were not good. Period. My husband and I checked it out about a week ago, and neither of us could finish our flights. I've never returned so much beer to the bartender before. The service was great, I'll admit. The bartender was quick and attentive to folks both inside and outside. I also liked the ambiance of the place -- great decorating and style in their taproom. The worst part of the experience was paying the tab. The House Flight was advertised as 4 drafts. Since one was out, we each had a flight of 3 five ounce pours. The total charged was $24. That's $12 per flight. Considering that our flights were only 3 tasters instead of 4, it seemed quite steep. Combined with how disappointed we were in the beers, it seemed unreasonably high. Unfortunately, we wouldn't recommend this place to our friends. read more

I highly recommend Cellar West Artisan Ales, in Lafayette, Colorado. If you love farmhouse ales, then this is absolutely the place for you. If that's not your thing, no problem, because they also brew fantastic IPA, pilsner, stout, and other wide-ranging styles. Cellar West is amazingly versatile. When indoor seating is available, it's very cozy and has a great, warm atmosphere. There is also a nice outdoor patio, with some shade sails for when it's hot, and propane heaters for when it's not. This is a great place for a date, but it's also family-friendly (my kid enjoys the Rocky Mountain Soda Co. root beer that is usually available). There are lots of beer-to-go options available; they bottle and can many of their beers, and growler fills are available too. I've ordered online, by phone, and in-person. I haven't seen their beer available in stores, so I recommend going straight to the source. I've been there during the COVID-19 pandemic, to pick up beer-to-go and to enjoy a glass or two on the patio, and I have always felt very safe. My recent favorites are the Grateful Sled winter IPA, Desired Effect double IPA, S'more Stout, Kneebone Pils, and of course, Westfield, their classic, award-winning saison. The newest venture from one of the original owners of Sanitas. The beer here is unique and varied. All beers are barrel aged and bottle conditioned. Some styles they've produced include a classic farmhouse saison, an amazing porter with notes of blackberries, a bier de mars, and on the way is a black saison. Beers are 9.50 a bottle which is enough for two, and for around 4.75 a 10oz it's a great deal. I hate to disappoint but they did have a 750ml bottle of a hopped black ale with brett that was absolutely spectacular ($14), but, there were only two bottles left of this delicious small batch so you probably won't have any from this round. They're hidden away in a series of industrial buildings off of Lee Hill drive. You'll usually find some good vinyl on the stereo (feel free to bring your own), maybe a game on the tv if it's a good one, and a very relaxed beer drinking atmosphere. Stopped in on a slow, rainy Sunday. Justin was super friendly and took the time to give us a nice background of what they do, namely wild-yeasted, oak-fermented and conditioned ales. We did a tasting of everything they had on tap and then bought a bottle of porter to enjoy there with fresh glasses. The porter was no less than transcendent. Now I'm not a big beer fan, but I was really happy with the cardamom cucumber which was light and refreshing. Always excited to check out something new. These guys as of yet only sell beer in bottles but they are doing great. Some stainless fermentations, some barrels.
