What great tasting and experience at Cellar Beast. I know a little bit about wine, enough to get me into and keep me out of trouble when shopping and visiting local vineyards. Most PA vineyards and "winery's" are a lot like the proliferation of micro breweries - all the same and all not so great. Certainly there are exceptions. Cellar beast is taking a different approach - bringing west coast grapes to PA and making some spectacular wine. We did the Barrel Surf with the head winemaker, Matt Check. It was great. Great wine here! My husband also got a smoked old fashioned that he loved. The owner was super nice and explained how he got there and how he sources his grapes. Loved the Rose'. Indoor and outdoor seating. They do have a very small little bites menu-think charcuterie or tinned fish. read more

I was happy to have been chosen as a reader for "Once Upon a Glass of Wine" where the stellar sommelier, Jessi Lee Ross, served as hostess for the event. The establishment is open with a mellow atmosphere. Even in its sparseness, the winehouse exudes a tone of relaxation. Although I have liked a glass of wine on occasion from one of Pennsylvania's many wineries, it's clear that the bulk are either watered down or are equivalent to grape juice. But Cellar Beast does everything right. EVERYTHING. The wines are robust with unique flavors. They are far from sweet or weak. The event I took part in came with a wine pairing for each reading. The wines were sensational -- and memorable. My girlfriend and I cannot wait to visit again. If you want a quality wine tasting experience visit the Beast and enjoy the best. read more

Let's just simply put this as there are other wineries in the area with wine that does not compare to this "wine". They are also very rude and not accommodating. While we didn't plan our day until today, and it said to call, which I did and they said no availability because it was wine club weekend...which was fine, we could have gotten a glass or something and not been heartbroken or anything about such, but we were rudely informed that "current traffic pattern" would allow for a wine tasting. The customer service was severely lacking, and definitely not welcoming at all and the wine is subpar. So as I said there's other wineries minutes away and one is not missing out on not checking the place out! read more

The wine is made from grapes brought in from Washington state and Oregon. They claim to make the wines on an old world style so they are restrained. To me, they lack body and complexity. Worth the short trip outside of Jim Thorpe, this cute winery had indoor outdoor seating and makes their own red and whites from grapes directly shipped to them from California, Washington, etc. We had a nice chat with our bartender who was very knowledgeable, also had a good chat about craft beer, and wish I lived closer because this would be a regular hang, if I did. read more

My wife and I booked a "Sunday Day Date Tasting Package", which comes with a two tastings, a cheese plate, and a wine key. It was very worth it! All of their wines are dry and have zero residual sugar. We enjoyed listening to our sommelier Aaron take us through their wine portfolio. He let us try everything! They are very passionate about their winemaking. The cheese plate was perfect as well! The presentation was excellent. The tasting room was very cozy and great for the cold snowy afternoon. Really enjoyed the wine here. They're not the "most picturesque" as they don't grow their grapes, they use grapes from California and Washington state primarily. None of the wines they make are sweet. They do have a couple of frozen cocktails if you want a sweet drink. Also they make homemade ciders that look decent. They allow you to make your own flight and offer generous pours. I went with the Brut Rose, Pinot gris, Pinot noir rose, and Cabernet. I really enjoyed the sparkling rose (not sweet but refreshing) and the Cabernet. The tasting room has great music playing during the day and the owner told us on the weekends they have live music and food trucks. They also have a menu with light snacks. read more

Today was my first visit to Cellar Beast. I had heard several good reviews, so I had to take a ride out & check it out. In a word, I was extremely impressed!!! Not only were the wines amazing, the staff was very knowledgeable as they are winemakers and sommeliers. They take you on a journey through their wines, explaining how they're made, where the grapes were grown, even down to the process of arriving at the unique taste of each wine. The winery itself is in a rustic type setting with outdoor seating on a shaded patio, or tables and single chairs situated near a fire pit. Indoors is equally as impressive with seating at tables or comfortable chairs to enjoy the live entertainment. All in all, it was an interesting experience! I would encourage any wine lover to visit, especially if your taste runs toward dry wines. I will definitely be back!! read more

We stopped for an afternoon tasting. The old winery wasn't a hit. However, we were pleasantly surprised at the wines transformation of Cellar Beast. It looks as they escaped and are establishing their own identity. The whites were ok not as sweet as previous owners wines. The Beast came to play with the dry reds. I found a Pinot Noir with characteristics of a merlot without tannins. The cherry chocolate notes and fruit flavor appeased my palate. It was a hit, even my bride liked the dry red who typically doesn't. Given some more time I am hoping this young winery will produce more gems. read more

We came for the cider and stayed for the wine! Both are excellent! The ciders have creative and unique flavor blends and we love that they are all bone dry. We were very pleasantly surprised to find that the wine was also very well made. The wine is Californian in style, because the grapes come from Cali and are vintified in PA. The staff are highly knowledgeable, which is great and we had our flights poured by the winemaker himself, which was a really great introduction to their products. read more

Matt the owner is very rude. Wine bus full of women and we were yelled at for talking while he was speaking. Then didn't let up until he brought a woman to tears. His response: "I'll give her extra wine, she will be fine." What business person does this? This area offers many wineries with great tasting wine and beautiful views. Great wine and cider. Pretty place and nice outdoor seating, fire pit, and corn hole game. It's our 5th time here. Little disappointed that their web site said taco food truck and music on a Gorgeous Saturday in September but the food truck cancelled the day before and no idea what happened to the music. Would have been nice to update web site so we knew to bring snacks. Especially since their snack selection was much less than in the past. Surprised how few people were there at 3pm on a spectacular day (65 degrees and not a cloud in the sky). Service was okay but not as good as previously. Will definitely be back but hope the food and music is back or at least we know in advance to plan accordingly. read more
