Went to an event last evening for a food, wine pairing.
2 wines, 2 courses.
Wine: First wine was a gewurztraminer and was good, I liked the body and taste better than most I've tried of this style.
Next was some type of mix. I believe it was described as the remaining skins, grapes, etc, with additions as kind of an experiment. It was not going to be produced for sale as it was bottled too soon. It was highly carbonated and very thin. Taste similar to sour beer styles. I didn't finish it.
Food: first course was dumplings, crab meat in a Thai peanut sauce.
2 dumplings that I felt were dry and no better than grocery store frozen dumplings. Sauce was spicy, earthy but didn't hold on to dumplings.
Noodles would've been better.
Second course was salmon in crème fraiche with cubed potatoes. Salmon tasted good, maybe under seasoned and I liked the crème fraiche pairing. Potatoes were potatoes.
Problem with second course was that it was cold.
So overall, for $50/person it was disappointing. Only 2 courses and quality wasn't great. I like that he offered for us to try his experimental wine but that should not have been the primary serving. It should've been "thanks you for coming, I'd like to share an extra wine with you."
I wish I could be more positive. My dtr and wife do like their wines, but this wasn't worth the time, money. read more
