My friend and I are on a boys weekend and decided to take a stop to Holy Ghost Distillery as my buddy is into the bourbons and whiskey. We had a nice hour or so talking about the facility and trying the wares. The place is a former farmhouse from the 1800s and has gone through a few metamorphosis's before finally becoming a distillery about eight years ago. The owners had some stories about the licensing and jumping through hoops but they said they are to the point where they like what they have. It's a nice place with indoor and outdoor seating, they have some small bites for food, and a lot of good liquors. Tastings are $10 for four 1/2oz pours of either the clears (vodka), rums, or brandy/whisky. They will give you more than enough information about how each differs, and the tasting comes with a baked pretzel. I liked two of the four rums, and my friend liked two of the four whiskies. He then got a Smoked Old Fashioned (see my video!) and I went with a Mojito. Both drinks were outstanding. My friend then purchased a cocktail glass and I got a T-Shirt. $15 for the shirt, $10 each for the tasting and drink. We had a very nice time speaking with the owners. Stopped in after a day of hiking around the area. Nice old farm house converted to a distillery. It was very busy on a Saturday afternoon. We have been many times. The last two times the owner has been gruff, not friendly and seems annoyed. The very last time we went we had our 16 year old with us which had never been a problem before. We got out of the car and were met with the owner saying "21 and older." Ok not a problem. Understood, but could have been met with a more pleasant demeanor. We and other people had brought their kids multiple times. If the rules changed, then ok but was there a need for the poor attitude? Customer service counts and being nice costs nothing. We have been multiple times and brought all of our out of town guests to the distillery. We are locals. I respect their rules but I also expect to be treated with kindness and for customer service to be paramount. If you treat me and my child with disrespect then I won't come back. Cannot recommend this place enough. I live in California and was visiting my parents for the weekend. I wanted something fun to do and happened to stumble upon this place online. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The tour was interesting and we got to taste all of their house bourbons. After the tour we sat in the patio area for cocktails and snacks. I had the Maple Bourbon Smash and the Blueberry Bourbon Smash. Both were amazing, but make sure you ask for them smoked. They come in a little treasure chest full of yummy smoke. My Dad had the cucumber martini, which he loved enough to buy a second, but also bottle of the same gin so we could make it at home. They even had a great selection of mocktails for our designated driver. (Thanks Mom!) And I'd be remiss if I forgot to mention the bourbon smoked Gouda that we ordered to nibble between cocktails We had such a lovely time at Holy Ghost Distillery. Can't say enough about HGD. My wife and I stopped by and opted for a couple of cocktails. The Jan's Manhatten made with their rye bourbon and house-made sweet vermouth was absolutely THE BEST cocktail we both have ever tasted. We brought our little Shischon, Linus with us and we were able to sit in the cozy front room by a beautiful stone fireplace. The owners John and Jan were wonderfully cordial and great to talk to. I got a great education on how whiskeys and gins are made. We loved the rye bourbon and London- style gin so much we purchased a bottle of each. Upon returning home, I poured a bit of the rye bourbon in a glass of ice, and I can say that it is the finest bourbon I have ever tasted (and we KNOW good bourbons when we taste them. My family and I visited Holy Ghost this past weekend, and we absolutely loved it. There were 6 adults, 1 infant, and 1 dog, and they were easily able to accommodate us in their outdoor area. Their cocktail menu has a lot to choose from, and they have something for everyone's tastes. I'm more of a beer drinker myself, and the beer cocktails that they served were delicious. Brand new distillery off 80 in the Poconos, an otherwise distillery deprived area. So we walked in with tempered expectations. But right from there moment we stepped in, we knew we were in a special place. The spirits are plentiful and delicious. The seating, both indoors and outdoors, on the historic property, is so elegantly charming. And the owners have infused their respective Polish and Irish histories into the branding and the decor. Oh, and not only is the place dog friendly but dog obsessed. :) We were seated indoors with our pooch. Can't wait to return and try their full menu. My husband and I went to the distillery earlier today and really enjoyed it. We did a tasting outside and they followed Covid protocols very well. Their indoor area also looked inviting. Their tasting included a sample of 4 bourbons as well as a pretzel. The staff were super nice, inviting and knowledgeable. We bought a bottle of their distillers reserve bourbon and their gin.
