Vegan chocolate cupcake and vegan raspberry chocolate cake

We came to this place to try their vegan pastries because it was literally around the corner from our hotel. They have several options for vegans, such as cupcakes and cakes as well as plant based milks like oat and I believe soy and almond. We got the coconut milk, a slice of double chocolate cake, a chocolate cupcake, and a slice of raspberry chocolate cake. It all tasted great! There is plenty of indoor seating just passed the counter and they will serve it to you. It is cute inside. The guy working the day we went could have been a little friendlier, but nothing too egregious.

I am super happy that I found this gluten free heaven via Yelp. There are a couple of locations in Madrid but we went to the one nearest to Gran Via. It is off a smaller street from Gran Via, but still a tiny busy street. But Celicioso has a back area to eat that is really zen. The decor and the music imparts that of a Buddhist theme. It is easy to order takeaway at the counter or ask to be a seated in the zen area. The employees are truly patient because there are all lot of tempting healthy fare on the menu. Not only is this place gluten free, but they are very accommodating to many other dietary restrictions. They have coffee, tea, and pre-bottled drinks that support local businesses (kombucha, charcoal lemonade are examples). The star of Celisioso are the desserts. Gluten free, vegan, raw, etc. . . So many delicious choices! Just the raw, gluten free, vegan, sugar free cakes alone were hard to choose among! We opted to share a chocolate raspberry cake. Although sugar free, the cake was densely chocolately and yummy. We were thoroughly surprised. I do not recommend too highly the sandwiches though. I recommend the avo toast. The sandwiches were tasty, bit were not bursting with ingredients nor flavor when we ordered our respective panini sandwiches. I understand panini sandwiches cannot be stuffed with too much, but the items inside of our sandwiches were lacking. Oh well. . . More room for dessert!

So I thought this was a pretty good choice and was part cafe and part bakery. The offered a very tasty and healthy chicken poke. The chicken was warm. They have a lot of gluten free baked goods. The almond cake known as Santiago is a specialty. The coffee was prepared well.

This place has an amazing menu! For a coffee & tea place, there's a surprising number of food options, as well as fresh pressed juices and options for many dietary concerns (gluten free, sugar free, vegan, lactose free). I tried the weirdest thing on the menu: a beet and açaí latte, and it was good! Very earthy but smooth.

Food was amazing! Us Americans love our brunch so it was nice to be able to have a big brunch here in Spain where things are usually closed early in the am. Deserts aren't just gluten free but sugar free and delicious!!!

This place was ok at most. A total of 3 tables with 2 seats at each table. Really difficult if you want to sit down, relax and enjoy a cake and coffee. Had the tiramisu and banoffee cake which tasted alright. My recommendation: make your order to-go and book it.

Answer to prayers! The food was ALL Gluten-free!!! ALL! And...it was really good! To be able to pick anything was fantastic. The first time in ages I got to order dessert too. Wow. So, without further ado lol...I had the 'burratta with friends' salad (which wasn't salad but zoodles and I loved that). My friend and I split the stuffed avocado (beef) and for her meal the 'Crunchy bold' sandwich. She got a strawberry goji to drink and I had the spicy bomb which was fantastic. Everything was so great we had to get cupcakes too. She had an amazing red velvet and I had the banana marscapone-both so delicious! I'm so happy I found this spot.

Was walking by and thought... desserts? Yes, please!! Celicioso had a good sized line of people waiting to order but it went quickly and was worth the wait. My friend and I split a Lemon cupcake and a red velvet. Although they weren't super loaded with a tower of frosting as is usual in the states. These were delish and a welcome treat during long day of sightseeing!

I've been to the other location and I have to say I prefer that one over the one I visited today. The other location has more food options while this is mainly a pastry shop. I ordered the chicken and pesto sandwich-- the chicken was "breaded" with sesame seeds and it got a little over-toasted so I had a burnt flavor in my mouth, the pesto also left something to be desired in the flavor department. I also ordered an green tea and lemon iced tea which tasted a little watered down (although it might be because they use slushed ice). What saved the late lunch was the slice of banoffee cake that I split with my friend. It was very moist and I liked the toffee inside. However, i've had outstanding banoffee elsewhere and I think freshly whipped topping, maybe even some banana slices would have been nice. I think I'll stick to the more amplified location closer to calle de barquillo.p

Homemade Gluten Free Cheese and Tomato Muffin

I went to Celiciso today having seen the good reviews and I need to follow a Gluten Free diet. . Since going into Madrid, I have had terrible meal to terrible meal including food poisoning but my luck ended today. I ordered a Gluten Free Cheese and Tomato Sandwich and I was delighted to find the muffin home made, the muffin was very crispy and the toppings were very nice. I was also delighted that they made me a home made iced tea, it tasted a little watery but I still enjoyed the flavour with it not being Lemon which seems to be the only one I can find in Madrid. I also ordered a Carrot Cupcake, it looked and tasted very nice, being Gluten Free, it was phenomenal. Non coeliac's definitely would be unable to tell that the muffin or the cupcake was Gluten Free. As I only speak English, It didn't make communication hard as the staff spoke English and one of them written down the names and addresses of nearby restaurants with a Gluten Free menu, an amazing gesture! The staff even give me a few free cookies and cakes along the way, and not just samples! I pledged my loyalty to this resturant, visiitng once or even twice every day of my holiday to Madrid and I will do the same again as finding a Gluten Free cafe or resturant with nice food or sweet treats in Madrid was really difficult and this place raises the barrier for them all. I never thought I would have a experience as good as this in Madrid! Every Coeliac visiting Madrid must visit here!

While visiting Madrid my friend took me here for a special treat ! It been a good while since my last cup cake as gluten free ones are kinda tricky to track down! We came there during the late afternoon so they been sold out of a few ones but still I never saw such a huge variety of gluten free cupcakes looking at me ! I felt like in a little heaven of cupcakes , cakes, cookies and no worries about my all allergies ! I already was amazed but the fact they offered 3 type of vegan ones totally made my day ! Me trying to be good decided only to go for one; the chocolate one and my friend ordered the peanut butter one but I shall return before my Madrid trip is over ! Overall super delicious tasting cupcakes , cute layout and friendly service !

This place is truly a gem! I have Celiac disease and get excited about gluten free items, even when they are not that good because I am frequently grateful to be able to eat anything at all. But this place is soooooooo good! Everything on the menu is GLUTEN FREE! But be mindful that besides some sandwiches and lasagna for some reason, this is primarily a dessert place. I have been there 3 times in the last 4 days. Moreover, it is not too pricey for what you get and the servers are so nice! I loved the carrot cake cupcake. The Celicioso Cheesecake, which is cheesecake with raspberry sauce was delicious. And I also had the vanilla mascarpone cupcake which was good. I intend to go back as many times as possible before I leave Spain! read more

Seriously fabulous! Their banana bread is so good! I also split a chocolate chip cookie and lemon lime cupcake with my man. Both were delicious and had great texture. Thank God! It's been a chore eating GF in Madrid. read more

Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. My husband and I absolutely LOVED this place and went here 4 times in 3 days while we were in Madrid. Must have: Vanilla Mascarpone Cupcake. Everything was absolutely great. Even though they were busy mostly, they never compromised on their service. They were slow with bringing the food and check out but we noticed that was just a common thing in Spain. Definitely go and you won't regret it read more

SERVICE IS SHIT! COFFEE IS SHIT! I tried it this morning around 10:00 am. It was packed with suited up middle aged, definitely rich, people. I tried to order a cafe con leche to go. I stood there at the cashier waiting for nearly five minutes. They never even looked at me. Do I have to be dressed like I'm working in Wall Street for them to attend me? and when the girl finally did, she took another two minutes to even bother to take my money. Their coffee is overpriced and tastes like real crap you buy from vending machines. Honestly, this is a ridiculous, pretentious place that is nowhere as good as other cafes around it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. read more

I had high hopes for this place. I wanted to order something vegan this time around and got 2 cupcakes and a veg sandwich. The carrot cupcake had good frosting but once you bit into the bread it was the most unflavorful taste ever. Like beach sand or something. I ate it anyways because I don't waste food. Next, I tried the sandwich and yet again. The ingredients were not at all flavorful and the bread had a terrible taste to it. Lesson learned never try going to a gluten free bakery again. I'm too scared to try the other cupcake. I'm still trying to get rid of the god awful taste in my mouth. So much for wanting to chose good places to eat on my last day in Madrid. read more

Inexpensive gluten-free goodies with vegan and lactose-free options. As a person with a lot of dietary issues, it was a dream! And the only somewhat lackluster thing on the menu was the regular cookies, good but not amazing like everything else. Prices were very good as well, considering bakeries I have gone to in the US charge way more. read more

Not delicious. While it's WONDERFUL to get to go somewhere and order from an abundance of beautiful gluten free cupcakes and desserts, the flavor and texture left much to be desired. The line out the door clearly thought otherwise, but I'd say that the boxed goods from the Carrefour are far superior if you're looking for a treat. read more

This is a cute little bakery close to our hotel. Everything I tried was good. I had the chocolate meringue cupcake and banana bread which both were moist and tasty. I tasted my friend's chocolate chip cookie which had a good flavor, but I do prefer my cookies soft. And all this food paired well with their coffee. Plus they offer free WiFi with a password. read more

I was so excited to stumble across a gluten-free bakery in Madrid! I was starting to feel like I was made of ham... I ordered a cappuccino, banana bread, and a little sandwich -- all of which were reasonably priced. Our server (who is maybe the owner?) accidentally gave us the wrong kind of sweet bread and was so apologetic that she offered us another piece on the house -- honestly, I didn't even notice because the apple bread I'd been eating (instead of the banana bread I ordered) was so delicious! This is sweet little place with such friendly service -- I'm only sorry I found it on my last day in Madrid and wasn't able to go back! read more

I would give it a 10 if that were allowed. My child, who is a Celiac, agreed. We have been to GF bakeries, and restaurants, worldwide and this was THE BEST EVER BY FAR! We had food, baked goods there and baked goods to go. All of it was EXCELLENT. If you eat gluten free (or dairy free) go to this place. It is EXCELLENT! TEN STARS! read more

I went to Madrid for a city break in the summer of 2014, we found this excellent gluten free cafe, I have to say it is the best I have ever been in for variety of cakes and sandwiches which are all gluten free. I especially enjoyed their Toastadas (Toast with oil and tomato) and their Banana bread, I have never found Gluten Free Banana bread in my life until I came here and thoroughly enjoyed it. If I am ever in Madrid again, I wouldn't hesitate to come here. It is in a great location as well, located so close to the Gran Via Metro station. read more

Gluten free bakeries are often subpar and I sometimes wonder if gluten free people will eat any mediocre thing because they are so starved for sweets. When I became gluten free I learned to bake myself because of all the mediocre bakeries and baked items out there. My test for a good gf bakery is would I serve this to friends who eat wheat and would they like it and not know they are eating gf? The answer here is yes. Celicioso is one of the best gluten free bakeries I have been to ever (in the cities of San Francisco, New York City, Beacon NY, Boston and Washington DC). I had 3 cupcakes here: one vegan chocolate with raspberry topping, one banana cupcake with mascarpone, and one vanilla cupcake with mascarpone and raspberry. All were very tasty, moist, excellent texture and perfectly sweet. My favorite was the vanilla marscarpone as I liked the flavor, texture, moistness combo. My second favorite was the banana though this was my sisters favorite cupcake. Sad to say as a chocolate lover that the chocolate was my least favorite but its not surprising given how hard it is to make vegan gluten free baked goods. Im not a fan of most buttercream so loved the refined touch of marscarpone icing on the cakes. I had great coffee and teas (african rooibos). I would come here again as everything was very good plus they have sandwiches, cakes, pies and brownies to try which Im sure would be delicious too. I will come back the next time Im in Madrid. read more

Deceivingly bad. The place looks great, and all of the food looks delicious, but everything tasted terrible. I got a mocha (so sweet I couldn't drink it), then a cappuccino (tasted burnt), a chicken pesto sandwich (so dry I literally choked on it, and it had no pesto or flavor), the spicy tofu bowl (once again no flavor, just incredibly salty), and a chia seed pudding (dried out on the top and even had mold on it). Additionally, the other bowl left in the refrigerator next to mine was actively rotting. I would be shocked to learn it has any regular customers whatsoever. As a person with celiac disease I had high hopes, so this was a total disappointment. Almost as inedible as gluten itself. read more

I've tried 4 types of pastries here -- all completely delicious. The service is a little inattentive and the ambience is not great. Next time, I would go for take-away and bring it to one of Madrid's many beautiful outdoor squares or parks. read more

We were excited to try Celicioso based on prior reviews and the fact it is 100% Gluten Free. Upon arriving, we were greeted by several cockroaches. One even ended up in my girlfriend's hair. We promptly left. I would avoid Celicioso at all costs. read more

It is really close to the subway station, so easy to get there. As soon as I arrived, the people working there were really nice. And everything looked so yummy! I got a granizado and a cupcake. So good! And not expensive. Totally recommend it :) read more

We happened upon it and I was so pleasantly surprised. I think we went three times during our time in Madrid. I loved the counter experience, I'd definitely recommend that option. I wasn't looking to sit down and do all of that upstairs so my review is solely based on counters on the first floor. The locals love this spot and that is quite obvious. I was told in advance that they do and coming here was very enjoyable. The pastries and coffee are very yummy, you won't be disappointed. Makes for the perfect spot if you really want to get your day started but want to grab a quick bite before doing so.

Got a pistachio raspberry pastry on our way out as well. This spot was hustling and bustling for a reason, it was a great place to grab a bite and sit a second.
