    Chicken Shawarma
    Sam K.

I was looking for a unique, cheap restaurant near the Griffin MSI, and this one was a lucky find! The chicken is juicy and flavorful, with nice charred veggies mixed in. The rice was amazingly fluffy, spiced and accompanied the chicken well. Overall a good value, good taste. Service is fast, and the water inside the restaurant has citrus and mint flavors mixed in, though unsure if it's always served that way. Good seating inside although more casual takeout vibes rather than a sit-in place.

Today, my order took much longer than usual. I think they actually forgot my order until the waitress noticed that I was still sitting there with nothing on my table. Despite that, the food was delicious as it always is!

Falafel Plate with rice and sautéed veggies

Decent Mediterranean food near the University of Chicago campus. Located in a strip shopping center, parking was so easy on a Saturday night. Order at the counter. Started with the Hummus Sudki Style and a Sheperd's Salad to share with our party of five. Classic hummus with pine nuts, olive oil, parsley and sumac. Next time I would ask for less olive oil as it was too oily. The salad was fantastic! Romaine lettuce with a kitchen sink of my favorites!! Dates, goat cheese, pecans and roasted corn tossed with a honey Dijon vinaigrette. So delicious! Next, the classics. Shawarma and falafel. The falafel wrap is filled with falafel, tomatoes, cucumbers, mango chutney and a spicy harissa tahini served with a side of fries. The falafel plate comes with basmati rice and grilled veggies. The chicken shawarma wrap also is filled with cucumbers and tomatoes and comes with a side of fries. I opted for something different. The lamb barbacoa tacos were interesting. The nutty salsa, harissa tahini and sumac pico gave a little kick. The basmati rice was light and delicious. Service was good. Next time I would get the salad with added falafel. Nice for a quick and easy family dinner with our daughters and a new roomie.

6pc Harissa Glazed Wings & Arab Swag Tacos

I came for the wings and will be returning for their tacos. We came on a late Sunday morning. They were a little quiet with maybe one person picking up a takeout order. We placed our order a the counter and didn't have to wait long for our food to be made. We ordered their 6 piece Harissa Glazed Chicken Wingz, their Arab Swab Tacos and their Watermelon Sugar drink. The harissa wings have been on my radar for some time and I'm glad I finally got a chance to come down here. They were costed in harissa tahini, topped with a garlic sauce and served with fries. The wings were delicious. Perfectly fried and very filling with the fries. But the highlight of this lunch was their Arab Swag Tacos. The meat was covered in the same harissa tahini and a nutty chili salsa, with roasted corn. They put a lot of meat in this tacos and they were really delicious. These were served with rice. Best way to eat this is directly on top of the rice. Anything that falls off the taco you can mix it with the rice and empty the rice that way. My wife really enjoyed this place as well and we can't wait to come back.

First time at Cedars. Salmon was delicious. I would recommend is you're looking for a flavorful and light meal.

We originally checked out this spot for a comedy show, but decided to come early for the food. We got falafel, chicken wings, Arab swag tacos, & watermelon sugar. The Falafel was nice and crisp on the outside, but soft on the inside, and I loved it with the dill sauce that came with it. The flavor in the Arab swag tacos & chicken wings was PHENOMENAL! I highly recommend this spot. Entrees are $14-16 at this time. Cash & card accepted. The staff was super nice and welcoming. The parking lot was large with plenty of spots, and free. If you get a chance to check out their comedy show, do yourself a favor and go. 50% of all proceeds benefit Palestine, and the comedians were hilarious! It was a great show for the $20 price tag and went about 2 hours. This is a place I will definitely be back to when I'm in the Hyde Park area.

Randomly discovered this place while looking for a quick meal in the area and later made a point to go out of my way for a return visit. The food is delicious - I absolutely love the Falafel Plate. Service is fine, and it's a nice, casual ambiance for sitting down to enjoy your meal.

This is a small place near the University of Chicago. It was ok overall. They had only a few food options when I was there but I was still able to get something that I like. I had lamb tacos. They were flavorful and tasted good. This place and other nearby stores share a small parking lot (free). Was lucky enough to get a spot in the evening on a weekday.

This place is one of the many whose social media is doing its job in getting asses in the door. It wasn't on my radar & tbh it sort of misleading. It's more urban or modernized than your typical Mediterranean fare. I've never come across an alleged Mediterranean place with chicken wings & pitas being substituted for flour tortilla shells. Food was ok. Doubt I'd return

First time here my parents recommended this place. The staff were friendly. The chicken shawarma wrap was good with the fries until I ate the other half... soon as I bit into the wrap it was hair in it. I lost my appetite after that.

Not chewy at all which was nice. There were a ton of olives which I didn't think complimented the calamari. Overall, still 5/5. Mushroom Tava - mushrooms were cooked perfectly and were delicious. One of my favorite dishes of the night. 5/5 Stuffed Mushrooms - this dish fell flat on flavor and had more of the typical mushroom texture. 3/5 The Hunkar entrée initially was extremely salty. I mentioned this to the waiter and they remade it, which turned out great, so I'm hoping the salty dish was a one-off. 5/5 Our waiter was very friendly and attentive throughout. The restaurant itself is also casual upscale, so nice for most occasions. Avaspi exceeds expectations and I highly recommend this excellent Mediterranean restaurant.

It's an incredibly popular Turkish sandwich, loved and adored in the city of Berlin, Germany of all places. Our son, visiting us here in Chicago (from New York) was taunting the virtues of this rather large and tasty sandwich and of course, the city of Chicago has a restaurant making this; just right up the street. Döner 97 on Clark Street adjacent to Lincoln Park is serving up this delicious, sloppy (in a good way) sandwich with all of the fixings. I had their Combination Döner Sandwich a combination of both beef / lamb and chicken kebab sandwich with tender, seasoned meat, fresh veggies, and flavorful sauces in warm flatbread. I really liked it. We also bought a Chicken Döner Sandwich with delicious chicken döner kebab sandwich: tender, seasoned chicken, fresh veggies, and flavorful sauces in warm flatbread. Also very good. These Döner sandwiches are huge like a massive Mexican burrito, messy like a sloppy Joe sandwich, but fun like French Fondue. Döner 97 was a first for me and I was pleasantly surprised!
