I had the pleasure of ordering from Cedars Cakes, which is a cute little bake shop in the Baltimore County area, and they have been open for a year now. I ordered a birthday cake for my mom's birthday celebration, and it started from seeing a post on Instagram. I spoke with the owner on the phone to discuss my vision for the cake, and after seeing the outcome, I have to say it was executed well! The cake had four layers, and we had the option to choose two flavors - so we went with vanilla and lemon. Both tasted so good! I'm usually not a fan of lemon anything, but I was really impressed with this one. Unfortunately, I didn't like the outer red icing. It wasn't edible and had a very bitter taste. I understand that darker icings require more food coloring, but this was to the point where it couldn't even be eaten.
Because the actual cake itself was really good, it was easy to overlook the frosting. I usually don't eat too much icing anyway, but we chose this color because of the theme of my mom's party. I'm sure a lighter frosting that doesn't require much food coloring wouldn't have such a bitter taste.
Cedars Cakes also sells cupcakes and other baked goods, such as cookies and macaroons in the store. If this bake shop was here ten years ago when I was attending college in the area, I know I would've frequented so often! The cake was absolutely delicious and my mom was very happy with it. Thank you, Cedars Cakes for such a beautiful cake!! read more
