Our youngest grandson was playing a football game Saturday afternoon on the field at Stony Point…read moreHigh School. He is on a privately managed & funded team as his public school doesn't offer football. The Field at Stony Point is excellent. It's Astroturf is very well-maintained. There are plenty of stands for the crowd to utilize so their fans have adequate seating. There were umbrellas attached to the metal bleachers-thankfully it's out of the hundreds but still mid to high nineties so many families brought them to protect them from the sun. They only had one entrance open, so it was quite a walk from the parking area. Since I mentioned the parking area, I might as well state that the reason this location gets four stars instead of five is the parking lot (during times when there's game overlap) is way too small and there is no other option. The parking lot that is used for the stadium is next to the little school that's on the corner the Large Parking area that students probably use is not readily available on the weekends. Sadly, because I am directionally challenged, I would not have been able to find my way walking all the way around the buildings that I would need to walk by -to get to the one entrance of the stadium that was open. Now for more positives.....the restrooms were clean and well stocked. There was a concession stand that was open and offered beverages, as well as nachos, candy, and other goodies.. I learned how to purchase my ticket to get in with an app and they offered many choices, (PayPal, Venmo, etc. ) but no cash and their credit card machine was broken. The security people were evident, which I thought was really nice and that I have not seen at games. One of the team family members was manning the admission area and was being a patient and explained how I could purchase my ticket and that if I wanted any concessions-they needed to be purchased in advance at an app also. You were allowed to bring in water, but no other food or beverages . (this proves you can teach an old dog new tricks.!!!) Overall, this was a positive experience, and I hope that the team plays there in the future !!!

I have been a student of this high school for about 2 years and I can tell you that there are so…read moremany ups and downs that I have with the school. One of the first thing I want to tell what I like about the school is the science fair. As much as what people dread about the science fair, it is a place where I get to speak about my research to a panel of researchers that have a common interest in what I am doing. Therefore, I learned a ton throughout such programs, along with many others that the school has to provide to me as a student. Because of these learning experiences, I grow as a student. However, there are some concerns that led me to give it 4 stars instead of 5 stars. I found that the school still follows the conventional schooling that most public schools follow. It is through this which results in high stress and bullying, which then leads to the underscoring of the school. Furthermore, the uniform policy does not change how it leads to a cutting-edge school (although compared to other public schools, it is). But overall, I still love the school and I wish that every low-income students and parents who are seeking to give the best transformative school comes to here before considering others.

I am extremely disappointed with how this school has treated my son. In the short amount of time he…read morehas been here, a former staff member harassed him--following him to the restroom, making comments about his clothing, asking other students personal questions about him, and constantly picking on him. We reported these concerns and had a meeting about it, but all we were told was that she was no longer at the school. While things slightly improved afterward, nothing was done to address the harm that had already occurred. To make matters worse, another staff member not only went around asking another student for my son's phone number, but she actually called him after school to ask about drama happening at the school--nothing school-related, and nothing appropriate for an adult to discuss with a student. This behavior was completely unprofessional and unacceptable, yet the school chose to ignore it. Despite ignoring repeated misconduct by their own employees, the school immediately moved to expel my son the moment he was involved in one fight--while defending himself. Given everything he has endured, this feels like retaliation. The difference in accountability between a child and adult staff members is alarming. There are also major communication issues at this school. Many teachers struggle with a language barrier that leaves students confused about instructions and assignments, and little effort is made to fix it. This is especially harmful for students with 504 plans, who rely on clarity and support--not additional obstacles. Overall, sending our child to this school has been one of the worst decisions we could have made. Even in such a short time, it has become clear that this school is not here to support or protect its students. This experience has been unfair, discouraging, and completely unacceptable. Students and families deserve far better.

Our daughter improved so much within a short period of time and it was measurable. We have been super impressed with the teachers and the higher level of academics. Kids at Challenger School are a year or more ahead of their peers who attend highly rated public schools. While the curriculum is excellent, what we love the most about Challenger School is how much our daughter's personality has blossomed. She has become more self-confident and independent. She was super shy and had major separation anxiety issues. Now she engages everyone in conversation, and she happily participates in school performances, speaking and singing in front of a crowd of her peers, teachers and other parents. We are super proud of her progress and achievements! Challenger School is costly, but worth every single penny! However, it may not be for everyone. It is a very structured environment. You won't find any hand-holding or coddling, as they strongly encourage independence and independent thinking. They teach every student about personal responsibility. It is the student's responsibility to make sure their homework is done on a daily basis and brought to the school, and they actually want the students to do their homework on their own. It sounds crazy, but my daughter truly loves doing her homework! We consider ourselves blessed that our daughter attends Challenger School. We couldn't be happier with the school and the teachers. We highly recommend it!

They are gaining the foundations for respecting themselves and others and they understand why letters make certain sounds or why numbers add up to a certain sum...not just bc that's the way it is. The teachers are awesome!!! Especially Margaret Zachary. She is always willing to let us voice our concern (if any), is extremely cordial and insanely nice. From the front desk seeing Ms. Sara to every teacher there, each interaction and experience has been very positive. The parents that have their children in there seem to have a similar sentiment. If I could add more stars to this review, I would. If I could add flying monkeys on spaceships to the stars on the review, I would. Don't be fooled by the negative reviews. I have had my kids in this school for over a full school year now as well as summer and it's the best decision I've made for them in their early childhood development and growth.
