One of the most beautiful things about Hill Country is how the school truly lives out its mission: to know your child, love your child, and prepare your child. The teachers go above and beyond in caring for my child not just academically, but spiritually and emotionally. Every day, I see the intentional ways they invest in him, and it's deeply moving as both a parent and an educator. The spiritual growth I've witnessed in my son has been incredible. He's only in Pre-K, but already he's learning to pray, engaging with God's Word, and building a foundation that will last a lifetime. Hearing him pray every night before bed, without prompting, is one of the greatest blessings I could ever ask for as a mom. What makes Hill Country especially impactful is how every subject is taught through a Biblical worldview. It's not just about teaching math or reading; it's about teaching truth, character, and purpose. Our children are learning to love Jesus through every lesson and every experience. This matters so much to our family because we want our children to grow in their relationship with Christ, not just know about Him. After I had specifically told her I would speak with both the teacher and my son's pediatrician, she removed my son from class and told him directly that he needed to see a doctor for his behavior. When I picked him up, he was crying and asking, "What's wrong with me, Mom?" No child should be put in that position, and that conversation should never have been had with him -- that was my responsibility as his parent. This was not an isolated incident. I had emails to teachers go unanswered, and overall the partnership we expected from a private school simply was not there. Since leaving, I've learned that other families have had similar experiences, where the principal seemed to push an ADHD diagnosis despite disagreement from teachers and parents. In our case, both my son's third- and fourth-grade teachers at HCCS and his pediatrician did not believe he had ADHD. When my son transferred mid-year into public school, the difference was night and day. His new teacher said he was incredibly bright, just likely bored, and he immediately began thriving. He made straight A's, came home happy, and was excited to return to school each day. The contrast showed me that the problem was not with my son but with the way he was being handled at HCCS. We expected much better from a private institution, but sadly, our experience was one of disappointment, lack of communication, and a principal who placed her opinion above parents, teachers, and even doctors.

We reported these concerns and had a meeting about it, but all we were told was that she was no longer at the school. While things slightly improved afterward, nothing was done to address the harm that had already occurred. To make matters worse, another staff member not only went around asking another student for my son's phone number, but she actually called him after school to ask about drama happening at the school--nothing school-related, and nothing appropriate for an adult to discuss with a student. This behavior was completely unprofessional and unacceptable, yet the school chose to ignore it. Despite ignoring repeated misconduct by their own employees, the school immediately moved to expel my son the moment he was involved in one fight--while defending himself. Given everything he has endured, this feels like retaliation. The difference in accountability between a child and adult staff members is alarming. There are also major communication issues at this school. Many teachers struggle with a language barrier that leaves students confused about instructions and assignments, and little effort is made to fix it. This is especially harmful for students with 504 plans, who rely on clarity and support--not additional obstacles. Overall, sending our child to this school has been one of the worst decisions we could have made. Even in such a short time, it has become clear that this school is not here to support or protect its students. This experience has been unfair, discouraging, and completely unacceptable. Students and families deserve far better.

I have asked repeatedly for specific, weekly updates on my child's lessons and never received these updates consistently. I cannot monitor my child's academic progress or help him at home without knowing what he is learning in the classroom. My child tells me that he is not regularly receiving new lessons. Without further information from the school, I have to believe that this is true. After his mid-year MAP scores declined, I began home-schooling him in the afternoons, because the classroom instruction is inadequate. Our family chose Goodwater because I was assured that the Montessori model would meet each child's academic needs. This was preferable to our family because we wanted to see our child continue to progress apace with his ability. Instead, the children who are quiet, self-directed, and ahead of grade level are neglected and left to coast. It seems to me now to be a systemic and endemic issue at the school in which parents are deliberately kept as ignorant as possible as to what their children are (not) being taught, to disguise how far standards have fallen within the classroom. After the most recent parent-teacher conference when I directly asked, again, for more specific and regular information on what my child was learning, I was told that was not the Montessori model. There is nothing in a Montessorian educational model that precludes sharing regular information with parents. At a basic level, if a school cannot regularly and provably show parents that their children are learning and progressing, then that school is failing its students.

She is on her third teacher and when I came to pick her up the teacher told me she was sitting in ants and was crying and someone came to her. But nothing was done about it. No apology, no solution, and just a shrug of the shoulders was what we got in response to all of her ant bites. This all stems from Mr. Headley who is the director's father-in-law and he is a leader at good Shepherd Lutheran Church. I also know many people that used to work there and got fired by him and have many stories to tell you about how crooked he is and this business is. If I could attach all the smart Alec and nasty rude emails he sent in response to a logical concern I would. And I'm not sure why he would respond instead of the director but the director ended up staying out of the whole thing and was not there when my husband went to talk to him. We were kicked out and told we cannot come back tomorrow because I did not show up to the meeting and he knew I was not going to show up because I had a previous appointment. He has control issues and they never take responsibility or have solutions for what can be done next and have never made apologies or taken actions or offered to talk to the rotation of staff.

It just didn't work out for logistical reasons, however, I did go take a tour and visit for a while with the director. I have been searching many day cares in Cedar Park and was downhearted and stressed when I found Pathways. Immediately upon viewing the campus and security and classrooms I felt at ease. It is clean and seemed to be a safe and loving environment. The director was incredibly pleasant and understand of my situation and spent time with me to answer my questions and talk through my concerns. I would be thrilled to have my kids there or to recommend this to other parents. I wish it could have worked out for me, but I wanted to be sure to write this review of my experience there and to let other parents know they should definitely consider this a TOP option.
