My whole family used to come to this clinic, but we eventually decided to stop due to repeated negative experiences with one of the receptionists (male, wears braces). Unfortunately, our visits were often unpleasant because of his behavior. He came across as rude, impolite, and unprofessional on multiple occasions. As the first point of contact for patients, a receptionist should be welcoming and respectful, but that was not our experience here. We hope the clinic takes this feedback seriously and works on improving their front-desk customer service, as it makes a big difference in patient experience. read more

My mom filed a complaint against Cedar Hill Modern Dentistry with her insurance because Cedar Hill Modern Dentistry overcharged approx. $500 for an ill-fitting bridge, they botched and refused to issue Mom a full credit. After several attempts for CHMD to correct their botched work and months pursuing dispute for billing overcharge, Cedar Hill Modern Dentistry reluctantly issued a full credit. Cedar Hill Modern Dentistry had the audacity to think mom would continue coming to CHMD and Michael Wistrom DDS of CHMD FedEx a "Termination of doctor-patient relationship" to her. I personally had an awful experience with Cedar Hill Modern Dentistry on my first visit too, because I witnessed personally how unprofessional the front desk staff were towards my mom, I immediately told CHMD, I wouldn't be returning for my 6 month follow up appointment. read more

MISCOMMUNICATION I went in for a wisdom tooth extraction. This was my first visit to this office after switching insurance, so it was also my first impression of the place. The initial check-up for X-rays and assessment went smoothly. The dentist was professional and explained that the problematic tooth needed extraction. He also suggested removing all four wisdom teeth, but I clearly declined and said I only wanted the one causing pain removed. He mentioned local anesthesia would be used since my tooth was fully erupted. This is where the confusion began. The front desk representative came into the room to discuss insurance and payment. When I went to the front desk, I was presented with a quote of $1,728.00 with insurance for four "Complete Bony Extractions," one hour of general anesthesia, and therapeutic drugs. That was not what the dentist told me, nor what I agreed to. I explained that I only wanted one tooth extracted and that all of my wisdom teeth were fully erupted, so "bony extraction" did not make sense. He adjusted the quote, but it was still for all four teeth, now listed as "Surgical Extraction of Erupted Tooth," totaling $1,279.00, with me paying $947.00. At this point, I firmly stated again: I only want ONE tooth removed under local anesthesia. He changed the quote a third time -- finally for one tooth -- but it still included general anesthesia and therapeutic drugs. The new total was $847.00. It still seemed high for a single erupted tooth under local anesthesia, but I was exhausted from repeating myself and agreed. I was scheduled for the following Monday. What I was not clearly told was that this appointment was only to make a payment for surgery -- not the extraction itself. I showed up confused, and when I explained the misunderstanding, I was told I should have checked my email. While I take some responsibility for not reading it carefully, this should have been clearly communicated verbally. I paid half ($847 total, split into payments), with the remaining balance due 30 minutes before the extraction. I was told the surgeon is only there once a month. Today, I arrived at 6:30 AM for my extraction. I was then told that I needed a driver present to sign paperwork and remain during the procedure because I had signed a consent form. This confused me because I was under the impression I was receiving local anesthesia -- not general anesthesia. My wife had her wisdom teeth removed under local anesthesia and drove herself home. I was not expecting to need a driver. My wife could not make it on such short notice, and I had no other options available that early in the morning. When I asked why I needed a driver if I wasn't going under anesthesia, the only response I received was, "You signed the consent form." I was so fed up that i asked to cancel and a refund, it would be 100$ cancelation fee but i didn't care at this point. I was driving home when i get a call saying that the Doctor said local anesthetic would be fine and that if i could come back. I drove back agreed only because i was in pain. Did the procedure, it only took 20 min and drove home just how i was expecting it to go from the beginning. At the end with the down payment i gave, my new quote was they owed me 270.00$. Also no need for "Therapeutic Drugs". WHAT A MESS. Overall, the dental work itself may have been fine, but the repeated miscommunication regarding: The number of teeth being removed The type of extraction The type of anesthesia The cost breakdown The purpose of appointments The requirement for a driver made this a very frustrating experience. My Dentist of 35 years retired a while back and sold the business to a young Dentist who relocated to Oregon. This new Dentist is fine and the staff is ok. All things being equal I would probably stay with the new guys. However, every time I go in for an appointments the rates for each service is higher than before. It's now close to $300 (and they don't take my insurance) for a routine cleaning so time to look around. Contacted three local dental facilities that have decent ratings on Yelp. Modern Dentistry was one of them. E-mailed them several basic questions about insurance coverage and so on and explained my situation. I made it clear that I had a regular dentist and only wanted to find out about routine things like cleanings. Amanda got back to me almost immediately and it was well past normal working hours so that was impressive. She did not answer any of my questions and wanted to schedule an appointment to see the Dentist. I once again explained my situation and asked the same and a few more questions. All I need is a cleaning. I just wanted to know if the cleaning was fully covered by my insurance. A pretty simple, easy to understand question. Amanda got back with a classic "unfortunately, I can't answer your questions until the Dentist examines you" stonewalling dodge. Your mileage may vary but I got a very creepy sensation from the way this conversation was going. A cash register ka-ching sort of sensation. I am always at Defcon One when a provider won't answer a straightforward question and is evasive about costs. Could be, the Dentist is fine. But the office staff is at the very least unresponsive. I'm not about to walk in there, unquestioningly follow their agenda and walk out holding a massive bill for services I don't want and didn't ask for. My expectation was that I would hear something along the lines of, "Yes, that insurance plan covers 100% of the cost of a routine cleaning (or not). Would you like to schedule a appointment for a cleaning and a complimentary new patient exam?" If you are looking for a new patient relationship with a dental clinic I would give these guys a wide berth. So one down, three to go. UPDATE: The bot responded claiming "it wasn't us". The person who responded there was indeed the subject of this review but nice dodge. Jennifer is hands-down the best dental hygienist I've ever had. The procedure was *almost* painless (it's pretty impossible to avoid any pain), and she was highly-skilled and constantly attentive to my comfort. She also explained the process and after-care thoroughly. My initial consult with Dr. E also went smoothly (still waiting on first full appointment), with a thorough explanation of what to expect, and Rafael does a great job of explaining not only billing and fees, but details about procedures too. read more

The office staff was friendly. My insurance changed so I wanted to try an in-network dentist to save money. As a new patient, I got about 1.5 million x-rays without being asked if I wanted so many. Weird. I had scheduled a new patient appointment, which, oddly enough, did not include a cleaning. Super weird. I was there for nearly two hours and Dr. Tran made me feel awful. I have excellent hygiene practices, but genetically crummy teeth. He asked no questions, didn't seem to listen to my story or care about my concerns- just took more pictures (at $90 a pop) with a fancy little camera and told me my teeth were FULL of cavities, I needed multiple root canals and crowns, and then referred me to an out-of-network endodontist. Then I needed to schedule another appointment to come back for a cleaning later that day. (Or they said I could wait around a few hours. nice.) The fluoride treatment they use leaves your mouth feeling sticky and gross. The bill I received was outrageous. Including an $88 charge that was 100% NOT covered for "oral hygiene instructions" that I don't remember anything about. The amount of x-rays were unnecessary, especially considering they were not all covered by insurance. My kids dentist and my old dentist used to run things past me before doing them, I assumed this was common practice. Guess not! So, thumbs down for the cost, super thumbs down for making me feel dirty & broken. Don't recommend! :( read more

Dr. Kenny Tran is great. Very skilled, meticulous with great attention to detail. And very kind and thorough. I've had several crowns redone over the past year and Dr. Tran has taken excellent care of each tooth. Prior to becoming his patient, I had a tooth with several root canals, two surgeries and was recommended to pull. He spent over an hour adjusting my bite determining I grind my teeth at night. That saved my tooth from repeated trauma and gave it the space to heal. I highly recommend him as a dentist. read more

My daughter had a baby molar that had broken in half and became very painful on a Friday morning. Our regular dentist was going to be closed until Monday, but Dr. Patel was able to see her as an emergency patient that day. He was able to get her tooth taken care of so she didn't have to spend the weekend in pain. He even called the next day to check in on how she was doing. This is the first yelp review I've written, because I felt so strongly about what happened to me. I had come in for a teeth cleaning, and x-rays and had mentioned that I had a small chip on my front tooth, not anything serious but it snagged my tongue a bit. Dr. Chad was very kind but was not very knowledgeable about the correct route to take. He first suggested a veneer and said they were on special for $400, which I did not need. He then measured my teeth and said since they were the same size, if he smooths out the chip and removes a small stain (which I didn't ask him to do) he would need to file my other tooth to make it look the same. I told him I didn't want any major filing, it was just a small chip. He seemed to understand, and say he would smooth it out free of charge. However, what he did instead was remove over 1 mm of my enamel on just one side of my tooth. He made it uneven, and whats worse it hurt incredibly bad. He showed me while laying down and I couldn't tell until I got in the car. I immediately made an appointment to come back and try and undo what was done. When I called the office to try and schedule him to bond my tooth with composite material to try and fix it, they told me they didn't know what "bonding" was. I was so put off by the lack of concern and care that was being showed towards me. What is worse is his actions were unnecessary and harmful, when he never offered to bond the chip in the first place. I was so scared to go back and have him ruin the bonding since his office manager said they didn't "know" what that was, that I made another appointment at a different office. It ended up costing me over $100 to fix his mistake, because I was getting married and he ruined my smile, that I had spent $1,000 on with Orthodontia and a prior root canal. Dentistry is something that is so important to how we view ourselves, I'm not saying don't ever go here, but please consider this before you make the same mistake I did, and end up having to pay the price to fix it. read more

Well, I'm back. My review of Dr. Kenny Tran remains 5 star the office staff remains 5 star Now for the 0 star winner DR. MAKKATTIO He does the periodontic work for modern dentistry Offices. I had a root canal failure and needed to go in and have a tooth pulled. I was referred to Dr. MAKKATTIO. I thought we were meeting for an initial consult, but he pulled up my X-rays said the area was very infected, the tooth needed to be pulled and the infection cleaned out. Before I knew, without any explanation as to how the process was gonna play out he was sticking needles into the roof of my mouth. I cannot even begin to tell you how painful that was, it was a long procedure where I ended up with two skin graphs and a bone graph and a sinus augmentation with no form of sedation. when I confronted him about the sedation and that the way it was done was cruel, he THEN told me he wasn't licensed to do sedation and that some people can take the pain and some can't it was like the wild, wild west movie where the dentist is the mayor the bar keep, and the barber! The remainder of my care and implant is being completed elsewhere. That to say, if this is how you like you care and you are one of those that CAN take the pain then DR. He also filled two cavities I had the same day, which is nice for someone who has a busy schedule and it's hard to carve out extra time to come back in. Today I was a new patient with Dr. Tran. He was outstanding, very kind, very thoughtful and caring. I have always been to dentists who just want to get you in and out their chair. Dr. Tran examined my teeth, explained to me what was causing me pain, what could cause me pain in the future, and showed me how we could fix it. He didn't hide any information from me and was very open with me about what my treatment would look like. The number one thing I loved about coming here today was that I felt cared for by everyone I encountered. Dr. Tran especially shows that he cares for you instead of rushing through your procedure and getting you out the door. This dental office is the best office in Oregon. I never had a better experience. Jennifer was so nice, friendly, and super helpful. She helped me with the X rays. Usually X ray is unconformable but it was so easy doing it at this office. The manager is also so nice and helpful. I came back for cleaning, the dental hygienist was awesome! After having a bad experience at a different local dentist, I decided to give this place a shot even tho it was new and had no reviews. I dropped by to check if they accepted my insurance. Rachel who's super friendly greeted me, and I was impressed by her knowledge in dealing with insurance. It's evident that she's clearly very experienced. She was able to patiently answer all my questions, and with a smile :) I was very happy with my actual appointment. Dr. Achatz and Jen are so personable, and also such a great team. They really try their best to make you feel comfortable. They work really efficiently together and I felt like they really cared about me as a person and I wasn't just another patient coming through. They presented the options for the work I needed, but I didn't feel pressured to do additional work, and it didn't feel like they were just trying to make $$ off me (as I felt at the other dentist that I switched from). I especially liked the way they were able to explain everything to me in depth and with patience. Dr. Achatz was also very skillful, and I'm very pleased with the result. The office is very clean and comfortable. As the name suggests, it's definitely very modern! I was impressed with how advanced the equipment was. Overall, I would definitely recommend. I saw Dr. (Chad) Aschautz and at first I thought this was a great place with a great Dr. after my initial visit where I had a planing and scaling and temp crown put on, I was happy. Then, I developed a nasty infection in one of the areas that were deep cleaned. Dr Chad literally pushed the infection out (ouch) and re-cleaned it. My permanent crown was not adjusted once it was placed so I developed severe sensitivity and pain and had to return again. After a couple of weeks it was still sore so I had to go back, only this time Dr Chad had moved away and a new Dr saw me. He didn't seem to really care about me or what I had been through and was supposed to do a tissue check as a follow up to my scaling, but shrugged it off and didn't. Then, Instead of fixing the crown he filed the real tooth above it! Now that tooth feels funky and has pain. I have a previous bridge on the other side and they didn't consider how the crown would change my whole bite, now it's all off and I'm miserable. I had no pain or issues before going in for a routine cleaning. This place is obviously still getting its feet under them and may never will. I'm going elsewhere. read more
