Especially if you are young and your teeth are in pristine condition. Dr Nguyen seems to be ill-suited to dealing with geriatric patients though. I am hearing disabled and with everyone wearing masks it was impossible to have a conversation. My not being able to hear her seemed to irritate the doctor to no end. I worked with the office staff over e-mail prior to my first visit to develop a treatment plan that was workable and affordable using my insurance. Apparently, this plan was never run by Dr Nguyen for approval. During my visit Dr Nguyen said I needed to go to a Periodontist and not come back until s/he has cleared out several pockets in my gums. My dental health has been in decent shape (for a very old man) and I've been under the care of a very good Dentist for many decades. He retired several years ago so I've been looking for a new dentist that is in-network for my insurance. I was told that I would be getting "Periodontal Maintenance" treatments at Perfect Smiles so when I inquired why I was being sent elsewhere the Doctor blew a fuse. So excuse me for not knowing that "periodontal maintenance" is not actually performed by a Periodontist. You may totally love this place. Clearly some of my fellow Yelpsters do. While the staff was very nice (at least until I was politely told to go elsewhere) all that sweetness and sugar coating is a facade. I started seeing my previous dentist when we were both young. He was right out of OHSU dental college. I was hoping that he would outlive me but I never imagined that he would retire just because I did. If you don't have a regular dentist that you know and trust you may find locating one in this town to be quite a challenge. Dr Nguyen was crankier (at least towards me) than any Naval dentist ever was and those guys are legendary for being crabby.

I work from home and Hillside is right down the street from me. My previous dentist had retired, so I chose Hillside initially based on close proximity to home. The nice thing about the office is that they'll print out a plan for the work to be done on your teeth (if you have lots of issues like I do)--in my case, this is a long-term plan over several years in order to coordinate my dental insurance and what I pay out of pocket. Fixing teeth is not cheap, no matter where you go! But I find Dr. B to be practical. She prioritizes the work, so I know what I need to get taken care of more urgently. She is professional but also friendly and receptive and has a good sense of humor. I always know she has my best interests at heart. Also, she is VERY patient when she applies the numbing agent (shot)--slow and steady. You may not think that matters so much, but I had a dentist a long time ago who shot me up so quickly and often didn't leave a lot of time for the solution to fully numb and inevitably would have to give me a second shot. I thought that was "normal" until I went to my prior dentist and to Dr. B. A dentist should not rush you through the drilling process, and I know Dr. B cares about my comfort and doing things right. Also, Sam is one of her dental assistants and is most often the one to work with me. Sam's my buddy and has a great personality and sense of humor. She, too, is very thorough and cares about doing things right. I used to need nitrous oxide before drillings with my prior dentists, but I don't need it anymore because this team puts me at ease and I know Dr. B is going to be gentle and take her time and drill carefully. The front office has endured a number of changes over the past couple years, but I haven't had any negative experiences. Up until this past spring, I had the same dental hygienist all these years, but there have been changes there, too, and I understand there's a serious shortage of dental hygienists everywhere, so it takes time to get the right people in place. That said, I've never had a bad experience with my cleanings. Overall, Hillside Dental has a good team of quality professionals and I'm pretty happy with my experience over the years. If you live anywhere in the neighborhood (or work nearby), Hillside is a great place to go.

Upon being brought to the room, the dental hygienist and dentist were very nice. I came here for a filling and both of them were joking and having like conversations to whole time, which made it very relaxed. There was a small dog walking around the office, which was super cute and also allowed me to pet her while I was getting the operation done. Dr. Melika explain things really well and the fillings look great. I'm coming back for a cleaning and I'm thinking this is probably where I'll have my regular dentist appts going forward.

Dr. Barney and his assistant put me at ease, made me feel welcomed and 'at home' and any nervousness I had quickly melted away. I was happy too that he didn't try to 'upsell' me on procedures. And, also how honest he is - my crown procedure didn't require one of the steps that was listed in my estimate, but when he 'got in there' he saw it didn't need to be done after all. When I began to notice that it was affecting my jaw structure, I made an appointment for a consultation. This was about a year ago when mask mandates were loosening. Dr. Lampee's staff was cautious, clean and professional. The night before the procedure, I had serious anxiety about the drilling into the jawbone, however I did not splurge for the "sleep" option. It didn't matter, I honestly did not feel any true pain, just a little discomfort that you would feel from normal dental situations. Even afterwards, there was no pain or discomfort and everything healed well and on schedule. I went back a few months later for a cleaning and everything had healed properly. Go to Dr. Lampee! I was quite impressed with his training. . . and the office is very impressive with a great group of staff members. He had been Scot's dentist for several years and Scot needed extensive dental work but always delayed going. He had so many things on his plate. From the initial visits where they defined his plan, lots had changed due to the delay. It was more than a year. Things got worse. Today we are going back to find out the updated plan. Yesterday he had to pull some teeth and told us he would be working on a new plan. Luckily he can do oral surgery too. I'll report again after today.
