I hadn't been to the dentist in many years and was dreading what Dr Nguyen would find and how she would react, but she was so nice.

Came in happy, left disappointed. A dental assistant wearing a dark colored smock, with white stuff…read morespattered all over the front of it, obviously from other patients before me, was the first problem. I found this highly Disgusting! Secondly, anytime I tried to ask a question with this same person, I was abruptly interrupted half way every time I spoke. Regardless of how many attempts to finish the same question (did she just not hear me?), I was continually met with the same repetitive interruption, "you can ask Dr. Baskerville". Not showing a bit of concern of what I had to say, or even knowing what I was going to ask, pretty much made me feel uncomfortable enough to just want to leave. At this very same time, Dr. Baskerville walked in, asked me how i was doing, and to be honest, let him know exactly how I felt, and at that very moment made the decision to leave, hoping to avoid any further conflict. Why didn't I just overlook it all, and continue my appointment? In my mind, complaining about it only made matters worse, as the assistant was within ear shot the entire time, knowing she would be the one assisting my Dentist. Especially having had the previous experience of many times, having this same person continually jam the vacuum hose into my mouth, causing intermittent sharp pain, and deep enough to cause me to want to gag. A problem I've never had with other dental assistants. I never complained about it then, but enough is enough. During this time, I was told, "People have their good days and bad days". This is true, and that's ok, but highly recommend, if having a bad day, stay home, and don't position yourself around people who solely rely on positive reassurance and trust while in a dental chair.

Dr. Baskerville made me feel very comfortable. He seemed to really enjoy teaching, he spoke very…read morerespectfully and informative to his young assistant. I had a root canal today and actually dozed off quite a few times. I recommend 100%.

I have no idea what their care is like, but they don't seem interested in taking new patients. I…read morecalled and left two messages, waited a week for a call back and heard nothing. Pretty weird. Not a good sign. Onward to find a dental office that returns calls.

I've been meaning to write a review for Hillside for quite a while now. I've been a patient of Dr…read more Braxmeyer for (I think) 7-8 years. I work from home and Hillside is right down the street from me. My previous dentist had retired, so I chose Hillside initially based on close proximity to home. The nice thing about the office is that they'll print out a plan for the work to be done on your teeth (if you have lots of issues like I do)--in my case, this is a long-term plan over several years in order to coordinate my dental insurance and what I pay out of pocket. Fixing teeth is not cheap, no matter where you go! But I find Dr. B to be practical. She prioritizes the work, so I know what I need to get taken care of more urgently. She is professional but also friendly and receptive and has a good sense of humor. I always know she has my best interests at heart. Also, she is VERY patient when she applies the numbing agent (shot)--slow and steady. You may not think that matters so much, but I had a dentist a long time ago who shot me up so quickly and often didn't leave a lot of time for the solution to fully numb and inevitably would have to give me a second shot. I thought that was "normal" until I went to my prior dentist and to Dr. B. A dentist should not rush you through the drilling process, and I know Dr. B cares about my comfort and doing things right. Also, Sam is one of her dental assistants and is most often the one to work with me. Sam's my buddy and has a great personality and sense of humor. She, too, is very thorough and cares about doing things right. I used to need nitrous oxide before drillings with my prior dentists, but I don't need it anymore because this team puts me at ease and I know Dr. B is going to be gentle and take her time and drill carefully. The front office has endured a number of changes over the past couple years, but I haven't had any negative experiences. Up until this past spring, I had the same dental hygienist all these years, but there have been changes there, too, and I understand there's a serious shortage of dental hygienists everywhere, so it takes time to get the right people in place. That said, I've never had a bad experience with my cleanings. Overall, Hillside Dental has a good team of quality professionals and I'm pretty happy with my experience over the years. If you live anywhere in the neighborhood (or work nearby), Hillside is a great place to go.

Let me start by admitting something many people can relate to--I've spent most of my adult life…read morerunning very fast in the opposite direction of the dentist. It had been over a decade since my last visit, and the night before my appointment I was so nervous I practically broke into a sweat just thinking about cavities and drills. I even considered cancelling. But then I reminded myself: this is an investment in my health, and one hour of mild discomfort is worth years of feeling better. So I went. And guess what? No cavities! Yay! I must be doing something right. Go me. Honestly, the moment I walked through the door, all that anxiety melted away. I felt welcomed, seen, and completely at ease. Dr. Kim has this incredible way of making the whole experience feel calm, comfortable, and surprisingly relaxing. I never thought I'd say this, but I actually look forward to going to the dentist now. She genuinely cares about her patients and tailored everything to what I needed. If you're searching for a dentist who truly cares about your health, your comfort, and your smile, look no further. Dare I say it--after just two visits, she feels more like a friend than a dentist.

If you're looking for a new dentist in the Portland/beaverton area I highly recommend Dr.Kim and…read moreThe Smile Haus staff-- it's a small, non corporate dental office that blew me away from the first interaction. With a long standing aversion to dentists, Dr.Kim and staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and cared for. I felt like an individual rather than filler for quota. There were multiple instances in which this office went above and beyond for me: Dr.Kim reached out on many occasions to check in with how I was recovering from different procedures, in fact, she squeezed me in ASAP when I lost a temporary crown due to water picking it off, she even accommodated me when I was late or needing to reschedule.. I was listened to and met with compassion at every encounter-- this has been the best dental experience I have had. Please do yourself a favor and become a patient here, your dental health and peace of mind will thank you!
