CFU is getting out cable business. They encouraged us to do it by end of 2025. I am an 83 yr old, the only person in household who has any techie knowledge limited as it is. CFU would not answer any ? relating to how to do this and suggested hiring some one. I figured it out and changed us to YouTube TV. CFU today to find out what to do with the black cord remaining, Dakota called it a coaxial cord. He said "whatever I want to do with it". I didn't know if I should leave it exposed or cut it off, one is at least 20 feet long. This was the first time I was not enthralled by CFU customer service. I asked again "so it's ok to just cut it off". He said again (do what you want it yours). I guess a wanted him to give me a (yes cuttting it off to get rid of unsightly wires is fine, they are not live wires,) His words were succinct and condescending. Oddly prior conversations were very helpful over the 60 some years as a customer. CFU must have told him not to waste his time on past CFU cable customers. read more

Live TV is expensive compared to other streaming services. Internet service charges for 250Mbps, but routinely only get about 95Mbps. It's not a bad speed and its pretty reliable, just wish they'd call it 100Mbps service instead of exaggerating so much. When I talked to them about it, they said that was pretty typical. So why not correct the advertisement for your service then and be honest? They have a 1Gig service, too. I wonder if you really only get 300-400Mbps! read more

CFU is the only option for residents in Cedar Falls for electric, gas, water and garbage pick up. But they also offer other services such as yard waste pick up, cable, internet and home phone services. I've been a customer for 11 years and have good experiences with them. They have always been very reliable with their services and the staff has been friendly and helpful when I've needed to contact them or make changes to their services. The internet they provide is the best you can get in the area. I've tried mediacom and have not been super pleased. It's nice to be able to get all the utility services from one place and only have one bill. They also offer budget billing. The staff in the office has been exceptional when I've needed to pick up a cable box or drop one off when I've decided that I didn't want cable any longer. The one service they don't offer is recycling pick up but with all the recycling bins around the area it's easy to find a location to drop off. There are also other local companies that you can use to have recycling picked up for a small fee. Recently CFU needed to upgrade my in house cable box and the technician was very kind and offered to wear a mask and wear shoe protectors in my home. Very professional. read more

It's been three years, so I guess I can comment on the long-term service that CFU provides. And that is: AMAZING. We use CFU for our electric, water, and internet. We do not get cable through them. Our power has gone out maybe twice in the past two years? Each lasted so little time that I don't remember what I did. As far as I remember, internet has never been out. They keep you updated regularly with what they're doing, rate changes, and stuff like that. The past two years, they've sent me letters to notify me that rates were going *down*. They've just created a solar panel farm on the edge of town, and they're usually pretty active in the community. While their monthly bill payment newsletters occasionally feature information about new channels or new programs/specials I can sign up for, I've *never*, in the last three years, had any aggravating sales call, e-mail, or letter to "upgrade my service" or "sign up for a new package". We used to get those regularly under MediaCom. My only complaint is that they switched to these aggravating "Reusable" envelopes last year. The reusable envelopes in prior years were great, but something about these envelopes keeps making me accidentally send my bill payment to myself. But CFU has been great about removing the late fee when I call to admit my mistake. So again, phenomenal service. CFU is going to be one of the main things I miss when I end up moving. read more

I will give Cedar Falls Utilities zero stars. I have had service with Cedar Falls Utilities for a little over 6 months. I have always paid my bill online and on time. Because I'm human I made a mistake with my last online payment. I included my bank routing number twice instead of my routing number and account number which made my payment get returned. Cedar Falls Utilities charged me $15.00 for the return item which I totally understood. I'm sure they are also being charged from their bank as well. I called Cedar Falls Utilities to talk to them about my mistake. They did see that I had accidently entered my bank routing number twice instead of entering the bank routing number and account number. Of course I wanted to make my payment right away to get this payment taken care of including the extra $15.00 charge. I was unable to do that, because of my mistake I can not pay using my checking account. I guess because I entered in the incorrect numbers I'm now not a reliable bill payer. I'm very disappointed in the customer service at Cedar Falls Utilities. I will make sure to make my cash payments on time like I do all my other bills. Unfortunately we are unable to choose our Utility company. I'm guessing if we could they might be a little more understand. read more
