Scott showed up a couple days later, but had left his ladder in La Porte. Promised to come back in a day or two. After more than a week, my mom called again and was promised someone would come right out to take care of repair. That was early June.... Nothing since then...Very disappointed!

I recently purchased some glass tile for our backsplash. My husband has experience with installing…read moreceramic tile, but this was his first attempt at glass. There were only a few tiles that needed to be cut, to fit around the outlets, but the tiles that DID need cut kept cracking a few days after they were installed. So, he would take the cracked tile off, cut a new tile, re-install the tile, notice that it had cracked AGAIN, and repeated these steps over FIVE TIMES. We sought out advice from a few friends, but none of their suggestions worked. At this point, we just wanted the backsplash to be finished already, so I reached out to Cedar Valley Handyman and told them I would literally pay them to come install these last few tiles! The Handyman that I spoke with asked questions about what type of saw/blade we were using, what kind of adhesive we were using, etc. and was able to identify that we weren't using the correct adhesive for glass. The adhesive we were using was only for ceramic tile, and the pressure was causing the glass to crack. Mind you, my husband is a handyman himself, and even with years of experience this was new knowledge to him. We went out and purchased the adhesive they recommended, installed the last few tiles and as of a month later NONE OF THE NEW TILES HAVE CRACKED!! Of course I was impressed with their knowledge, but even more so I was EXTEREMELY impressed that instead of taking me up on my offer and getting paid to finish the job, they chose to offer FREE advice. If we ever run into more issues in the future that we can't resolve on our own, Cedar Valley Handyman will be the first company I call!

(Originally written for the BBB) Searching for people to work on one's home is a dicey business…read more When it was clear we needed a roof replacement for our Waterloo, Iowa house, like most people, I went to the Internet and did a (Google) search. My goal was to get at least three estimates for our house and optionally the non-attached garage. Several of the companies I contacted, using their "contact us" link, never responded. One company has an entirely different business name than the one listed in the search. Eventually, I got three estimates. Some people get all excited about the shingle brand and the length of the warranty and, realistically, many will never be living in the house by the time to so-called warranty expires. I was more concerned with price and reliability. Of my three estimates, Robert came in considerable lower--house and garage lower than just house alone in the other estimates. We asked him to do our roof, and since we were to be gone back East for several months, he worked us in when another customer asked for a delay. In the midst of our work, an unexpected thing happened. The found the the main/older part of the house has cedar shakes under asphalt shingle--something which should not have been done. Robert generously did not charge us for the additional labor for removal of the shake and the installation of the required sheeting (which we paid for naturally). His crew was meticulous in trying to minimize the mess and routinely cleaning the falling debris. They were quick, dedicated, and exhibited a high level of workmanship. It was a pleasure to have them do our roof and we would highly recommend them.

After having new roof and gutters installed, found a few issues after a short period of time. The…read morebathroom vent on the roof, was smashed closed. I realized this when water started dripping from my bathroom ceiling after the next winters thaw (due to humidity buildup in my attic). The next thing found was with the gutters. They were not installed with a proper angle along the run, such that the water would drain to the downspouts. Result is multiple sections of the gutter hold a large portion of water until they slowly leak form the joints. When looking closer at these, one of the corner joints has come apart significantly, allowing water to drain back to the wood on the house. Called the representative and still no one shows up to fix the issues. Based on my experience, if you want a problem free job done at your house with good support of follow-up, then look for a different company to do your work.
