I met with City Builders sales manager Chad Kinkade about a roofing project and provided my…read moreinsurance information. About a week later, he gave me an estimate and agreed to contact my claims representative and collect a shingle to begin the ITEL process. After multiple unanswered calls, texts, and voicemails, I finally reached him through the office. He acknowledged seeing my messages and promised to come by on July 24 or 25, but again failed to follow through or respond. No work was performed and I did not lose money, but I lost valuable time while my roof may be sustaining additional rain damage. I would have preferred a direct answer if he could not or did not want the job rather than repeated promises with no follow-through. I will not be working with City Builders.

We put in all new windows and doors. This included: (4) new Marvin windows, a front door, and a…read moreFrench door leading into the back yard. I'm picky, but didn't find anything wrong with the installation. It was done fast, clean, and didn't have to worry about anything. I worked with Erik Webber through the whole process and got exactly what we were looking for. The cost was reasonable even with choosing higher end components as the labor side of things was as low as my cheapest bid. I'm happy I chose this route as we had a couple issues with the Marvin customer service representative wanting to support their product, but Erik saw it through for us and handled the minor miscellaneous details even though the Marvin windows were our choice. When the Marvin service technician came over, Erik came over as well to ensure we got what we needed. The technician did a really good job and we are happy.

(Originally written for the BBB) Searching for people to work on one's home is a dicey business…read more When it was clear we needed a roof replacement for our Waterloo, Iowa house, like most people, I went to the Internet and did a (Google) search. My goal was to get at least three estimates for our house and optionally the non-attached garage. Several of the companies I contacted, using their "contact us" link, never responded. One company has an entirely different business name than the one listed in the search. Eventually, I got three estimates. Some people get all excited about the shingle brand and the length of the warranty and, realistically, many will never be living in the house by the time to so-called warranty expires. I was more concerned with price and reliability. Of my three estimates, Robert came in considerable lower--house and garage lower than just house alone in the other estimates. We asked him to do our roof, and since we were to be gone back East for several months, he worked us in when another customer asked for a delay. In the midst of our work, an unexpected thing happened. The found the the main/older part of the house has cedar shakes under asphalt shingle--something which should not have been done. Robert generously did not charge us for the additional labor for removal of the shake and the installation of the required sheeting (which we paid for naturally). His crew was meticulous in trying to minimize the mess and routinely cleaning the falling debris. They were quick, dedicated, and exhibited a high level of workmanship. It was a pleasure to have them do our roof and we would highly recommend them.

And I honestly can't say enough good things about Martinson Construction's management of the property - and the property itself. We occasionally had issues, but after reporting it to them, our issues were generally solved within 24 hours - or at least we received an update about what they had done to start fixing it (order a part, schedule a company, etc.). Rent actually went DOWN while we lived there, and prices were comparable to around the neighborhood. A week or two was usually given as head's up when they needed to enter the unit. Everyone who entered was always friendly. The apartment itself was beautiful with lots of natural light. It was modern and well-insolated, and our heating/cooling bills were pretty low each month. Generally around $70 or $80. Neighbors were quiet and friendly, and it was just a great neighborhood. Absolutely no complaints about it - and we were sad to move.
