I would steer clear of Pella Windows…read more My husband and I recently bought our first home and were looking to do some home improvements, as we are expecting our first baby in January, and the windows were high on our priority list. We made a post on a community FB page looking for recommendations on companies we should obtain quotes from. Pella was highly recommended, among other local contractors. We received quite a few quotes from local contractors, and finally had Pella come out as our final option. Jason K was our salesperson, and he was very thorough and pleasant to work with. He really sold us on these windows and ensured that Pella was a reputable company and that we would be pleased with the work done. Mind you, we were not looking for the cheapest bid on this project. We appreciated how highly Jason spoke of Pella and the time he took to explain everything to us. Ultimately, decided to go through with Pella (Pella's quote was around 1-2k higher than other companies). We received our quote around the end of January and signed contracts. Between the end of January and the end of May, there was no communication, other than a call from Jamie letting us know that our job was being cut from a 3-day job down to a 1-day job; I'm assuming because they overbooked themselves and needed to work around timelines they quoted other customers. On delivery day, I was told delivery was going to happen between 11:30-12:30 pm. I used my lunch break at work to ensure I was home to accept the delivery. They did not arrive until well over an hour after the scheduled time, ultimately causing me to be late back to work. One of the cranks on our casement windows was busted upon delivery, and the delivery driver demanded a check from me for the remaining payment due, which I did not have because I was unaware that they required a check. Again, due to no communication from Pella. Fast forward to install day.. I was told by Jamie that they would come to start the project around 7:30 am. The crew showed up around 9 am. So, ultimately, I'm already frustrated because to me, they were late. I talked with the crew members, and they said they rarely start projects before 9 am. It was also pouring down rain that morning with no end in sight. The crew called after about 10 minutes of being at my home and said that will have to reschedule but they had no idea how long we'd be pushed out for. I get it, rain is out of our control. But, someone could have called me that morning and rescheduled vs. the crew driving 1.5-2 hours to our home and calling it as soon as they arrived. In conversation with the crew while they were here, I was informed that they weren't going to get it done in one day, which was even more frustrating because I was told they would be able to and our project was being started on a Friday. When the job was rescheduled for the following Friday, I asked "Will this be done on the same day?" and I received a "Well, I guess we are gonna have to get it done in one day. The office workers don't know how long this kind of stuff actually takes to do." Which was not very reassuring and sounded like Pella needed to sit down and have a team meeting to sort out their communication issues. They were able to "squeeze us in" the following Friday. The crew arrives around 9 am and gets to work. I am gone most of the day at work and return around 3 pm. The crew wraps up around 4 pm, which was great considering they didn't think they were going to get it done. After the crew leaves, I check out the 9 newly installed windows (mix of casement and double-hung) and IMMEDIATELY realize they were not installed correctly. The double-hung windows would hardly open unless you put your entire body's worth of force underneath them. All of the casement windows were wobbly inside the window frame, and the locking mechanisms did not work. They were making a grinding sound when you tried to lock/unlock them. On top of improper installation, we were missing a screen for one of the windows, which we did not receive until almost two months after the install, and Pella damaged our brand new flooring throughout the main floor of our home and tried to fill it in with some sort of adhesive or filler and cover it up like it never happened. They also didn't use proper coverings when working on the interior of our home and scuffed our brand new paint in the dining room. They didn't install new flashing outside the home where they said they would. Some of the second-story windows looked warped from the outside, like they were not sitting in their frames properly. We were told the job could be accomplished in one-day and ultimately, Pella had to come back 3 additional times after the install to ensure things were repaired, causing both my husband and I to move around our work schedules. Also, during this whole drawn-out ordeal, there was little to no communication. I was told someone would call me to address the remaining amount we owed on this project afte

After the first install, we noticed right away that several windows had glass defects - it was a painful process to get them replaced. Then we noticed in Sept 2024 that another 5 have glass defects and Roberta Reams and Tom Carmody will not return calls or return emails. We are stuck with these defective windows in a beautiful great room. Avoid this company- they are also known as Iowa's Best Windows.

We purchased both windows and siding from Window Source of Central Iowa. The windows are functional…read morebut quality control is lacking at the factory. The installers that they hired did a crappy job! Tom Carmody had to personally come out and redo some of the work that they did! We had three windows replaced under warranty and that took forever to do so, or so it seemed! We also had siding installed by this company. That was a major, major, mistake! The siding workmen left a mess for us to clean up! After the weather cooled off, we discovered gaps where the siding was butted together. The ends of the siding are supposed to be overlapping. They overlapped the siding on most of the house! This is to allow for heating and cooling as the siding will expand and contract. This is normal. For some reason, the installers butted at least 6 pieces of siding and they shrink when cold leaving a 1/4" gap. Even in the summer, some gaps are visible because the installers cut the siding crooked. They also used "J" channel around the windows and doors and did a piss poor job of it! We gave the workmen with the siding company new outdoor lights to install on the front of the garage. They installed them and didn't realize (or didn't care) that the lights were crooked! One light was 6" higher than the other! So, Roberta (the office lady) said, after we complained, that they can't repair the siding because Window Source doesn't do electrical wiring. I immediately had a electrician move one of the light's electrical boxes to make both lights the same height, and install the lights. Tom Carmody told us that they would come and fix the gaps in the siding and repair the siding by the light. The siding was installed in September of 2022! Tom Carmody and Kent Reams were both here inspecting the siding and the crooked light on April 21st, 2023! I have called Roberta at the the Window Source office many (many) times and asked that Tom Carmody (or Kent Reams) return our calls. We have filed three complaints with the Better Business Bureau. The warranty windows were finally installed by Tom Carmody, one of which is crooked. So far, no return calls on the siding, no letters, no email, nothing! So we still have the gaps in the siding and a hole in the the front of the garage. The saga continues as we are now seeking legal advice! I would strongly advise anyone looking for a window or siding company to look elsewhere! Roberta gave us the company address in Reinbeck Iowa. They are actually in Cedar Falls!

He started by down grading the insurance adjuster and the company who gave us a quote before him. We thought that was very unprofessional. He seemed like he was trying to pressure us to make a decision right then. When he was droning on about financing my wife as well as myself told him we didn't need to discuss this at that time he continued on as if it didn't matter what we said. All we needed was an estimate at that time. He said he really couldn't without talking to us in person. When we cancelled the appointment about the estimate he all of sudden could get an estimate together and email one. This one person is keeping us away from knowing if this is a decent business or not. We are done.
