Nice course. But i dont get the club fee to get early tee times. My tax dollars pay to maintain that course as does most others. Well almost most others. How is it because you pay an extra fee you get choice of tee times. I feel like thats as wrong as two left shoes. Here's the good. AW tillinghast designed this on a great piece of property. The course itself is very nice and playable. Greens a little slow but that's ok. What's not ok is the snack bar. They had a lady working who spoke ZERO English . Not sure how management can think that's ok and to top that it's the only place in the world where they charge you to use a cooler. $5.50. Not buying a minimum amount or getting money back upon cooler return but just for the use. That's really low class to do that to customers read more

Okay was not impressed with the customer service. I did not have a tee time so was a walk up. I arrived about 9:30ish and he said no available spots until 1. I was like are you serious. So started to leave then decided to go back and hang out on the putting green to observe things. The course looked slow so I was like there has to be openings. I watched three sets of twosomes go out, three sets! They do have a driving range so decided to get a bucket of ball and go there with my son. However, I did go back inside and ask the cashier about what I saw. He said I was wrong all the groups that went out were threesomes. Which was incorrect because I just sat and watched the groups go off! There is no starter so this guy had no clue what was happening on the course. The sad part is they lost money and I know golf courses can use money. read more

This is one of the courses I learned to play on when I was thirteen! The City of Dallas owned and maintained courses on all sides of the City. You could buy a punch card for an incredibly low price of like $15 or twenty dollars that was good for one year!. This allowed you to play at any course,anytime. For a 13 year old just learning to play it was like winning the lottery. This course was and is in a part of Dallas with many neighborhoods dominated by people of color. I loved to come here when I was young and learning to play because everyone got along and enjoyed playing the game of golf. It didn't matter race creed or color. It was about playing golf together. I have fond memories of this course but haven't played it in 4o years. I'm concerned how young kids these days are shut out of learning golf because it's become so expensive. Hopefully there are programs lending access for those who need it read more

Play the course today it was OK but we had to play six players was very slow and frustrating. Went into the pro shop to let them know, and all they said was sorry I would not recommend this golf course, because they don't enforce rules and make play enjoyable for all people who pay their money. read more

Half the Course was under construction, grass high and cut grass clippings all over the course. Carts are nice and the food was great.

I've never been to this golf course before. I was looking forward to playing some golf on a what is suppose to be a nice day here in Texas. I was visiting the area. The man at the counter asked 2 different groups of 3 if they would mind if I joined their group. Both groups turned me down, to my face. One group said,"Naw, we're good." The other said,"you wouldn't like playing with us cause we are wild golfers". I won't revisit. Unfriendly golfers. read more

The only star was for the service. The greens were horrible. All of the greens were dirt.

I'd prob do 3.5 stars if I could but 4 will work. We played this course when it was under construction so can't blame them for that. The greens were middle of the fairway due to it. But the course as a whole was pretty beat up. It was a super hot summer so grass dies easy, but you'd hope a course could manage it a little better. The staff were very nice, the course conditions were atrocious considering all the money Dallas has invested in this historic gem. Would love to see the course in better condition especially the greens which were mostly hard pan and sand. Most of the areas outside the fairway were unmowed and wild. read more

Honestly, this is a hidden gem of a place. I'm hesitant to write this review because I don't want others to find it but I can't help but praise this course and its staff. Especially Tiana Jones, who has been my golf instructor for the past few weeks. She is gifted at simplifying the game so that you can make drastic improvements to it. Thanks to Tiana, I have gained a whole new level of excitement for the game of golf and look forward to playing many rounds at this exceptionally maintained golf course. Thanks also to the staff for always having a great attitude and a helpful spirit at the "19th hole". I highly recommend that you check out this perfectly located golf course near Downtown Dallas and enjoy everything this place has to offer... I am new to Dallas, but have played this and Dallas' other munis multiple times. All offer great value and solid, fun golf. Customer service at all courses is good. I carry a handicap index of 5.2 and have played all over the world, for 51 years. I highly recommend all courses, including Cedar Crest. read more

I played the golf course on a Friday morning. The course is in very good condition. The staff was courteous welcoming me for my first time visit. The carts are in new condition, the tee box - fairway -greens are in good condition. This is one of the best public courses that I have played in the area. I will definitely be back. read more

My family and I love this course. It's gorgeous and well kept. Great staff! Yes, it's in a older/unkept neighborhood. But their prices and course quality, combined, can't be matched in the DFW metroplex. Clubhouse was recently renovated (do not sleep on their food). They also have a decent pro shop. We've been playing here for 6 years, w/o any problems or incidents. Just go enjoy a game of golf with a beautiful view of Dallas skyline. Definitely worth the drive! read more

This is a great Dallas municipal golf course! It is an engaging layout with more hills than you would expect or think is possible in the flatness known as Dallas. Because of this, some of the holes have higher elevation greens than tee boxes so that you can't actually see the pin or the fairway where you're aiming at. Sometimes, you just have to trust the sign that says, "For best results, aim directly at the power pole [that is way off in the distance]" Beverage cart will typically stop by a few times while you're playing your round, which is nice. Also, the clubhouse is really really nice. I think it was redone/rebuilt recently, which explains it. One big negative: it's not in the nicest part of Dallas, and one time, while hitting my 2nd shot on the 14th hole, I heard a POP POP POP POP (8-10 times total pops). Yea........ read more

I played here last weekend and had a great time. I almost didn't go here; I had this place bookmarked on Yelp from a while back and only last weekend felt adventurous enough to try someplace new. But driving here, it's really sketchy. The surrounding area is so economically depressed, it's scary. I drove by two windowless places claiming they were "riverside" something-or-other, bars and pool halls I think. But the river was a 10 foot wide trickle strewn with trash on either side. Homes built in the 20s and 40s that were at some point the height of Americana - neighbors talking over white picket fences while kids rode bikes and jumped rope. No more. Houses that haven't been kept up in decades with crushed chain-link fences and nearly each one has some ugly mutt that looks like it's been cross-bred so many times it's less of a dog and more of a killing machine. Wow! So how was the golf, Steve? Well, after driving through the demilatirized zone, I was impressed by how nice the club house was. It's an impressive building, given the area. I paid something like $38 or $35 to walk 18 here on a Saturday. I got paired up with 3 guys within 1/2 an hour. Nice guys too. - The course itself is surrounded by a black iron fence, generally with trash on the other side. The course is in decent shape - even for winter. Greens were totally fine - tee boxes were in good shape. It's a wide open course, with some hills. A few killer par 5s, more par 3s than most 18 hole courses, and some interesting hills and valleys that will throw you for a loop. The guys I was with had been here before, and they gave me some tips on each hole. Some holes slope to the left or right, so you don't always want to hit it dead-straight or you'll roll to one side. I shot 100, which is typical. At the turn, you drive/walk by the clubhouse again, so if you need to use the facilities or get a beer (Same thing?) it's convenient. I don't know if I'd play here again. I would if someone asked me too but I don't think I'll go out of my way again. I might play it once summer hits to see how it is on actual live grass (it's all brown now - played Jan 31). But it's a good course - it's just sad that it's in this neighborhood I don't want to have to drive through again! read more

I'm not a BIG golfer or anything, but this is the course I go to since it's closest to me (I live in uptown) and it's about a 10 minute drive. It's a clean course, well kept from what I can tell, has a driving range, and is never TOO crowded but like I said, I don't play THAT much. I got this stamp card with like 12 large buckets for the driving range for $40 (GREAT deal) and I go and hit balls on their range all the time. It's quiet, not many people, and just a good place to go for cheap in the Dallas area near uptown. I've played the course a handful of times with friends and never experienced anything bad. The staff probably isn't as attentive as it could be, but I haven't been there when it's PACKED so I really don't know. Apparently, the 1927 PGA Championship was held here or something like that. The only con to the place is you do drive through the ghetto to get there. I take Martin Luther King and the drive isn't the prettiest. Then, you get to the course and it's like whoa what's this doing here? Ha Great place for golfing though. Has a pro shop that sells equipment, supplies, food, and drinks. read more

I play this as my home course because it is within a 10 minute drive from North Oak Cliff and if you play Monday thru Friday it feels like a private course! MUCH less crowded than Stevens Park! This is the oldest course in Dallas and the recent upgrade is pretty nice. It is wide open and well manicured. The clubhouse is descent, but the food is average at best. The only reason I give this 4 stars is due to it's location, but then again if it were located north of I-30 - it would be crowded and not nearly the bargain it is! The driving range is nice, good short game area and nice practice greens. Their large bucket is $8. Not a bargain, but not too bad. Staff is friendly and the crowd pleasant. I've never experienced a problem except on weekends when play can slow on Saturdays. Mon-Thursday this is a great course to walk! read more

Had a rain check that expired one day before my tee time and was told it was invalid because it was a City of Dallas law. I called the day before to confirm it would be no issue and was told it would be fine. So much for southern hospitality. I will be happy to take my couple rounds a month elsewhere. generally play at Tennison, but for a change of scenery my brother-in-law and I decided to play Cedar Crest today. IT is a well designed course, though not very long. I hit a 3 wood off most of the tees (playing from the golds, what would be blues elsewhere) and had no trouble shooting for the greens in regulation. The holes are very unique and offer some challenges, though the course is very forgiving. Water only comes into play on 4 or 5 holes and drives that wind up off the fairway are usually playable. Though it was a brutally hot day, the course was in exceptional condition. It's a great municipal course for a very reasonable price. read more
