Alonzo delivered an Awsome pool, from our first meeting until the end of the project his team worked hard to complete the pool in six weeks, pretty much unheard of in the pool industry. The craftsmanship was impeccable, they know what their doing, no corners were cut, and no other pool company I talked too could even come close to beating their price. Do not do business with Cecil Gunite or Aquos Pools. Multiple missed appointments, poor or no follow through on appointments or job commitments. Sean will tell you want you want to hear then ghost you when It's time delivery said commitment. They unnecessarily destroyed yard, left a mess and then when called out about it, lied. BEWARE! Very unprofessional. No customer service. I'm very disappointed. Paid the full amount when the job was "completed" and I did not had a chance to check how is finished. Now my outer side of the exposed pool wall is off by 2"! I called George (superintendent) multiple times and communicated via text messages but he did not want to come back to repair the mistake. Business license 403451. Just this year 2 public citations from the Ca state Licensing Board. I did not choose this company but they were sent out by my pool contractor. The crew that did the excavation was great. The main guy explained to me the consequences of going below the water table while digging. They removed old concrete and did a neat job. The gunite crew did an okay job. One of the guys was smoking in the pool while they were making the shell which was unprofessional in my opinion but nothing I was too upset about. When the decking came around it was horrible. I had been pushed back over 2 weeks for my concrete. When they came Alonzo (responsible party of company) was rushing me to tell him what I wanted done as he didn't have the correct plans. (Contractor partly at fault for this) Now the crew is standing there ready to start working so I felt totally rushed. I tell him what I wanted done and then he draws up the contract for the additional concrete I needed around the pool. Unfortunately I trusted him and signed the contract before verifying his measurements. I had the contractor come out and they agreed it was about 140 square ft off. The price difference was over $1000. I called and asked Alonzo to come out and remeasure as this may have been a simple mistake on his part... since there was a rush that morning. He refused! He said he would order the 140 less and if it was not enough what did I want him to do. After going back and forth with the contractor and this company they said the 140 square ft would be in a "footing" by the wall portion of the pool. The contractor said it would be a trench 18 inches down across the pool. So I gave them the benefit of the doubt that it would make up 140 sq ft. They said they would be digging this the same day as they pour. On that day they dug a small trench with the tip of the shovel. Maybe about 3-5 inches deep. Also unleveling all the work they had done previously. This resulted in every single concrete coping facing my pool having a crack in the middle. Also I only wanted certain parts of the patio broom finish and salt finish. While getting my estimate from the contractor (before the pool was built) I was told there was a $1 difference in price for these finishes. Alonso said no..even after I also verified with multiple other concrete companies. While they poured they went over the forms and cemented in my fence. I have an ugly fence so I was more frustrated than anything but if it was new I would have been very upset. I asked the contractor to have them remove it and I also went out and asked them while they were prepping and they still did not remove it. They only took the blocks I myself had hammered off. The salt finish is all uneven. Some spots have more divots and some have none. There was a shoe print and scratches when they left. They used wood boards to smash the salt down by slamming them on the freshly poured concrete. They left piles of salt on the broom finish borders. Which will probably blend in but was just lazy and sloppy. They added mud after pouring to form the front of the copings and there are parts where they didn't blend it in all the way. There are so many other little things that I could mention that in themselves are minor but with so many makes the job they did awful. The workmanship and effort of the deck crew was horrible. After the decking experience I was no longer excited about my new pool. I would not recommend the decking crew to anyone. I am now filing a complaint with the licensing board. read more

After reading the reviews on Cecil Gunite. I was concerned and hesitant to hire them for several reasons. First of all, let me clarify that I'm a home owner building my own pool, thus the options can be limited when hiring a contractor to do the work. Especially because I don't have the in-depth knowledge or even know the proper language that is used in this industry. A long story short, I needed to do my gunite and every other company were three weeks out or even an entire month. The weather forecast was not in my favor because it was supposed to rain and I already had dirt sliding a couple of times. The rain was only going to make it worst and in the end, more expensive. I ended up talking to Alonzo Rodriguez, the owner of the company. He came to my house to take measurements and gave me an estimate over the phone, and then send the quote via email. I mentioned to Alonzo that the fact that they have one bad review and a couple of filed complaints did not really help. However, they were the only available company to the work the following day. Don't take me wrong, I was highly concerned why he was available when everyone else was three weeks out. Alonzo explained that they have three crews, thus have the human power and more availability than everyone else. Once again, I thought....red flag....concerned!! However, I had checked with the city inspectors regarding the possibility of someone working with gunite and really doing things incorrectly. The city inspector mentioned that is highly unlikely that this happens because gunite does not use aggregates, making it very difficult to screw things up. I don't know what this means, but coming from the city inspector, I thought, let's give them a try. Bottom line, I ended up hiring this company. Now that everything is set and done. I am very happy I did. Alonzo is a young guy with a lot of experience. His crew was very professional. They covered up my fence, walls, etc. they showed up very early in the morning, approximately 7:15AM, prep the swimming pool and the area and started working right away. They also asked me to move my car out of my driveway because their huge trucks (3 of them) were going to be blocking me for a few hours. I moved all of my cars out of the way, and they started working asap. Alonzo answered all of my questions, gave me excellent tips, and a few recommendations. I asked him again about that one bad review. As everything in this world, there are always two sides to any story. I don't know how things happened and I honestly do not care at this time. Alonzo seem concerned about what to do or how to delete this review. I told him he cannot do that. But, he could answer and provide his side of the story to that review. If anyone reading this review has concerns, I am just sharing my positive experience and everything worked out very well. My experience with Cecil Gunite was awesome, they did an excellent job, and his crew were very nice and respectful. I think they were about 10 of them all together. Alonso (owner) is a first class jerk. He is wishy washy, avoidant, and doesn't make himself available to customers unless he's looking to get paid. His gunite job is horrible and water is seeping through the plumbing sticking through the gunite. He waited until after 9pm the night before he was supposed to come out to send his contract, which half of it was barely legible because it was a 10th generation photocopy of a document all cock eyed on the page...totally unprofessional. Then the contract had the wrong amounts listed on it. Late at night, the night before he's supposed to come do the work, he asks me with an attitude if I want them there or not in the morning...as if I am being difficult. What a jerk! He barely responded to my questions before and during the project. Only once he was owed money did he make sure to send someone...though of course he never told me he was sending anyone on Saturday morning to collect payment. Lucky for him I happened to still be home. Do yourself a huge favor and DO NOT use this horrible service. Typical deceptive dishonest contractor. Why are you all such jerks? read more

So my wife and I were supposed to meet with Alonso on Saturday morning, but we both weren't able to meet with Alonso at that time. Alonso asked when both of us would be available for him to take a look at our pool that was going to have the decking poured before they set the forms. He agreed to meeting us at 7 on Monday night and though it is in the evening he said that he would meet with us because that is the time that was convenient for us. This is how customer service should be, putting the customer first. He was having mechanical troubles with his truck so he was a few minutes late. Though he was all greasy from fixing his truck when he showed up he was extremely pleasant and very friendly. My wife and I didn't feel rushed at all and he answered all our questions. At 7 on a Monday night after his truck had mechanical problems he could have easily cancelled or been short with us, but he was anything but that. I will defiantly be hiring Cecile to do my concrete work in the future. A company that puts their customers first! read more
