Pit stop to admire the beautiful scenery!
Jeanie L.

STAYING FIT IN CALIFORNIA! The beauty of living in the Bay Area is that our "hibernation" period exists for only a brief moment in any year. During this time, we find ourselves eating and sleeping more, and of course with that, comes a few extra pounds needed to be shed. With the start of Daylight Savings Time, which is one of the indicators that Spring is just around the corner, it is a reminder for us to get back into shape. What better time than in the Spring, a time of renewal and growth; besides, the weather is absolutely gorgeous! Any form of exercise is great, however, if you enjoy cycling, specifically road biking, Cañada Road Bicycle Sundays is a perfect choice. Slightly over 5 miles roundtrip, from the stretch of Cañada Road between Edgewood Road and Highway 92 and back, this loop provides a wonderful beginner to intermediate ride. Besides the slightly rolling hills alongside the picturesque scenery, this AMAZING ride is closed to all vehicle traffic from 9:00am-3:00pm, every Sunday, except for Winter Sunday Holidays and inclement weather. Ride with confidence and without the fear of sharing the road with other motorists. With this sense of freedom, you can now envision yourself as Lance Armstrong, Greg LeMond or Miguel Indurain, as you pedal onward to your goal...you against yourself. Since this road is not completely devoid of traffic, be sure to watch for young children on bikes and other cyclists. Riders here are quite considerate as you'll hear the occasional, "On your left," as they pass. When starting from Edgewood Road, one will find 2 slight climbs, both less than a mile each. The turnaround point is at Highway 92, where one will find vehicles parked to signify the road closure. The return ride to Edgewood is slightly easier. Although there are less cyclists on the road in the afternoon hours, the wind can pick up slightly. Traveling downward on the return route, we often find ourselves riding between 25-28 miles per hour. My husband calls this, "Free speed!" It feels invigorating, but with the wind and speed, be sure to hold onto your handlebars! No time for drinking water or adjusting your gear here! If inclined, there are restrooms at the Pulgas Water Temple. One can even visit Filoli Gardens as it is along this route as well. We love this gem of a loop! We often ride 5 loops, totaling 30 miles. As this ride becomes easier, try to challenge yourself by decreasing your times. You'll eventually want to challenge yourself even more, by migrating to other locations with steeper hills (with motorists), but until then, this is a great place to begin!

Great road for biking. You can also find parking near the intersection of 92 and 280 on Cañada Road. The official Sunday bike ride is halted during covid-19. However the single bike lane is obviously still open. There's also a small trail next to the parking area. See photos.

Awesome for a bike ride or run. Great views. Challenging but not too difficult. So so so cool that the road closes for some Sunday fun!

I love this totally easy and scenic ride. The road is super smooth and having a portion of it closed only for bicyclists on Sundays rocks.

Lots of rolling hills, straightaways and if you want to tackle a big climb, take King's mountain road near Woodside.

The store staff responded quickly and handled everything in a very professional and calm manner. Thanks to their support, we were able to find my child safely. I'm writing this review to shout out Froy in the bike department!!! He is the MVP! My derailleur was whack and he fixed it so quickly. It gets quite busy at the bike department (esp in the summer with kids wanting to get out with new bikes!). Froy also took the time to teach me the mechanics of the bike that I'll never forget since I want to try to maintain my bike myself. I highly recommend becoming a REI member if you aren't already one! Amazing perks such as discounts all the time and you get a return warranty up to 1 year instead of the 90 days. I also like their credit card which gives you 5% back! If you already know you're a regular customer for REI, why not! You'll also get higher cash back on full priced items too. Also just FYI they do not supply bags at check out! So bring your own bag to haul away your purchases!

One of my chain rings came loose and, because I didn't have tools, my one window for a ride was closing quickly. I stopped by to see if there were anything they could do for me and was ready to pay for the service. Reason being about 5 years ago they did a great job upgrading and maintaining my retired Scott Addict. I came into the store with a blank slate only knowing I wanted the Pinarello Grevil as my frame, and that I wanted to recycle the groupset from my Scott to save on cost. Chris helped me from the beginning to the end with all of my concerns, such as any compatibility issues, challenges with sourcing parts, and also very helpful upgrades I wanted to consider with full transparency and all the important details. Thanks again Chris for your help and patience with me and updating me throughout the process. Incredible communication, customer service, and overall professionalism. I've been riding this indoors on the Wahoo Kickr Core and since the wheels arrived, I look forward to putting many miles on it. Hey, I'll most likely be back next year to upgrade my groupset. Cheers!

I've been a long fan of another cycling shop in Burlingame and haven't shopped here very often…read more When we purchased my son's last bike, they were just opening the Linda Mar location and didn't have an inventory to explore. They've settled in nicely and now have a nice inventory. Apparently, they've been a staple in Santa Cruz for some time. Anyway...about my experience yesterday. I stopped in on my way to my old favorite store, just to see if they had what I needed. I have already checked "In-Stock" inventory at the other store and knew they had the Park Tools Chain Tool that I needed. I was surprised that they not only had the model the other store had, they had two other models. One of higher quality and one of lesser (a starter "lite" version of a chain tool). I still went with the one I was originally looking at, but it was nice to see the options. I didn't expect to have that much of a choice. When I stopped in, there was only one employee working, but it didn't feel that way. He was helping a gentleman at the maintenance counter, a lady choosing a bike for her son and me all at the same time...and doing it well. I was even amazed that when I asked if they had chain tension clip (a small hooking clip that holds the chain where you need it while working with unconnected links). He simply said, "We usually make them out of old spokes...give me a minute and I'll make you one." It took two, but it was the perfect length and he made it for me for free. What a deal!!! While I don't expect them to have everything I will ever need...I usually have very specific needs for cycling gear, components and bikes, I will always check them first going forward!!!

I went back to the bike shop and this time the replaced the cassette, total charge of $330. However, the issue persisted immediately after my first ride I returned the bike for a follow-up repair (third time is a charm I thought ), they kept it for three weeks. After that long wait, the manager simply told me they couldn't identify or fix the problem. Despite charging me a significant amount for a repair that didn't work, they took zero responsibility, offered no refund, and abruptly told me to take the bike and leave. I remained respectful and calm throughout, but the lack of technical knowledge and poor customer service was shocking. As an avid rider who has visited many shops, I've never experienced such a lack of professionalism. Save your time and money--take your bike elsewhere.
