Awesome climbing gym! I try out a bunch of climbing gyms when I travel, and this is definitely one…read moreof the best I've been to (definitely NOT a questionable DIY situation, which I've seen a lot of). This gym has two floors of climbing with shorter belay/free climb and bouldering on the bottom floor and extra tall belay/free climb on the second floor. There's a variety of different difficulty levels which makes this place great for beginners and more advanced climbers alike, with plenty of auto-belays for the shy solo climber. They have leagues and classes for adults and children, so it's also friendly for all ages. In addition to climbing, they also have a yoga studio, weight room, and various fitness classes available, so you could definitely make this place your primary gym, if you like. I live about an hour away, so I haven't tried them (I usually spend my time here climbing). But the facilities look pretty nice! They do sell some merch including chalk bags and apparel, but not climbing shoes. I'd recommend borrowing shoes for your first trip (and bring an extra pair of socks to change into before you put your shoes back on!) so you can figure out your size and then order something comparable online. Because unfortunately, there isn't a place in the broader CNY area that sells climbing shoes that I'm aware of. The staff are very friendly and helpful whether it's the instructors for the belaying classes or the general front desk staff. Been going here off an on for a couple years (live a bit too far away to be a regular member) and I love it! Wish they'd open one in Binghamton.

This place has charmed its way into my heart. Before coming to RIT, I mainly top roped off and on…read morefor about a year with my bf - quite a feat for someone terrified of heights. One of the only reasons I kept going was because I was halfway decent at it. That being said, I'd only ever been to one gym (Planet Granite, San Francisco) and a small handful of outdoor spots. The first time I walked in I was dismayed that only the bouldering section was open and that that the majority of the climbs were on plywood. Not having extensive experience, I was certain that my shoes wouldn't be able to grip and that I'd slip and fall to my doom. During this first time, I also witnessed a girl fall and sprain her ankle badly enough that the school medics had to be called. I made a mental note about how professionally and quickly the gym handled the situation should I ever be so unlucky. After climbing nearly twice a week since January, I love this gym. I love how it has no heat (nice and empty when it's only 15 degrees outside!) and that I can't find the difficulty labels for most of the problems (who doesn't love a challenge?). A lot of the routes feel reachy to me, but that's probably a function of me being short and climbing weird. It doesn't smell as crazy as other gyms but we'll see once it starts warming up. The absolute best part is that it's only $20 a quarter for students. Can't beat that price! I'm looking forward when to when they open up the second floor - anyone need a belay partner? :D

Cool bouldering place. Very simple place but serves its purpose: bouldering. Lots of bouldering…read moreopportunities/levels there!
