Here's why: Erika, the owner, takes the time to learn about each prospective rider before you come so she can pair you with the perfect horse. So be sure and take the time to let them know in the online questionnaire how you are with horses and riding. I'm a confident rider and got a great horse for me where my husband isn't as confident rider and he was paired with a sweet easy going horse, Faye. Actually all the horses are sweet and wonderful. We did a one hour trail ride. The trail was fun - not too challenging and we even got to stop by a beautiful creek so the horses could take a drink. It's absolutely magical & no better way to see the beauty of this region. Now the horses: They are all beautiful, very healthy and thus happy. You can get to know them on the Painted Bar Stables website! Many are rescued and have been revitalized by being in this wonderful place. I can't wait to return.

She had a wealth of knowledge and several degrees in horses related fields. We went on a one hour trail ride and now knowing what I know, I would definitely have upgraded to the 1.5-hour trail ride. It was such a fun experience! I hadn't been on a horse in years and had only ridden a horse maybe three times in my life, so you don't have to be a knowledgeable rider by any means. The horses were so gentle and already knew the route they were taking. If I lived closer, I would have loved to sign up for classes here. I highly recommend this is a great activity to anyone traveling this way. We loved it.

I think Southern Tier Stables is providing a wonderful service to their community through their…read moregiving therapy to folks who have never had an opportunity to ride a horse and discover not only a activity they never realized could be possible for them, due to being physically impaired. Those people with other types of disabilities can gain confidence and experience success as well. Lastly, all will gain a sense of peace riding on a trail ride enjoying the outdoors. I also went to a rodeo there recently and had such a great time ! It was exciting watching the riders on the bulls and the barrel races were amazing. Those riders have some serious riding skills ! Food and beverages were an added pleasure. I'D advise everyone to check out their site and see what's going on at the Stables and see if there's an event or evening or morning trail ride you might enjoy trying!

On my first visit I was greeted by George at the door. George is the stable dog who is always paying attention to who comes in and out the front door. And the horses are well taken care of and many of them rescues. Shout out to Bailey, Cute Little Pony, and a new arrival named Dotty. Once I had completed my degree at Cornell…read moreUniversity, and it was time to move on to a career, I sold my mare, and went to work. 40 years later, I was enrolled in phased retirement from Cornell, and decided to investigate the options available to start riding again, and rekindle my original passion. I selected If Only Farm, because of the high standard of professionalism exhibited by the owner Sue Lowe, who had shown with national success for many years, as had her teaching and training staff. I must admit, I got off to a rocky start, but Sue assured me, that with time and persistence, and being diligent about doing exercises that would help me strengthen the muscle groups I would need to ride successfully again, that I would be able to regain the skills I had not used in decades. She can be a demanding teacher, expecting only the best from her students, and always encouraging them to reach for the next step. 1 1/2 years later, I am now close to where I was at age 22, and am loving every day that I spend riding at her facility. The barn staff, and trainers, are all very open and enjoy helping us newbies find our way around, and learn new skills associated with horse health care, using specialized tack, and what condition each of the lesson horses is in on the days I come to ride, and help me select which horse would be best for my lesson that day. An all around close knit family atmosphere with lots of experienced staff to gain knowledge from, wonderful teachers in both dressage and hunt seat, and all have exhibit a high degree of professionalism.
