No matter what your tastes or interests are you'll find something to admire when you go to Cavallo Point in Sausalito. For foodies, you can't beat Murray's Circle for creative Bay Area food. For cocktail lovers, Farley Bar is a cozy spot to throw back signature cocktails among a very friendly bar staff (props to Brian!). For those that want to calm the body and mind, a massage followed by a dip in the heated meditation pool at the Healing Arts Center will melt your stress away. For those that want to work up a sweat, the grounds sit on a national park, where you're surrounded by fantastic hikes. And for those that just want to chill, the rooms are quiet and homey with great views of the bridge and offer room service and big screen HDTVs. Our only regret in going to Cavallo Point? We didn't go sooner. read more

What an absolutely wonderful place. I cannot say enough about it. We had a king suite in the historical part of the property. The suite was fabulous keeping the original architecture theme of the time. The bathroom was fabulous with both a shower and king-size keep tub. The view of the city and Golden Gate Bridge was more than words can say. I have read reviews of excessive noise. That was totally not the case as we had our windows open and the weather was exceptionally warm. The food at Farley Bar and Murray Circle was exceptional. We enjoyed both places. The service was outstanding, whether it be the valet, front desk, wait staff etc. Not a complaint. Everyone needs to experience this place as I am looking forward to returning. read more

I was really looking forward to staying here especially after seeing the advertisements in some luxury magazines. As a local resident, I am quite spoiled as I've spent lots of time in and around Golden Gate Bridge and the surrounding park region, so I love the location. I was really looking forward to being wowed! Unfortunately, the refurbished Officer's Quarters are nice but not what I was looking for in luxury. I'd recommend seeing the rooms first and then making a decision. While I have nothing negative to say about this place, and there is a lot of good; it has to fit the individual taste of the consumer. read more

Words can't begin to describe the awesomeness of the Cavallo SPA (not the restaurant at the lodge). I'm pretty frugal but even the price tag of this spa doesn't make me knock down the rating, because you leave the place feeling like it was worth every hard-earned penny. (How often can you say that?!) I've been there twice, had excellent massages both times (discounted on weekdays), and while there I couldn't stop thinking about when I could go again. On a weekday, there's no one there except you, your buddy, the plushest amenities and complete serenity. read more

My husband and I celebrated our 16 year anniversary at Cavallo Point last weekend. It really is a lovely place and we enjoyed our historic room #102. The first night we participated in date night at the cooking school. I would highly recommend this! I was worried my husband wouldn't enjoy this and I was wrong. We were paired with another young couple and a sous chef. Lots of fun and delicious food! The guest relations manager, Josh Gordon, sent wine and chocolate for my bday (it was also my bday). He was very attentive. On the 2nd day of our stay there was a malfunction with our room lock. Todd, the head of security, was very professional and took care of our problem quickly. Josh Gordon called to apologize for the inconvenience and sent another bottle of wine and chocolate. :) On Sunday night we enjoyed a 7 course tasting menu with a wine pairing at Murray Circle. This is the second time my husband and I have done this. It is expensive but it's a fun alternative to the regular dinner. We loved the menu and the wine pairings. Elizabeth at Farley's Bar is a wonderful waitress. Very attentive and quick. And finally, Brian, the concierge at Cavallo Point, is really phenomenal! This is the first time I've ever called on the help of a concierge and he didn't disappoint. He recommend Venticello in Nob Hill for dinner and even made the reservations. I will definitely call on him again. read more

Don't ever buy a gift card with them. The gift cards do not work and they magically short the value on them or somehow "lose" the credit to them. That aside, there is probably not a more idyllic or scenic setting in perhaps all the bay area, so it's worth putting up with some lack of organization. The food is decent, though not a show-stopper. read more

We loved this place the first time we stayed there, so decided to return late last year. The rooms are nice, the staff is courteous, the food is great, and last but not the least, the views are breathtaking. The spa service was great too. Do enquire about their deals before booking. Just wish it didn't pinch the pocket so much! :) read more

Unbelieveable place! Everything was top-notch -- food, room, service. When can i go again?

Super nice location and great staff. Everyone very friendly. A great place for romance

This place is the best!! My wife and i had received a free night and we turned it into two free nights at cavallo point, I loved it we had a great time and excellent massages, the most romantic dinner next to the fireplace on a bench seat, We always bring our dogs who have a great time too. big thumbs up! this place is a gem that deserves much more credit than it receives. Such yummy and amazing food! The waiters and staff are super nice and ready to answer any questions. The setting is also great and very inviting. read more

Love the historical significance of this hotel and land. The restaurant and bar are very tasteful with great food and wine selection. May be the best hotel to experience in the Bay Area. read more

We loved our room and the staff was friendly. Because I had requested a king size bed and none were available, a lovely man named Timothy, provided a significant room credit. Only 4 stars because the food was 2 stars only. I mean, who serves crab cakes with lime and not lemon? Lime does not work with crab.We only had room service and both orders were room temperature and not hot. I will definitely stay here again but may use Uber eats. read more

We only stayed one night but we were very impressed with our room and the service. Room was large and modern. Great views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Called the front desk for some ice and within 10 minutes it was delivered by a young man, I believe Ricky was his name. Super friendly employee. Overall great experience. read more

I just held my company holiday party at Cavallo Point. Beautiful setting and great remodel of an historic site. Only trouble was, they shorted us on tables and food and many of us got nibbles to eat on a full buffet menu. I have been there many times before for dinner, bar nibbles, banquet lunches and now this holiday party for a large group. I was so disappointed. I want to use this place again, because I am a true believer in historic renovations, but even the valet parking was a letdown. I rolled up in the rain, and they said the lot was full, but to follow the signs to self parking. Why would they make me walk in the rain for self parking when they had a half dozen parking attendants standing around? I parked in a hotel lot and was guided by an attendant to the space, but it was no fun for my date to walk back down hill thru the rain. Disappointed in Marin read more

We spent our anniversary night there, and loved it! The bath, the spa, the room, murray circle restaurant. The modern suites are huge with a center gas fireplace, radiant floors, private decks and a soaking tub. This is the place for romantic getaways read more

What an interesting idea - put a resort, cooking school, spa, convention center, restaurant, great bar all in the GGNRA with views of the GGB. Saw a really interesting photo exhibition by Imogen Cunningham in the dining room, and several rooms with excellent photography. Photography is the focus here and it compliments the spaces and the rooms. Farley Bar is a great place to have a drink and apps, there is also a front porch available for the same if the weather is decent (not always the case). read more

We will definitely go back! Stayed in the contemporary lodging, in a king suite with a view - fantastic view of GG bridge. Very spacious, well appointed. We had cocktails at Farley Bar on the deck, under the heat lamps, looking at the surroundings including the bridge. Then we had dinner at Murray Circle - very good, well deserving Michelin star. We ordered breakfast to theroom in the morning. Service was fantastic throughout the lodge, from valet & check-in, to cocktail/dinner/room service servers. Location of facility is perfect, just over the bridge from San Francisco, and just down the road from the center of Sausalito. Would like to go back, stay in the historic lodging, and check out the spa. read more

This is the perfect weekend or mid-week getaway for the Bay area couple. You feel like you're sitting in a secret little village right outside of the city, enjoying great food and fantastic views of the golden gate bridge. The spa facilities were fantastic, meditation pool heated to 105 degrees at all times perfect for relaxing in while enjoying the scenery and staying warm in the San Francisco weather. They accommodate you with robes, flip flops and a locker to keep all belongings, anything you could possibly need they provide you with down to the hair tie. I stayed in the historic rooms and it really felt like we were staying in our own apartment, anything you could ask for in a hotel room and still a historic feel (even with flat screens) I'll be going back!! read more

Yum! I think everyone pretty much agrees on that one. What I especially love about this place is that the interior, is perfectly situated to take advantage of sunny days and the more typical bay fog alike. And the outside terrace can't be beat. We've gone here for special occasions, but the most memorable one was a casual lunch on the terrace, after going to the Discovery Museum, where our waiter (I think he mentioned he was in training) was SO nice and SO gracious about our two small children. And frankly, I think I can say something positive and distinctive about the staff every time we have gone. Simply top notch service. I have been a huge fan ever since. read more

I went here for breakfast with some friends and instantly fell in love with the place. Unmatched view, excellent food, great service!!! The pastry basket rocked. This is place is one reason why living in the Bay area is close to nirvana! read more

Instead of the usual hectic holiday madness, my husband and I stayed at Cavallo over Christmas and were able to unwind and rejuvenate. The included spa access allowed us to warm up at the outdoor heated pool before we headed to the bar for a drink at Cavallo's outside heated patio where we had an amazing twilight view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Every employee we encountered were friendly and helpful and our suite was large yet cozy and also had a great view of the Bay. We can't wait to go back and would highly recommend Cavallo for a nice retreat whether you're a local or traveling to the San Francisco area for the first time. read more

We had a dream wedding at Cavallo Point and can't say enough good things about the experience. Everyone we worked with was kind, professional, and accommodating and helped to make our wedding more special, fun, and beautiful than we ever could have imagined. Everyone raved about the service and the food was truly incredible. We are thrilled that we chose to have our wedding at Cavallo Point! read more

This review is specific toward the restaurant, but does seem to address some comments that others have made. We were with a very large group, young families with small children, as well as grandparents and a great grandmother. Needless to say, traveling with small children can be a chore and while they did their best they were small children, i.e. a bit rowdy, running back-and-forth to the bathroom although nobody ran into any of the waitstaff and their parents tracked them very well. Our waiter, Yusef, was a complete gem. He got the food out really fast for the kids and was nothing but sweet with them all as well as with their parents. Stefan the manager was also extremely professional and very accommodating. We did have a large and rather daunting group but we came to dinner very early in the hopes to make sure the room was quiet for later diners. I must say that some of the dining room staff were very chilly, and I have noted similar comments about some Cavallo Point staff. But if you come here, and eat in their very fine restaurant, ask for Yusuf! Cannot go wrong. read more

This place is fantastic for relaxing! Cant wait to go back for a longer time... the food was awesome and the service was on point! We even got to meet the GM at the lobby while he was saying hello to other guests! you never see this at other hotels, and I travel a lot! I am hoping to bring my siblings next time, as this place is awesome for family reunions or quick a romantic get away! read more

So disappointed. I requested a burger with bun on the side. Burger arrived with bun on top. Waiter #2 returned it to the kitchen. Apparently, the chef added a slice of cheese and zapped it in the micro. Burger came back overdone. Fries had apparently been zapped too, so they were inedible. We never saw the same waiter more than once. Add to this that they pushed a $20 glass of wine on me (vs. letting me see a menu). If I pay $100 for lunch, it'd be nice if the food were properly prepared. I guess I was a shortcut. read more

One of the most incredible places. From the views, to the service and accommodations. Everyone is so kind and helpful here. Couldn't dream of a better place to spend a relaxing vacation or just a weekend escape from the city. Beyond expectations, would be my first choice to return to. 10/10! read more

I had a fantastic experience at the Cavallo Point Lodge a few weeks ago. Outside of the incredibly friendly staff and the comfortable and quaint rooms and decor, the staff really helped me get out of a bind. I got a flat tire just up the road from the hotel on my way to check in and the hotel sent out one of their employees to help me change my tire (i had a lug wrench that wasn't working) and return me to the hotel. I cannot say enough about the courtesy and friendliness i experienced here and am sure to come back again in the near future. read more

We just returned from the greatest weekend at Cavallo Point Lodge. I can't say enough about it, except to say that before we left, we made reservations to return in a couple of weeks! The views are spectacular. The historic rooms are exquisite. The food is delicious and VERY reasonably priced. However, the biggest surprise was the cooking school. I am NOT a cook, but I had a phenomenal time and learned techniques that I actually will use! read more

Kinda sucks how this place is SO amazing..but couldn't afford to put up screens on their windows. I appriciate the fact that they want to uphold the integrity of its historical value..but it's just not practical. I went on a weekend that was a little warm..and with the fireplace..it just wasn't pleasant. We asked to have the fireplace turned off...cuz the pilot light was still heating the fireplace which added onto the heat in the room..and for some odd reason..it still radiated heat. We had the ceiling fan on the entire night..with the windows ajar..and woke up drenched in sweat and had quite a few bug bites. =[ On the brightside..the place was absolutely amazing. Views were great..and the property was spectacular. They give you a small tiny flashlight to walk around with at night..but it didn't get THAT dark...but for the price...i'd wish they could throw in a couple window screens. read more

For a girl's night spa getaway, or a romantic retreat, Cavallo Point is amazing! I was visiting a friend in Marin County, and wanted to do an overnight "girl's spa getaway". I looked at several options online--some in SF proper, some in the East Bay, and some along Hwy 1 (Point Reyes, Bodega Bay, etc.) Since my friend lives in Marin, I figured something closer and more convenient would work well! Having settled on Cavallo Point somewhat at random, I had expectations of good service and a lovely spa, but I was thrilled to find relaxed, casual elegance, and sublime service. We booked the "Spa Getaway" package, and took a contemporary room with two queen beds. The package is very generous, including free overnight parking, two spa services, and a continental breakfast. Since we wanted to just hang out and relax, we also booked dinner at Murray Circle. The entire experience was phenomenal--the spa services were fantastic! The spa's outdoor relaxation area (live oak, fire pits, comfy chaise lounges, meditation pool) are the best! The contemporary rooms are very nice and generously sized, and the fireplace/heater is a real treat. (Knowing that this hotel is LEED-gold certified is also very cool!) The staff is very friendly and welcoming without being fawning. The deck outside the restaurant is a fantastic place to have brunch--you can't go wrong watching the fog roll back over the GG, and just enjoying a sunny afternoon over the dungeoness crab BLT. I think that for a romantic getaway, it would be equally fabulous. If I had one criticism, it's that we stayed in the lower-level contemporary room, but could hear the very loud footfalls of a departing guest packing up at 8:30AM. Not sure how the sound is in the classic rooms, but I'd recommend an upper-level room if you stay in the contemporary building. Murray Circle is amazing, too. Local produce, fabulous wine list, great classic cocktails. It's a very classic, handsome room a bit more suited to a steakhouse, but that's more an observation than a criticism! read more

One of my favorite places in Marin. The cocktail lounge has amazing ambiance and decor. Their extensive wine list pairs richly with such a delectable menu making it hard to suggest a few items. When I need an evening getaway and relaxation, I come here. At the end of the night it's nice to sit outside by the fire and look up at the beautiful bay sky. Wonderful place for an intimate evening. read more

I am in love with Cavallo Point. I wish I was still at Cavallo Point. Dear husband, when can we return to Cavallo Point? We just spent New Years at Cavallo. Two blissful, relaxing days at Cavallo. The spa - amazing. I can still smell the Eucalyptus from the steam room. The historic room we stayed in - divine. Two fireplaces, a comfy bed, a luxurious bathroom. Ah, comfort, luxury, relaxation. This was our second stay here and we will be back. Please don't take the less-then-5-stars reviews too seriously - because seriously, this place is heaven. The location is ideal - at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge and just a short drive to the city! But why? We went on a 4 mile hike in the headlands, spent time in the spa and at the Farley bar, had many walks around the lodge. And the property is so inviting, it really is hard to leave. Cavallo Point, I am in love. This place is perfect. read more

Beautiful setting. I haven't stayed here yet, but recently met friends here for a drink on the veranda. I had a bloody mary, and shared a pizza flatbread. The blood mary was too spicy/vinegary...and the flatbread was pretty tasteless. However, the setting was gorgeous on a sunny day....the breezy veranda and the sleepy afternoon sun was perfect. Had a great time with friends. Service was great. I'll be back. read more

A beautiful, peaceful site; rooms nicely done in 100 year old buildings. This place pays attention to every last detail. Gorgeous location (the views are amazing, the buildings and landscaping are exceptionally well kept, and the hiking is great). Fantastic rooms (I stayed in a modern suite which was immaculate, had a very comfortable bed, and felt more like a very nice master bedroom than a hotel room). Absolutely delicious food (breakfast and dinner were so delicious i over ate at each meal)! Customer service is also very good (we were made to feel very welcome and relaxed). Most higher end places have the beautiful exterior, lobby, and public spaces--this place has all of that and beautiful comfortable rooms as well.
