Moreover, she kept my mother as a patient, so it was a personal issue with me. She had no empathy for me and was condescending and egotistical. As for the other doctors--I spent nearly three decades being gaslit about my medical issues and blamed for them. The doctors knew that I was under severe stress and that cortisol affects everything. They nonetheless blamed me for my poor sleep (I was an unpaid caregiver for my parents), issues with diabetes (they kept telling me that "you need to lose weight" as though that was the *only* way to manage it and it was just on me to fix this), my extremely heavy periods ("you need to lose weight and it'll go away!"-- it did not), and felt dismissed. I didn't realize until I left the area how much I'd been gaslit.

Unfortunately, my experience with the assistants was very different. They are all young and often seem distracted. They show you one exercise, then disappear--sometimes to help other patients, other times to chat with coworkers. After every exercise, you're left waiting for your assistant to return and tell you what to do next. This waiting happens throughout the entire appointment. As a Deaf patient recovering from a shoulder injury, this isn't just frustrating--it's a safety issue. During one exercise, they set a timer and then never came back. I don't know whether they forgot about me or got distracted, but I continued the exercise longer than I should have and ended up hurting my shoulder. Eventually, I had to ask another assistant if I was supposed to keep going. They didn't know because I wasn't their patient. After that, I simply completed all the exercises I remembered on my own, wiped down my own table, and even applied the massage lotion to my shoulder at the end. Did anyone notice I was essentially doing everything myself? I don't know. I canceled the rest of my appointments and will be doing my exercises at home. This can be a dangerous environment if you're not self-aware enough to know when to stop or what comes next. Friendly staff are appreciated, but friendliness doesn't make up for inattentiveness when patient safety is at stake.
