The first time I saw Cava, I was excited there was a Mediterranean version of Chipotle and was hopeful it would hit the nail on the head. Although they have Mediterranean-ish options (feta, mint, harissa, what they call "falafel" and a couple of lamb options) it still doesn't come across as Mediterranean, but that's ok because it still tastes pretty good! It's the same concept as Chipotle - you pick your base, proteins and toppings. However, Cava may have a few more options for you to choose from, including an assortment of dips and dressings. Also worthy of mentioning is their assortment of salad greens to choose from, which means you won't be stuck with romaine lettuce as your only option. It's a great concept, it's highly customizable and for the most part it tastes pretty good, but it's just shy of being great in terms of taste. But then again, taste is a matter of preference so you may just love it. Other than that, I really like what Cava is doing with fresh and quick food options, not to mention their assortment of delicious fountain juices. Definitely give it a try and decide for yourself! read more

Really dig this place! For starters, the eco-friendly vibe is appealing to me; their cups, plates, etc. are bio-based and fully biodegradable. BUT, that's to be expected in any place in downtown Bethesda during dinnertime. Good luck finding a place that's not packed, and if it isn't... I probably don't want to be eating there. So, about the food.....Gave the salad a try with all the toppings + seasoned, grilled chicken. Loved it! Everything tasted fresh and the service was awesome. I actually spoke with the manager (who was really sweet) and told her how much I enjoyed my food. Cave Mezze is simple and I like that. Cava is my go to lunch/ dinner place. If I cant figure out what to eat, I will end up at Cava some how. This location is similar to other cava locations, so I really dont have much to add. Except that they refused to let me have my mini pita with the salad bowl I ordered - so mean to my starch-loving, carb-hogging self.. lol!! I would have given them the 4 stars, but now i have to take one off. Also, I did feel like in comparison to other locations their crazy feta dip was a bit too salty for me. Dont get me wrong - Is till polished off my entire bowl, but I could taste the over-saltiness Oh and my sister really liked her falafel pita, so that is a thumbs up! This location is pretty conveneint, so I would not mind coming here again - but they better lemme have my pita next time! O.o read more

This location is in the food court of the West field Montgomery Mall. Do NOT be alarmed by how crazy long the line can be during peak lunch times. The line moves pretty quickly and the food is definitely worth the wait. This food has lots of flavor combinations going on and is packed full of deliciousness. The ordering style is setup eerily similar to that of Chipotle. Choose your base of either a sandwich/rice plate/salad/pita bread then your protein and then add your toppings and sauces. I got the a rice plate with Lemon Herb Tahini Dressing and Eggplant and Harissa Sauces with Spicy Lamb Meatballs. WOW all the different Mediterranean ingredients, sauces, and textures complimented each other so well and tasted great. I really didn't think I would like it but I really enjoyed my meal. The meatballs on the other hand were a little dry and tough but luckily I had some of my gf's chicken and it was moist and flavorful. They also have unlimited house made juice refills?? Yes Please! Their pineapple mint is the best one in my opinion and I can drink at least five of those in one sitting. This is Chipotle from another mother! Although a little more expensive, I think it's worth it. The pita wrap isn't as big, but quality over quantity in this case. I read reviews and articles about the lamb and how it's their signature, so here goes it: warm pita - 1/2 harissa and 1/2 eggplant & red pepper - lamb - tomato onion, tomato cucumber, cabbage salad, feta, basmati rice - foil After I got this colorful creation, I picked out the cabbage salad to taste because it's something I didn't expect in a wrap, well a Greek wrap. It tasted like the other salads, just cabbage. My first bite, I hit a good piece of lamb because it still had a nice crust to it. I did not expect this and I like. All the flavors meshed so well, especially the the kick in the harissa. When the wife and I visited their restaurant in Rockville, I remember crushing this dip with the pita, in fact, I asked the server for some to take home, delish. The flavors were just refreshing, from the cucumbers, cabbage, and tomatoes. And then the twist is that feta, which isn't so overpowering like some feta cheeses I've had. The truth, I didn't really taste the eggplant and red pepper spread because harissa just took over, in a good way. Next time and there will be many more, I'm going to mix it up a little. Definitely a spot to go before prime time lunch hours. As mentioned, the wrap is a little smaller, but if you want fresh ingredients all around, I recommend this place. I had a Supergreens bowl with beef meatballs and chicken; crazy feta, spicy harissa, and tzatziki; and a host of different vegetable toppings. To drink, I had their housemade Ginger Turmeric Lime Tonic, which is only lightly sweetened and very refreshing. My daughter loved her carrot sticks with roasted red pepper hummus (we told her it was ketchup dip), rice, and chicken with pita bread. It was pretty good, and the quality was excellent. Everything looks and is very fresh. The vegetable selection could use an improvement. Also, I wish I ordered a different meat. The lamb was a little dry. I just heard from someone else that the sirloin is the route to go. Lesson learned... I'll get it next time and update. As for the portion size, they say it is about the same as a chipotle. We thought it was a bit smaller. You be the judge. I don't know if its the flavor of the ingredients or the heavy use of pickled toppings but it doesn't have that refreshing kick that Chipotle has and Max's Falafel in Wheaton (the best sandwich / pita toppings ever, period). That being said, the meat is pretty good. Meatballs are well-seasoned and juicy. Crazy feta is absolutely phenomenal. I think they changed the recipe since I started eating it ~two years ago- it used to be more "feta-y" in taste and texture and now it resembles more of a creamy dip rather than the almost straight feta and oil + spice mix I used to annihilate at MOM's. Nevertheless, still a decent choice. Hummus is ok, nothing to call home about. I tend to get a little bit of everything except for harisa. The price is about the same as Chipotle's. I slapped a whole mess of ingredients in the same compostable bowl every DC restaurant uses and when it hit my tastebuds they woke like a sleeping baby in Philly during post Super Bowl riots! Been coming here since Day 1 then opened couple years back. While now, during COVID its super slow, their food is still super fresh. Most eateries can't say that, it just sits there for hours and hours, here they time it precisely and so I have not had a bad meal yet in the last year or years...and it keeps getting better and better, lentils, not a big fan ever, and here I am at 43 yrs old starting to eat lentils. So the concept is very similar to Chipotle. The ingredients are higher quality and its more greek, than mexican (gyros vs burritos) . The portions are smaller too, which is both a good and bad thing. When we do come, we feel like we are eating healthy and with living in the city and eating out almost everyday you need to make it a point to eat healthy. I will start by saying during eat in the restaurant times, I genuinely enjoy Cava. Great food, and healthy. Eat there on a regular basis. However, handling takeout orders seems be to out this restaurant's competency range. We have ordered takeout twice in the past ten days. The first time there were some minor errors. The staff was quite rude about the errors. Today, not so minor. The staff was not rude, but not accurate. We ordered 4 dinner meals and the restaurant got exactly one correct. One order was missed entirely. One order was filled twice, albeit incorrectly. For example we ordered supergreens on two of orders and each order was filled with spinach. Until we are ready to go back into the restaurant sometime in the future, we will be supporting other area restaurants with out takeout orders. read more

Oh my goodness. I absolutely love this place. For the price of a half greens and half grains bowl, I pretty much loaded it up with everything! So much great healthy options for a fair price. Energy packing, flavor filled, and variety loaded bar. I ordered myself the half green/grain: super greens (brussel sprouts, kale, cabbage), black lentils, 3 dips (eggplant + red pepper, crazy feta, and roasted red pepper hummus), spicy lamb meatballs, and ALL the free unlimited toppings (romaine, pita crisps, cabbage slaw, tomato & onion, diced cucumber, tomato & cucumber, kalamata olives, cauliflower quinoa tabbouleh, pickled onions, lemon wedge, fresh mint, and pickled banana peppers, feta, white bean salad, all topped with a drizzling of the spicy apricot dressing. The bowl was packed to the brim, a mound of energy packed healthy goodness. The flavors from the 3 dips added a wonderful fusion of flavors to the green veggie base. The spicy lamb meatballs were cooked to perfection (nice and red on the inside :P). Mildy spicy (perfect kick on the palate). And I loved the spicy apricot dressing. It was a nice addition to the mix of various vegetable/pickled veggie toppings. I definitely got the BANG for my buck with this meal. This place is pretty much like a chipotle, but the 'SUPERFOOD' version of it. I dont think anyone would feel bad coming out of this place given the healthy options available. I frequented many CAVA locations and this one is on par food wise. The staff however is horrendous. They have no respect for the food, ingredients are slapped into the bowl like slop. I'm not sure if I caught them on a bad day but I will not be returning to this location. The management team needs to train the staff on proper customer service. read more

The arrival of Cava Grill to Bethesda Row was bestowed upon us yesterday and certainly did not disappoint. I was surprised to find it wasn't very busy when AC and I got there around 2030 hours but I assume it was pretty hoppin' around lunchtime earlier that day. The space is industrial minimalist and definitely showcases their commitment to a greener lifestyle. I particularly enjoyed viewing the clear glass-bottles as hanging light fixtures around the space. Also, they have a trash-sorter which is not a new concept but is clearly labeled for minimal confusion when disposing your paper/waste/bottles after eating. Cava Grill serves up Chipotle-style Greek cuisine. By "Chipotle-style", I mean that you choose a protein- chicken ($6.90), loukaniko ($6.90), lamb ($7.50), ground sirloin ($6.90) falafel($6.90) and then either a salad, pita, mini pita or bowl, add a sauce as well as toppings. Sauces included tzatziki, hummus, harissa, loukaniko and toppings were feta, cucumbers, tomato/onion mixture, tomato/cucumber mixture, lettuce, something with olives, and perhaps something else I'm forgetting. It certainly strays from the sit-down dinner Cava Restaurants up in Rockville or down by Capitol Hill but is perfect for the Bethesda diners on the go. I chose the open-faced mini-pitas** with chicken, pork and lamb. For sauces, I had tzatziki and hummus and then topped everything off with cucumbers, tomato/onion and feta. Also, I ordered a side of the pita chips and hummus ($3). Each of the meats were deliciously bursting with flavor. The toppings were incredibly fresh and I enjoyed every bite. My only complaint is that everything was perhaps a tad salty - and it's possible that this is a result of choosing the saltier toppings so that adjustment should be made on my part for future visits. The hummus and pita chips were also a treat. Perfectly balanced flavors of chickpeas, lemon, tahini and garlic. I could totally get used to those as my afternoon snack. So pleased to have you here! **I should note that even though they are "pitas", open-faced meant that they were kind of difficult to eat with just your hands so a fork and knife is definitely necessary. Cava Mezze wasn't what I expected. Two of my best friends named the place for us to meet for a quick dinner. I was early and walked on by, heading up the street for a place with a full bar. When I peeked in, I thought the place would be a Chipotle with a different name. I don't like Chipotle. Happy Day, however. Cava is kind of a Greek version of Chipotle, but lots better. The same Subway-esque format exists: approach the counter, order the first piece, move on and specify the condiments and goodies you want on your food item. I ended up getting a salad (had sandwiches for lunch) with lamb, and tahini and harissa sauces. (note: you can get more than one sauce!!). I highly recommend some harissa if you like spice. The best way to describe this place is definitely a Greek version of chipotle. My first experience was about three days ago but I'm so ready to go back again. I ordered a bowl with grilled meatballs and 3 sauces, red pepper and eggplant, red pepper hummus and tzatziki. It was topped with a variety of other ingredients which made the dish refreshing and light. For a meal that's less than 10 dollars and quite filling, I was very much impressed.
