Skip the proteins, 2. Get a rice bowl, 3. Load up the veggies and toppings 4. Get "to-go" even if you're eating there (the bowls are bigger, yes I realize my photo isn't to-go but I forgot about that trick on my first visit back..) 5. I got a bowl with the braised lamb and some sorry looking avocado (not yet ripe). The lamb was...well, was it meat or was it salt that they just formed in the shape and texture of meat? I love the Cava at DCA airport, so when this one opened up by me I had to go. I took my wife for lunch and we enjoyed ourselves. This was her first time to a CAVA and she really enjoyed herself. We ordered 2 salad bowls with falafel and other ingredients. We even tried the new seasonal drinks they had. The beet lemonade was my favorite. It didn't get 5 stars bc it was a little dirty in the restaurant and the restroom. We will definitely be coming back. read more

The food here is quite good. If you don't like your meal, it is your fault since you get to chose what you want. I basically had a grain bowl with the beef meatballs and spicy chicken. O can't recall the rest of the toppings, bit it was good. The staff was very friendly the night I ate here. Here is why I rate it low, the music! I don't understand why a business plays music so loudly that people can't carry on a conversation; especially a fine in restaurant! It was so loud that all i wanted to do was leave while I was standing in line to order. Oddly, there were signs on the sneeze guard telling customers to speak loudly and to not be afraid to tell the employees to speak up since both should be wearing masks. The masks weren't the problem, it was the loud music. I would have to give careful consideration before going back. I would just as soon drive a little further to Mezeh than deal with the music. We went for their opening day yesterday and it was great. They were out of a few things for quality reasons, but I respect them keeping their quality standards. Employees were all very friendly, even though some were a little lost (this is understandable, it's just the first day.) Given the experiences I have had at other locations I have faith everyone will come up to speed in no time. The location was very nice! It was bright and open, the large windows on the side let a lot of great natural light in. I used to love CAVA and ate here weekly at least, but recently it just hasn't been worth it. For the price you pay, this location is just WAY too skimpy on their portions. I've gotten food both to go and to eat in store, and both have been so small. For here is even worse because the plastic bowl is just smaller than the takeout container so I would recommend getting it to go even if you plan on eating it there. Yes, the food is fresh and good, and the drinks are delicious (especially the cucumber basil one!) but a grain bowl and small drink for $14 definitely isn't worth it if I'm hungry an hour later. I usually order via the app and pick up in store, but tonight I ate in store and watched them make my bowl. They gave two tiny scoops of rice! I asked for many toppings and even with all of the toppings my bowl looked so tiny that my husband even noticed. We've been eating here pretty much since they opened and they used to give HUGE portions- the to-go containers were filled to the top and the lids would squish them down! It was enough for two meals for me with the pita bread. Now the bowls are only filled 75% full even if you request all the toppings via the app. They have smaller scoops now I guess. They also frequently miss toppings that I checked off on the app, something different every time, but especially mint and lemon slices. I love CAVA but it just isn't worth it anymore- Roti serves similar food but gives a much bigger portion. Or if you're in the area, &pizza and Five Guys are right next door at the same price point but are way more filling. I'm disappointed because CAVA used to be my go-to place and I kept coming back even though portions kept shrinking because I figured it was just a fluke, but it's been months now unfortunately. I would only recommend if you're trying to eat healthy and don't mind paying a premium for it. read more

I'm a big fan of CAVA, to the point that when I fly in to Washington DC I make sure I stop in as often as I can. I'm rarely disappointed, but this particular location definitely needs some help. ||Side note: the CAVA app is a great place to see what exactly the restaurant offers, and will help you see what your options are before you show up in person! You can also order ahead on it!|| I didn't feel like any of the employees wanted to be there - they pretty much slopped my food in the bowl, gave me very small portions and neglected to give me my side of pita bread, or the pita crisps on top. Also, as someone who has worked take out in the past, I am a strong believer that you should remind the customer where to pick up utensils and napkins. I understand that I probably should've paid more attention, but I was in a rush and that was part of my downfall. Both bathrooms were in disarray- completely out of paper towels, and one had no toilet paper while the other had a roll carelessly placed on top of the dispenser. They both stank, had piss all over the floor and the music was blaring at an uncomfortable volume inside. The food itself - okay, but portions were definitely smaller than I've gotten elsewhere. Also still missing my pita bread! UPDATE-I got pretty bad food poisoning after eating this meal. Which was the only thing I ate all day. Disappointing to say the least. read more

I'm in love with this place! I was in awe because I've never even heard of this chain before! So, it's like Chipotle, but for Greek food! You can build a bowl, salad, or pita and they have lots of options from olives to mint that you can add to your meal. I especially loved the dill dressing, hummus, and the falafel. Those are some of the many topping choices. Pro-tip 1: for protein, you can do half and half. For example, I did half chicken, (which was tender and deliciously seasoned) and half falafel! Moving next door to a CAVA probably wasn't the best thing for my bank account but definitely is the best thing for my stomach! Ha. I love their approach to fresh food and how you are able to make your own bowl. I pretty much can recommend everything they have but always go for half chicken half falafel grain bowls with rice, lentils, red pepper hummus, regular hummus, cucumbers, tomatoes, feta, lettuce, and topped with the dill sauce. Its 3 hrs before closing and some of their best toppings were missing and they had no intention of refilling them! Oh Cava, how I love you. Except for this location, which is not just going through "growing pains" as a new location anymore. It's just downright poorly operated. First, I adore Cava, and it's my go-to place for lunches and sometimes dinner when I'm working downtown. I live in Alexandria though, and this is my closest location, so I've been here probably half dozen times since they've opened. Here's what to know: 1) they mess up online orders. Like, a lot. Like, 50% of the time a lot. 2) they mess up orders, they 100% know about it (such as subbing a different ingredient when they've run out of something without asking or telling you), and they 100% don't care. But today the final straw: after messing up my salad order (again, they're batting 500%! Great job guys), I noted it, and opened up my salad container to show them what was missing in my order. That employee then stuck his naked, ungloved fingers in my salad to tell me I was wrong and show me these mythical, nonexistent ingredients. Horror-struck, I told him that's disgusting and now I couldn't eat the salad now that he's touched it with his bare hands. I was told, and I quote, "that I disrespected him" (the employee) by saying that. Holy god, this place needs a much better understanding of food safety standards, and how to deal with employees in desperate need of "what never to say to customers" life skills. This is the only CAVA location I've ever been to so I can't compare it to any others but my experience here was good. Lots of options for food and also unique drink choices. I got a grain bowl with veggies and no upgrades which came out to $10 and change, a pit pricey in my opinion especially considering I didn't choose a meat. My one complaint is about an employee. A young girl who was working both times that I've visited looked completely miserable to be there and it was very off putting. read more

I love Cava, food is great when they get it right but this location really struggles with getting it right. 1. Online orders are messed up half of the time and are not ready in time the other half. 2. They are almost always lacking plastic ware here 3. The last time I ordered for me and my husband, his bowl was literally half the size of mine (pic shown) even though we both got rice and greens. It almost looked like his was a kids sized portion or something? 4. This location makes little sense for walkers even though many of us walk from the housing across the street because traffic is so bad in the area. They rarely cut back the shrubs so you have to walk through a tiny dirt path. Forget ever trying to get in with a stroller or wheel chair. Generally, I LOVE Cava and this location is no exception. The quality and standards are the same across the board from my experience. I was a little disappointed on the skimping of the dips/spreads but the amount of chicken, lettuce in my salad bowl, and other selected toppings was on point. Also I asked for 2 dressings (my favorite-yogurt sriracha and yogurt dill) on the side and received an ample amount of both. The dining area is spacious and there is outside seating too. I appreciated the young man who made my salad asked if I wanted more arugula and went back and got more for me. The credit card machine was down that day so it had to be manually entered, but it did not present a problem here as it was a weekday early evening and not really much of a line. Everything moved smoothly and quickly down the assembly line. Great addition to Potomac Yard Shopping Center! Most of you are probably familiar with Cava. Fast casual Mediterranean food. Choose your base, protein, and toppings. I usually get the half chicken, half veggies over the super greens or brown/white rice. The tzatziki sauce and ingredients are usually on point. The pickled onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, feta cheese, and everything else is all fresh. And they fill up the bowl based on my experience. I definitely recommend the app. You get $8 off for every $88 you spend, and they give you a free meal during your birthday month. Plus, you avoid the line if you are planning on going during a busy time. My only complaint is that there are no cushioned seats. Most fast causal places follow that model of no cushioned seats. I guess they don't want you to get too comfortable eating there. read more

Everybody in my family loves Cava, even my 3yr old grandson, for whom a trip to Cava is cause for excitement. Our closest locate is Duke street which is the one we go 80% of the time. However, yesterday I went to this location (Potomac Yards) with my grandson and will sadly say never again. It was around 2:30pm so I thought to myself "good, the lunch rush will be over" and it was calm and just a few tables occupied. While ordering my food I noticed most of the items I like to add, like Feta cheese, had not been replenished and was told they were out of them. When proceeded to the tables, they were all dirty, nobody was wiping the clean. When finished eating my 3yr old asked to go to the bathroom. One of the two bathrooms was out, when I went in the only one available I wanted to run out and go home but a 3yr old can't wait. The toilet seat was filthy with excrements,, there was no toilet paper and no paper to dry your hand after washing!!!! And when exiting the bathroom, guess who was waiting to go in......an employee!!!! And it didn't look he was going in to clean!!!!! Also when we took our tray and trash to the trash containers, they were all overflowing with trash!!!! It is obvious this location has a massive management and teamwork failure. Conventional wisdom would say that this visit may suffer from hitches and hiccups but I must say that it didn't.
