Always enjoy eating here. The food is always great, the bread is to die for, the drinks are strong and the service is usually pretty quick, but also doesn't make you feel rushed. read more

From the other reviews, it looks like this place is really hit or miss. I grew up in the Central Valley, but now live in Southern California, and I went here for the first time last night. First off, the food was delicious, but I've had better for more affordable down south. The steak was tender and mine was cooked perfectly, although 2/5 of us got meat that was undercooked per what they ordered. We had reservations for 5 (at 5 pm, so just before typical dinner time) but were still seated at a booth meant for 4 (right next to a huge, loud, rowdy party too, unfortunately), and when we were seated there were only salad and bread plates for 4. We also had no silverware, and had to wait for about 10 minutes after our salad and bread were brought out for our waitress to bring us silverware. When our food came out, one meal was missing fries, and again it took a good 10 minutes for them to be brought out. I don't know what's typical, but we also only got one little bowl of beans for 5 adults. We were celebrating two birthdays, and told the person when we made our reservation. We also told the person who seated us when they asked. Nothing ever came of it. I'm not sure what this place does for birthdays, but it should've happened last night and didn't. The manager happened to ask how our evening was when we paid, and we told him all of this, and... he gave us his business card? Why, exactly? So we can call him to tell him all of this again with no attempt at making it right? Okay. All in all, I'm not exactly itching to ever go back. I can get food that's equally good or better at a place with better prices and much better service/management. read more

Went there once, service was great but our medium steak was too dry. We told the waitress about dry meat at the end of meal and told him no need to report to the manager since we already done our dinner. It was just an information next time don't cook too long. However he still went to the manager and manager immediately came to us and made a fresh juicy steak for free. Second steak was juicy and delicious. Love their services read more

We took the family out for a nice diner. We made a reservation and were seated right away when arrived. The server took a while to take our drink order. Our appetizers took a while to arrive. Once they add arrive the artichoke dip was very good the fried calamari was tough to hard to eat. As we waited for our entrees to arrive we had some great conversation. We noticed several table that arrived after us receive their entrees before us. Our server didn't come back to our table u til she brought us our entrees. My ribeye steak was luck warm but cooked correctly. My sons sirloin was which was suppose to be medium rare was well done and also luck warm. My daughters steak was also over cooked to well done. My wife's food was cooked correctly. My youngest sons food was cold. When we brought it to our servers attention she took the food back to have it corrected but it took over 25 minutes to get their food back. So in total we waited over an house for our food. A manager never came out and our server never made an attempt to correct or give a reassign for the extremely long wait time. This is a well known steakhouse in our area which we drove over 45 minutes to visit. We will most likely not go back due to this not being the first time we have had pour service and the quality of the food has been disappointing. read more

We have eaten here a couple of times. If you come here please don't think that you will spend less than $100. It's good but a little over priced. The waiters are very good and friendly. Love this place! read more

Had a last min surprise party for a family member. And they were so great to get us in and our own room. The server nick... AMAZING!!!! He was on top of everyone's needs and requests before I would ask! Plus the food was super good too!! Will defiantly have events here again! read more

Considering they are only a evening (5 to 10 pm) restaurant and they are slow with service overall, I'm amazed they stay in business. When you go out, you pay for service and hopefully a higher quality of food they are not providing that anymore. Old customers rave but new ones rave in the wrong way. The food is adequate but hardly much to say its much better than a stake from the local grocery. . read more

Came back to one of our favorite restaurants, Cattlemens, to celebrate a birthday and unfortunately things have turned for the worst. 3 out of 5 of our steaks were either very undercooked or overcooked. The waiters were nice enough. I'm not sure if they have had alot of employee turnover, especially in the kitchen, but I will not be coming back anytime soon. Hopefully things change, but we will be looking for a new place to enjoy our celebrations and eat steak. read more

Two stars when weighing PRICE & QUALITY. I will start with quality, my mothers ribs were overcooked and not tender. My wife's chicken was not juicy, my crab legs (i ordered surf and turf type meal) were cold and the meat was so shrunk in the leg it seemed like they were overcooked days ago and then re-heated to go on my plate. I gave two stars because the waitress was friendly (but slow). Not advised. read more

Decided to stop here on the way home. Always heard about the restaurant and the Harris ranch beef they serve. The service was excellent but the food was okay. Ordered the calamari and stuffed mushrooms to start and the ribeye, New York, and Pete's special (sirloin) for entrees. The best out of the 3 was the rib eye but it wasn't the best steak I've ever eaten. Being that it's a steakhouse I was underwhelmed and thought it would be much better. The New York steak was salty which made it hard to eat. We all ordered the mash potatoes and it had good flavor and consistency. The dinner came with salad and baked beans (unlimited). When ordering the Pete's special you get a complimentary beverage (beer, wine, or soft drink) which I thought was nice. It's a favorite for +45 years. All in all I was glad to have stopped and tried the restaurant because I see the ads on the highway all the time and was curious but I wouldn't say I'd go back. read more

I eat here on a weekly basis! I always eat at the bar and Christy is usually my server. She will do whatever it takes to make sure my beer is cold. Tonight I came in toward the end of the night. I ordered Blue Cheese bread but it turns out they were out. The management (Nacho) personally made me a fresh order! Service here is great. They really care about their customers. read more

I made a reservation for my parents 40th Anniversary, and I made it online with no problem. Two days before, I needed to up the count, and they were able to accommodate! Off to a good start. We arrived 30-15 minutes prior to our reservation, went into the bar and grabbed a drink, bartender and service was great. We transfered to our table at our scheduled reservation time, and we're promptly refreshed with water and drinks as needed. Appetizers were ordered immediately and showed up in a reasonable time. I'm Gluten free, the bacon wrapped shrimp was great! I was told the onion straws were amazing and the calamari was perfection! Our salads and soups all came out at a good time, and my crouton less salad was not a problem! When dinner came out, my rib eye was perfectly cooked, as ordered (medium well). My veggies and baked potato were super yummy, and gluten free! Other meats ordered were prime rib, NY, Ribs, and filet. All were cooked to perfection! The celebration and song was a great ending and start to desert hour! We had such a great time, great food, and the service was top notch! I can't wait to go back! read more

Definitely a miss tonite!! Have been to Cattleman's for many years. It is usually great, not always perfect, but pretty darn good!! That being said... It had been awhile since our last visit, I told my husband that I really wanted to go and have dinner, so we were excited to go have a great dinner! Wrong. Arrived and was told 20 min wait, so off to bar for a beer. Was seated in about 10 mins. Given our bread & regular drinks, then we wait, and wait. Ok our dinner order is taken. Salad comes right away. After salad, we wait, and wait. Food arrives :-/ my son ordered the Ribeye, they brought a New York. He asked waiter, he said "oh that's what you ordered". My husband got Steak & King Crab Legs, his few, and I mean few legs were tiny (like snow crab) and they were a really unpleasant grayish color and were cold. I got Prime Rib, and it wasn't that warm either, usually sizzles when they put au juis on the metal plate, not this time. All and all our dinners were just mediocre. Very disappointed. Maybe quite some time before I return. Sad that we waisted over $100. !!! read more

This is one of those times where you hate to give a negative review for a restaurant that you USED to enjoy dining at. A Friday night is pretty packed but staff was rude (we asked to get an extra chair at the bar and they said that all chairs were "assigned" or called parties that arrived after us with no reservation with the same number of people in the group...) After about an hour wait, we were seated and the manager spoke with us and apologized for the wait and assured us that we would be waited on right away. We waited another 20 mins and we still didn't have a waiter come and ask us about drinks. We left after 30 minutes of waiting. Just negligent service from some of the staff. Hoping the experience is better in the near future. read more

Went to a business Christmas party where they prepared a special menu for the group event. The cowboy steak was very fatty and had a lot of gristle. The prime rib was forgettable but for the untrimmed fat. Hubby likes the beans. A steakhouse should have better steak. Overpriced; you are better off going to another place for steak. read more

I feel like maybe the steaks are precooked and then frozen. They are tough and dry. Its a really loud and busy restaurant for some unknown reason. Weekends are nearly impossible without a reservation. I only go here when its for a party and I have no choice. read more

As a vegetarian, it's difficult to accurately evaluate a steakhouse. That being said, I am forced to judge the restaurant on service, side-orders, and cocktails alone. The salad (which I presume comes with most meals) was delicious as was the bread. I ordered a steamed artichoke, twice-baked potato, and brownie dessert. All were SO delicious. Everyone at the table was very satisfied by the meat. The service was very good and the ambiance was so-so in my opinion. If you are a big meat-eater, I would highly recommend this restaurant. read more

This is by far the best steak house I've ever had the pleasure of dining in. The food is awesome, and it doesn't matter what you order. If you can request Arjen as your waiter! I have always wanted to eat here and it was everything I expected and more. As soon as we walked in the hostess was friendly and right as we sat down we had our waters poured without having to ask. The staff was very friendly the entire time. Bussers constantly made sure we had refills on everything. My mai tai drinks were great, the endless sourdough bread and salad were both great (homemade blue cheese dressing ) the potato skin appetizers were delicious and the steaks were unreal. Our server was great and never make us feel rushed to leave, even though they were very busy, and she was very attentive. I'm already trying to figure out when I can come back. read more

I have been a consistent customer of this restaurant for over 8yrs. Today was the worst service I have ever received from any establishment. I walked into the bar area at 9:30pm and sat in the middle table. I waited 10 minutes to be acknowledged by anyone. Then I started to wave my hand / arm at anyone who looked like a server. Everyone literally ignored me. They seem to see right through me as if I didn't exist. At 9:50, I just walked out and told the hostess at the cash register that they were a bunch of incompetent idiots. The bar was not busy. There were only two tables being serviced in the bar area. Everyone else was done and just talking. The staff was just hanging around the bar area chitchatting. Later I called and talked to the assistant manager Dave. I told him of my experience. He basically said this was not normal and not part of their policy or training. He said that he would review the situation and retrain/talk to the staff. He also asked me to come back and that he would serve me personally. He said that he was wearing all black and did I see him. Funny thing was that he also ignored me as he served the table of 6 adjacent to mine. I'm an IT consultant and travel to Fresno 10-15 times year. I come to this restaurant at least 10 times / year with customers and friends because they usually have good service and decent food. After this incident, I'm going to take my business to restaurants like Maroo and Max's who value my patronage. read more

We were here this week for a birthday celebration, a group of 14 made up of adults, giggly teens and wiggly kids. Our server was patient, attentive and very helpful in getting the kids orders "kid friendly" (no mushrooms, lots of ranch and endless beverage refills). Every meal was perfectly prepared, the server checked with each of us to make sure steaks were as ordered etc, and the servings so generous that half of us left with take home boxes. The atmosphere is unrushed, perfect for casual dining, and kid friendly. Definitely a family favorite. read more

Took my dad here for his bday (March 2 2013) It was Horrible & slow service, wrong orders, burnt steaks, & to top it off my dad dropped his wallet on the way out & the $800 that was inside was stolen by the bus boy. It was caught on store surveillance camera. The Rude manager acted like he didnt believe us when we went back about an hour later to recover it. No apology for the bad service or the thief they have as an employee. They finally agreed to check the camera & sure enough it was all on there. We had to call Selma PD ourselves in order to press charges. We had a table of about 16 & spent upwards around $500 that night & for them to pretty much call us liars they need to really reevaluate how this place is being ran & managed. This used to be my dads fave place to go on his bday but after this BS we will Never be returning. Any suggestions for a new fave steakhouse that would love our business? This place is a joke & so is the asshole manager. read more

My first time to the Cattlemen's. Steak was "Char-Rare" to perfection! Wine choice suggested was very good. Only issue was the server--started off great, messed up clear details of the order, and finished with no response. That was weird. Another waiter took over our table. He was delightful, but the service damage had been done. I had thoughtfully suggested to our waiter how it should have been handled--the split dinner--should come with two plates....side orders were over-looked.... He did not seem to appreciate the sincerity of my advice, made an excuse. You don't bring a steak dinner to a couple, that also ordered sides extra (did not get), and expect them to be eating from the single plate? Hmmmm? But the steak was SO tender and so thick!! The environment is nice. So one star deducted. 3 1/2 would be truer. Service is so important to the total experience!! read more

Horrible experience, terrible waitress, worse food! First things we sat down, every dish on the table was dirty. Waitress was incompetent. We had to ask for everything 3-4 Times and it was wrong when it came. Waited 40 minutes for ice cold, stale food. The potatoe was not only cold but crispy from sitting under the heat lamp so long. Never coming here again. 70 dollars for an inedible meal! read more

The food was great. I had the sheriff, it was the biggest steak ever. What made even better, was our waitress, Jessica G. She was very nice and brought everything to us very quickly. She got our orders right the first time and kept our drinks full. She is an Awesome waitress. read more

First time here without reservations, wait was about a 30 minute wait, (make reservations ahead.) Staffs are friendly. Our waitress was delightful, Danielle. The steak was delicious, as well as tri tip, chicken & ribs. Overall we would dine here again. :) well worth the 30 minute drive! read more

If I could I would give it 0 stars. First off the customers shouldn't be along to smoke next to the entrance. The service I received, or lack of it was HORRIBLE! Most of our time there we sat thirsty with empty water glasses. Our server was missing most of the time. Not only was my desert thrown at me, slid across the table to me because it was not placed down it was thrown. The to go box I asked for was also thrown at me! I will never return. The only person I saw doing his job was the young man who was cleaning the tables. Every other employee including the manager was lacking and does not belong in this industry. read more

Went for a birthday dinner and we were a group of 10. They are pretty pricey (FYI) I ordered rib eye steak medium well with garlic fries (1.99 extra) and I believe my plate was suppose to come with baked beans but it didnt. My daughter ordered mozzarella moons and shrimp cocktail. The sour dough bread they serve is hot and fresh but due to us being hungry and a large group they couldnt refill fast enough. The all you can eat salad was served as a large salad and we all took some from the bowl. That was it, when it was empty they just took it back and didnt ask if we wanted refills. My ribeye was cooked well done and had to send it back. The waiter was nice and no problems with getting a fresh, medium well ribeye. Another person in my group ordered her steak medium well as also but hers was RARE. She didnt send hers back. My tab was a pretty penny. read more

The Wednesday night $9.99 steak plus half wine special cannot be beat!!! Great waitstaff. Friendly, fast efficient service.

In fifteen years this was our third time eating at Cattlemen's. After a short motorcycle ride we stopped in for dinner on a Friday night. The restaurant was busy but the staff had everything under control. My wife and I had the dinner for two for $50+. This meal offered one appetizer, two entrees and two desserts. It was a good value with plenty of food. We shared the prime rib and boneless ribeye. Both were cooked as requested, medium rare. The food was good, service excellent and atmosphere casual. There seems to be something for everyone's appetite. read more

Have not been to a Cattlemens in a long time. We were very happy. The service was frequent, friendly, and accomodating. I ordered the prime rib (on recommendation from a busser) and asked if their "Medium" was really all pink and they said yes and it was perfect. If you order blue cheese dressing they will offer blue cheese crumblies to go with your salad and it was great. I didn't like their blue cheese dressing though. They said they "thought" their butter was real butter, but no one seemed totally sure. We got the kids rib dinner for our chid and 2 big beef ribs with a bunch of red skin potatoes came and he was very satisfied. DH got a rack of baby back ribs but said they were dry and tough. I can highly recommend eating here when you're passing on hwy99 or staying in Selma. I can't recommend eating NY steak across the highway at Spike N Rail at the Holiday Inn. I sent it back because it was charred and it came back Med/Well. They covered the baked potato in some crushed salt too. The breakfasts here are not very tasty either. I got an omelet and it gave me a little indigestion afterwards. read more
