Fried Porkchop
Jeffrey R.

We were asked to wait because of shift change right when we walked in the door, not a good sign. We were seated in a back bar area. Our server was pleasant and took our drink order promptly. Then a second server introduced herself after explaining she didn't know why but they would be sharing duties. Okay. The main reason I returned to Cattleman's was because I had a delicious fried pork chop at the same restaurant but a different location 3 months prior and I couldn't stop thinking it. I ordered the same here. When it was served it was nothing like my previous. It was wet, with no breading or batter. Not crunchy. The chop was still moist but very disappointing. The service was erratic with a young man announcing they were understaffed. When I asked why there was a difference to our server she questioned if my photo from the previous experience was photoshopped. LoL, I took the photograph. The salad bar was still very good. Just disappointing.

Met a friend here for a weekday lunch at noon and easily found parking. The place is usually packed, but was only half-full today and not surprising after a long holiday weekend (Labor Day). Immediate seating in a comfortable booth. Service was attentive and not rushed. Noise level was mild and easily able to hold a normal inside-voice conversation. I was tempted to get the salad bar, but decided to order the bruschetta chicken from the Lighter Options section of the menu -- a grilled chicken breast topped with basil pesto bruschetta and a choice of side (plain baked sweet potato). The topping was very flavorful and a bit more oily than I would have expected, as well as the potato being buttered when baked, so I'm glad I at least attempted to make a healthy choice. I did give in and also sampled a roll from the basket brought to the table and even added a schmear of cinnamon butter -- delicious and yeasty. Great value and reasonable compared to similar sit down venues.

We have been wanting to visit Cattleman's Roadhouse, and we got a chance on an apparently slow night. The décor was as expected for a steak place -- a lot of pine wood. We were sat in the bar area, which was in the back. Unfortunately, were we near the door the employees used to go out and smoke. Our waiter was also the bartender. I ordered the 7 ounce Top Sirloin. I wasn't anything special, but it was perfectly OK. It was cooked properly but lacked flavor.

We waited several months to finally try this steakhouse due to how crowded it's been since opening. We stopped in on a Thursday night and were seated right away at a table in the bar area. After being seated, it was 20+ minutes before anyone acknowledged us, brought menus, it took drink orders. Once our drinks and rolls came out, it took another 15 minutes for a different waitress to take our order. We ordered a steak, the grilled salmon with bourbon glaze, and both got a baked potato. We also both added the salad bar after hearing rave reviews about it. We proceeded to the salad bar, where an employee was refilling all the salad ingredients -- dumping plastic pales of cheese, dressing, etc. into the containers. Obviously the dressings here aren't made in-house, and nothing on the salad bar is chopped or sliced, it's all pre-packaged. Overall salad bar impression: lettuce was fresh, ranch dressing was not to our taste. Tasted like bottled dressing, like Kraft. Won't get again, especially not for an upcharge. As far as entrees, they were very generic? I guess that's the word I'm looking for. The steak was bland, the salmon was decent but the bourbon glaze kind of killed it for me -- it tasted like a cheap glaze out of a packet or something. Following our meal, it took almost 30 minutes to get our check and finally pay so we could leave. This entire meal and service was a huge disappointment, especially for $70. Will not return. This is a knock-off steakhouse with cheap ingredients from a food service supplier.

Food 10/10 I mean literally my boyfriend and I were overwhelmed at how wonderful everything looked, how delicious it was. Multiple times we brought it up in conversation. The food felt like an experience. Steak 10/10 (I know I said food but this has to be in its own category) oh my gosh. Please go get the Delemonico cut, medium. It melts in your mouth, no need for A1. This cut was recommended by Cheyenne and she got it spot on! Ambiance felt like home, everyone was friendly. The manager even came to our table so we were able to compliment them personally. We definitely found our favorite place to eat in Louisville. Thank you Cast Iron for a wonderful night!

Returning recently, the food was still very good, but now everything comes out on regular plates, and some of that original magic felt lost. That said, this is still a solid local steakhouse. The staff was attentive, the meal was flavorful, and the prices were fair, especially compared to many of the more famous steakhouses across the Ohio River in Louisville. It may not have the prestige or polish of some of those places, but that's also part of its appeal. This feels more like a neighborhood restaurant serving happy locals than a destination fine dining spot -- and honestly there's something refreshing about that. Good food, good service, reasonable prices, and a comfortable atmosphere without trying too hard. Sometimes that's exactly what you want.

We were in last week for dinner, for a dual Birthday celebration and had a larger group of about 20 people. We sat in the front room, and it was rather warm in there, but it was an unusually hot day for mid-September. There was only one other couple there when me and my husband arrived and it took a while for the server to come over and ask if we wanted drinks. By the time he did, several other people had arrived, and they all got their drinks before we did. It even took forever to get our drinks; we could see them dying at the bar waiting to be ran. I'll be honest, the service wasn't the best, it was obvious the server might have been newer in the sense of experience with a large party. He was very friendly and had a great demeanor but was extremely forgetful, which he mentioned several times. Once everyone was settled, we started with Appetizers. The Goat Cheese Fritters, with Bacon Date Aioli, Honey and Parsley are always my go to. They are small little goat cheese balls deep fried to perfection and delicious every time. For dinner we shared the Bone-In Pork Schnitzel that has a Tonkatsu Glaze, Sauerkraut, charred lemon and Japanese potato salad, and a side of mac n cheese. The Pork was extremely dry and flavorless and there was no glaze on it. The mac n cheese was just okay. One of my friends got the Braised Short Rib Adobo (brown beech & crimini mushrooms, creamy risotto) and let me have a taste. Let's just say I was extremely jealous I chose the wrong entrée for dinner, it was so good!

DRINKS: This is a fantastic BTG list with many excellent options for sparkling, white, and red wines. Trefethen Cab for $30 all day with the myriad of dry-aged steaks offered here! The bottle list doesn't disappoint either as it showcases a medium selection of options, which cover a little bit of everything while having a New World focus. Finally I made it to the cocktails and loved the focus on some absolute classics with Manhattan, Boulevard, Vesper, Sazerac. Then you see the seasonal section where their Amaro cocktail creations really shined! FOOD: The appetizers are all wonderful, the crab cakes are about the crab, the bone marrow while not my favorite is good, the steak tartare is divine, and the oak-fired heirloom carrots are without a doubt slept on. Now I did love the Lobster Bisque presentation but I have had better if I'm being honest. Then I thought... for being a steak house they sure give you a lot of reason to not order a steak ! The organic Chicken Picatta is wonderfully executed, The Whole Roasted Dover Sole Meunière stays classically French and is a great fish entree where steak is the headliner. But if you are getting a steak it's definitely going to give you a super-star performance. The steaks here see 35/45 days of dry-aging and the Fred Linz Heritage or A5 Wagyu is the way to go without a doubt! Every steak was cooked perfectly medium-rare and the Red Wine Jus was my favorite personal sauce while others preferred the Bourbon Peppercorn. However, if you truly want to indulge get some of the bone marrow butter and put that on your steak..... your tastes buds will thank you. DESSERT: The dessert list gives you a respectable selection with the Bourbon Bread Pudding being a must try! I also always appreciate a good sorbet option but I must say the chocolate cake is rather underwhelming... however that Raspberry coulee it comes with is awesome so it kinda redeemed itself. The waiter recommended to ask for more on the side. SERVICE: The waiters are all abundantly professional, performing at a level of service you'd expect from a modern high-end steak house. The recommendations made were excellent while their knowledge of not only the menu but the wine list was appreciated. OVERALL: Absolutely would recommend Repeal for a special date night, Business dinner, or if you're wanting to treat yourself to a high class experience in downtown Louisville.

The interior is beautiful and comfortable. We were given some bread at the start that had a beef tallow candle. Yes! It was a super cool start to the meal. I got the horseradish creme fraiche for it, but it really needed nothing additional, it was that good on its own. My side was the Caramelized Brussels Sprouts (fried with bacon, candied pecans and finished with aged balsamic). If i had anything negative to say about our time here, it would be this dish. I adore brussels sprouts and this was too heavy on the balsamic and oil. I probably would not get this again, but thats OK! There are like 10 other options to choose from! The old fashioned was a miss for me and two others. We switched to wine. Oddly sweet, bitter mix off and not enough bourbon. My glass of Malbec was much better but it took so long to get I that I drank most of it after dinner. We got the meatball appetizer as well as the one described as an empanada. Most of us enjoyed them. I thought both lacked flavor and wouldn't order them again. The bread - amazing! My steak and frites were good and I ate it all. I'm so happy I got the sauce on the side - that would've ruined the flavor. A bit fatty but filling. Others didn't enjoy their steaks as much - one requested medium rare came almost well and had to be exchanged. Another steak was described as oddly tough, another said it wasn't too fatty. For a steakhouse, it should be the main feature. Service was professional and friendly... and also incredibly slow. I was at dinner over 3 hours and we didn't have dessert! We had long pauses between visits to the table, even in the beginning when we wanted drink orders. The space is also very loud. I strained to hear my co-workers at dinner and my head ached at the end of dinner. That's too bad because the vibe of the restaurant is cool and modern, but I also want relaxing. Based on this visit, I wouldn't bring folks back. It's too expensive to recommend even I choose to visit myself.
