If you're looking to make it a special celebration, order the balloons! You'll get dozens of colorful balloons scattered to welcome you! Kelley in the Crooked Cabana was so friendly and thoughtful, serving us drinks and snacks poolside. We requested massages (2 weeks in advance) and a truly gifted woman welcomed us and worked our muscles, followed by a grand soak in the hot tub. The hike to the wooden gazebo was just right for us (not too hard for us); maybe next time we'll hike to the bottom of the falls. If you are looking for peaceful, quiet, romantic, serene, this is for you. We made a fire in the shared area outside, poured a glass of wine and watched while younger couples played cornhole, etc. It was our anniversary so I ordered chocolate covered strawberries, cheese tray and champagne for the room. We knew there were very few restaurant options in the area so I brought some containers of good soup to microwave and enjoy in the screened porch (our cottage had one). If you want to feel like you've gone on an exotic trip without the airports, baggage claim, and headaches, this is the place for you. We were there in late August but I bet fall is gorgeous with leaves, and earlier in the summer you could "live" at the pool with floating lounge chairs and trees to offer late afternoon shade. Oh, and the restaurant in town that's open most nights is Chappi's. My husband had the hanger steak cheesesteak and it was phenomenal, as was my burger and handcut fries.

We couldn't quite figure out how to dial in their cabin's TV to watch the ball drop, but the vibes were immaculate, regardless. Somewhere after 1am, we scrambled down the hill from their cabin to ours, and I nodded off to sleep appreciating a symphony of sounds, both familiar and not: the quiet crackle of burning logs in our cabin's small fireplace, the creak of the stove as it heated, the rustle of tree branches outside our drafty window, and the patter of rain on the roof. Camptown offers a pretty special kind of experience in the Hudson Valley. It's a delightful alternative to the sparse overpriced hotels or AirBnBs with excessive cleaning fees. Essentially, you're glamping in cabins, but with some classy bonus amenities, including a sauna, help-yourself canteen, and shared firepit. As a bonus, Casa Susanna is their on-premise restaurant, and this James Beard semifinalist is undeniably award-worthy. These aren't the most glamorous luxury cotttages you might find, but I felt their prices were absolutely reasonable for what you get. And the service was really top-notch. Everyone we interacted with was super friendly and responsive, even coming by to help us light our fireplace when we struggled to figure out how on our own. It's great to know Camptown is a solid housing option in the area -- and I genuinely can't think of anywhere else I'd rather stay if I'm visiting this part of the Hudson Valley.

ORIGIN: Camptown Catskills is a restoration and reimagining…read moreof the mid-century Rip Van Winkle Motel, as envisioned by Ramshackle Studio designers Ray Pirkle and Kim Bucci in collaboration with Mountain Shore Properties. It opened in 2023. LOCATION: Camptown Catskills is located in the rural town of Leeds, New York (population around 377), alongside County Road 23B, and just off Interstate 87. CONCEPT: Camptown Catskills is a restored motor lodge (formerly Rip Van Winkle Motel). The restoration reinforces the vintage charm of the 26 log cabins, and 24 rooms. The complex feels like an adult camp experience of sorts, with wooden chairs around a fire pit, exterior pool with bar, scattered wooden picnic tables, books to read, and a dining lodge (Cafe Susanna). Forgot something or don't want to leave the complex? There is a pantry filled with goodies such as s'mores kits and refrigerated cans of craft beer. Camptown Catskills an ideal destination to relax and explore. AMBIANCE: The complex is evocative of the region, with native plants and trees lining narrow pathways to the cabins and outdoor facilities. Cabins have a mix of original and mid-century-inspired fixtures, furniture, and surfaces (e.g. linoleum flooring, wide pine paneled walls and ceilings). The work of local craftspeople can be found throughout the complex. EXPERIENCE: The receptionist in the lobby reviewed all the complex's features, and provided a paper map for reference. Metal keys with leather evergreen tree cut outs were provided, adding to the mid-20th century experience. As we walked towards the log cabin the smell of the fire pit permeated the air, and set the tone for a relaxing weekend in the Catskills. Chairs on the porch of the cabin allowed further enjoyment of the distance fire pit and surrounding Hudson Valley landscape. Complementing this, an upholstered dining nook and a seating area can be found inside. The bathroom was supplied with handcrafted soap and custom woodsy-scented shampoos in the shower. Numerous windows with drapes surrounded the pine wood-lined cabin, inviting streams of sunlight throughout the day. TIPS: Cafe Susanna, located in the main building, offers breakfast on the weekends only. Gracie's, a popular diner just down the road, is an attractive option on weekdays, offering guests views of the Catskill Creek that flows below. To fully embrace all things Catskills, consider visiting Olana, the former estate of a Hudson River School painter Frederick Church; the former home of his mentor, Thomas Cole; the vistas they captured via the Hudson River's Skywalk; and Kaaterskill Falls. Several electric vehicle charging stations are located in one of the parking areas. Coffee is served in the lobby in the morning. A small Catskills-themed gift/momento collection can be found on shelves in the lobby, across from reception desk.

The cabin we selected included a queen bed, a table for two, a small kitchenette, bathroom, and AC. The outdoor space was really the highlight, featuring hanging lights, a picnic table, a firepit with three bundles of wood, and a hammock. Check-in was done virtually, with a code texted to your phone. When we entered the cabin, we were greeted with a personal note, a box to store away phones, and a snack package that included a s'mores kit. The cabin itself was small but had all the essentials. They really encourage disconnecting from technology. There's no TV, and they provide a designated box to put your phones away so you can be more present in nature. That said, I was happy to see there is Wi-Fi available if you need it. We spent most of our time outside enjoying the firepit and relaxing in the hammock. It felt peaceful, cozy, and different from our usual getaways. This was a completely novel experience for us and one we would absolutely do again!

We honestly weren't sure what to expect, especially because we were bringing our 80 pound Doberman. We ran a bit behind so we arrived a little late but the campground was so serene and quiet and we were pleasantly surprised to see that the bed was definitely large enough to fit all 3 of us. The kitchen came fully stocked with all the supplies we needed to cook the food we packed, but having a grocery store only 6 minutes away was so helpful when we realized we forgot a few minor things. We had access to WiFi the whole time and never lost connection. My husband was surprised at how fast the WiFi was since we both had to take a few work calls during the day. You can definitely see your neighbors but they are somewhat far enough away that it won't be a bother, unless they have a loud dog. Overall, we had an amazing time and we were able to do some golfing at Island Green and get a hike in to see Kaaterskills falls. We'll definitely check out another Getaway location!

We've been to a lot of restaurants and it is hard to make things unique anymore, but wow this food was unique. Everything was a hit and I wish we could have ordered everything on the menu. The trout was cooked perfectly with a perfectly creamy (non dairy) sauce, crunch, and salt from the roe. The soups were flavorful and unique. And the bread with dips were perfection. So far, this is our favorite restaurant in the Catskills and we will definitely be back!

The food was good, although not particularly memorable. Unfortunately, there was one issue that really affected my experience. The peppers that came with my steak were extremely spicy, and I was not warned about them at all. I took a bite, started choking, and barely managed to swallow it. It was so hot that my mouth was burning, and it upset my stomach so badly that I eventually had to get up and leave the restaurant. I think the staff should definitely warn guests when something on the plate is exceptionally spicy. Aside from that, the service was great and the setting is beautiful, but this experience definitely put a damper on my dinner.

Long story short: This place is amazing!…read more Long story: Everything about this place seemed to good to be true when I read the reviews but to my surprise Hotel Mountain Brook hit every one of my expectations. First off, the location. It's located right off the main road through Tannersville and is perfectly perched right atop a hill, so you're surely gonna capture some great views of the mountainous landscape. The place itself is so incredibly quaint and gives off the homey and warm cabin/lodge feeling. There's only about 20 rooms/cabins to reserve so the staff to patron ratio is very good. And it shows because the staff went out of their way to communicate with everyone and have a friendly chat. It's run by a two people, Sarah and Ryan, who were always around for help. And they were incredibly polite! The rooms themselves were DOPE. Great views, and warm even in the 15 degree weather. The bathtub jets worked so well to my surprise which was great for a jacuzzi like dip after a day of skiing at Hunter Mountain. And the perks! The common space had a game area with an entire wall of DVDs you could take to your room and watch. And if you got hungry or thirsty, there were all sorts of snacks, hot drinks, soda, coffee, you name it, all available in the common space - on the house. Breakfast was every morning, 8-10am and the selections were plentiful. The staff would approach your table or wherever you chose to sit and tell you what was on the menu for the morning and they would prepare it FRESH and bring it out to you. I gots more to say but this should be enough to convince you to pay a visit here next time you're planning a trip to the area!

(Cross posted to Trip Advisor.)…read more My husband and I just returned from a long Thanksgiving weekend away at the Woodstock Country Inn. From my first night there I was already wondering when we could come back. The house itself is lovely, and each room has a private porch or terrace. It's so peaceful and quiet and set back from the road by a long driveway, so it feels like a true retreat. We opted for the White Room, mainly for the king-size bed, and we loved it. Even though it was cold, we spent a good deal of time on the terrace just gazing at the mountain vista. I've been to yoga retreats where I didn't feel as serene and relaxed as I did on this trip. Also, if you have allergies, this is THE PLACE to book. I have really terrible allergies to dogs, cats, etc. and when I looked at the reviews for other Woodstock B&B's, almost all of them mentioned a proprietor's cats and/or dogs or being dog-friendly. I was so thrilled that this B&B is known for being hypoallergenic and not allowing pets. I knew I wouldn't have to deal with down pillows or comforters either, to which I'm also terribly allergic. The bed linens were clean without that antiseptic/bleach smell that's also an allergy trigger for me. I just felt super comfortable the whole time, which is so rare for me at any hotel or B&B. Carol, the owner, is absolutely lovely and a treat to talk to. I'd honestly love to spend more time with her and hear more about her life. And her assistant Tara (also lovely and a treat to talk to) made us a wonderful breakfast each morning, even picking up my requested goat cheese for my omelette! The drive into town is about 10 minutes or less, so you get the fun of being close to Woodstock with the serenity of a set-back farmhouse in Bearsville. We definitely want to come back in the summer when the saline pool is open!
