It is not only clean, but also has super cool decor inside and outside! Owners Rob and Robbie are the best. They are professional, very personable and are two seriously amazing cooks!! The breakfast was SO on point. They provide a very nice assortment of options, and you leave that breakfast table feeling quite happy and satisfied. I also like the fact that they have chickens laying the fresh eggs we ate each morning. That was a real treat. The surrounding area is beautiful and there are lots of resources at the Inn to guide you with things to do. I truly loved our stay, and will definitely stay again. There is absolutely no other place with better value. As seen in all other reviews, Barry could not be a better host. He gave us detailed recommendations on everything we asked for, and even called a bar, Helsinki, to check if there were any tables left as this place has minimal standing room (only he knew this as he is the expert on everything in town). Then, again we booked last-minute train tickets back home and gave him just 20 minutes notice. Barry insisted on making us breakfast-to-go and driving us to the train station there even though we had time to walk. In just 5 minutes, Barry made us the most savory yet simple sandwich (which was the topic of conversation for part of the train ride back.) His breakfast was the best meal we had during our entire weekend in Hudson - 100% fact. Eating breakfast outside on the porch was one of my favorite parts of the entire trip. Location is walking distance from the best shopping and food in Hudson, as well as Amtrak. If anyone else is looking, this is the only place I'd recommend.

My boyfriend and I spent the weekend here for our anniversary, figured a nice quiet 'country' escape from NYC/Long Island was up our alley. We couldn't have chosen a better place - even despite the rainy/misty/over cast weather. We arrived late on Friday - I called ahead and Mary let me know we're welcome to stroll in at any time. She gave us tips for finding the place so late at night and let us know she left all the lights on in our Eco Cottage so we'd have no trouble finding it. Once we pulled in the driveway, we walked around the main house to find the cottage ready for our arrival - and with fresh cookies to boot! From what Mary has told us, the Eco Cottage is fairly new - I honestly didn't find many images online except for on their blog. But it was the perfect size for two, had a sink, hot plate/tea kettle thing for hot water/coffee, old school radio, blow dryer, fan, AC, heater, and place to hang up and store clothing. The bathroom had an odor free composting toilet and shower (with walls made of chalk boards from a school across the river!). Also handmade soap and eco friendly shampoo and conditioner. Each morning we had a delicious, hearty breakfast prepared with fresh eggs/produce/etc. straight from their farm. On Saturday, Mary asked if we had plans for the day (which honestly due to the weather, all of my initial thoughts went out the window) and then suggested several things in the area we should check out. Ended up going to nearby Chatham for their October Feast and finished the day at the Hudson-Chatham Winery with a wine tasting. For dinner, we went to Wm Farmer and Sons in Hudson, due to their specialty in mixology (highly recommend), however another couple this weekend suggested Local 111, 5 minutes away in Philmont. Sunday morning we went to go see the pig, chickens and cows on property, practically next to the house, and met Mary's two dogs Cree and Mr. Shivers - super friendly, small, adorable. Enjoyed another amazing breakfast, packed up our things, and headed out. For anyone looking for a true, home away from home experience - I highly recommend Thyme in the Country. Mary was a fantastic host, our room was perfect, the whole weekend was peaceful and quaint. Really looking forward to coming back in warmer weather to make use of their pool! Note: there is no refrigerator in the Eco Cottage, we had purchased cheese while in Chatham - asked Mary and she had no problem putting our cheese in the fridge in the main house for us.

What a gem of a place…read more We were looking for someplace rustic yet refined- and this was the perfect blend of both. Perfect weekend getaway. And we were treated to an amazing jazz band on Friday night! No front desk everything is handled by text it call and that worked just fine for us. Very responsive and helpful. The rooms do not have TVs or mini fridges- but you aren't here anyhow to watch TV. Really comfortable bed and perfect for a peaceful nights slumber. The property is beautiful - plenty of hiking and walking trails. Great locations and amazing views. Do not overlook the stagecoach tavern in the property for dinners- I'll review that separately. Breakfasts were amazing and the same superior quality as the restaurant. Best food we have had in a long time. The staff is more than happy to accommodate you in the private sauna or an outside fire with smores! Looking forward to our next trip here.

Booking/ pricing/ management: We stayed a night at the Race Brook Lodge to see a concert a little while ago. At first glance, a stay here looks a little pricey based on what you appear to be getting. In my head, $200 for a small room in a converted barn is steep. When I went to book it, I was asked to select a "package." There was one advertising a nights stay, a three course dinner in the Stagecoach Tavern, and breakfast the next day for $185. I thought since dinner and breakfast were included, that wasn't such a bad deal after all. Total cost after taxes and fees when I hit the purchase button: $201 Imagine my surprise when I got my confirmation email and took a look at the receipt- $309. I quickly looked at my credit card statement, sure enough- $309. I sent them an email immediately asking what was up with the extra $108. Crickets. Oh well, I figured I could just hash it out with them when we got there. I came to find out that there is no front desk, and everything is handled over text messages, so that made it a little more difficult. When the time came to check out, I got a text asking me to click a link to view my "balance." I clicked it and discovered that they were attempting to charge me another $92. At this point I sent them another email and told them that this felt like a scam, and that I would be disputing the charges with my credit card. They responded right away saying that there was a miscommunication, the "package" was actually separate from the room charge and that they were supposed to let me know of that right after I booked, but someone dropped the ball. They did eventually honor the original $201 price that I was quoted, but if I hadn't noticed the discrepancy or been firm about fixing it, I can't imagine they would have refunded it by themselves. Sidenote: when looking closely at the dinner/breakfast package pricing- it's an absolute ripoff. "Package" dinner: $150 Meals Tax: $10.50 Billed gratuity: $24.00 All in- $184.50. For ONE person. For dinner and a middle of the road buffet breakfast? The "three course dinner" allows you to pick any starter, entree, and dessert from the restaurant menu. If you picked the three most expensive items in each category, it would be $104. Plus a $15 breakfast, you're still not even in the neighborhood of $150. I suppose selecting the meal package bestows on you the honor of donating an extra $31 to the owners of the lodge. Great deal! The Room: We were happy enough with our room. It was nothing special, but it had air conditioning, hot water, and it was clean: really my only three boxes that need to be checked by a hotel. The photos on their website appear to be from 2017, which made me a little weary, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the room actually looked better in person. We stayed in the Hayloft #7 room. The concert in the barn: The concert we saw was EXCELLENT. The barn is an amazing venue for a small show like the one we saw. Everyone was giving each other a respectful amount of space, and there truly was not a bad view to be found anywhere. It was hot inside the night we were there, but when it gets to be a little much, you can just step outside, grab a glass of water and some fresh air, and come back in and still have an amazing view of the show. As far as concert venues go, it doesn't get much better than that. All in all, I can't recommend staying here. I'd go see another show in a heartbeat, but would look elsewhere for accommodations. Our time at the lodge was pleasant enough, but the funny business with their pricing left a really bad taste in my mouth. At my most charitable- I'd say it's bad bang for your buck. At worst, the pricing is intentionally ambiguous.

The shop is very well curated. We stayed in Room 5 which has a private deck off the room that my husband used every morning and evening. It's the room with the beautifully updated blue bathroom. The only thing missing from the room and the bathroom was brighter light - our eyes no longer perform as well in dim lighting! What a gem. This was a unique peaceful getaway. We had…read morevisited as a family many years ago. The back deck is open to the public. The kids waded in the Hudson River. There was a group of lively people going in and out of the building. They offered to take our picture and they told us they were staying at the light house. STAYING!? Yes. Staying , as in sleeping in beds inside; using the facility ... SPENDING the night. Wow. I needed to find out how to do this. Later on I joined their email list... And forgot about it. Fast forward to last summer. I got an email at 9:03am from the Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy informing me that next week- they had a cancellation and and opening for a single night's stay. That room was booked at 9:08! And my husband, the Fast n Furious franchise lover- the "I only tolerate nature walks" guy was, unbeknownst to him about to spend the night... in a light house. Begrudgingly. Drive up. Park in the small lot and walk though the fence which leads to a trail. The hike is short but time your arrival with the tide , or you may have to wade though some of the river water. The building is historic so History buffs would love it. The stairs have a pleasant creak to them. The living room has books about the area. The hall upstairs has a shelf with more books and games for Kids. No phones or televisions. Heaven. There is a room designated as a small Museum which documents the history Of the lighthouse. Our guest room was enough. We had two different window exposures, one of them looking right over the river. The bed was only a full size - a bit cramped for a big guy and his wife. But hey! I am sleeping in lighthouse sooo I don't care. There is a gracious innkeeper who lives onsite in a separated part of the house. The back deck is boat shaped and has a series of beautiful wood tables over looking the Hudson River. It was mid- afternoon and we had the place all to ourselves when we checked in. We had packed a lunch for the patio. The day was beautiful. When you sleep in a lighthouse you get a key. It gives you access to the house and the ladder which leads up to the actual light and the 360 degree views of the area. Nearing sunset, We climbed up and were able to look down at people who were on the deck. Some of them looked up at us confused as if wondering how we got up there? We had the key! It was a beautiful sunset. I stayed up In the glass enclosure until the light turned on. Since our room windows were huge and we left the shades up, I awoke at dawn and to the sound of the waves lapping outside. A few minutes later I heard voices and when I looked outside there were some fisherman passing very close to us in a small boat. So close I could have had a conversation with them from my window. The innkeeper cooked us a breakfast of French Toast with strawberries, eggs, juice and coffee. It was just all so pleasant and quaint that I didn't want it to end. We had to checkout two hours early because my husband had to get to work. Overall I loved every minute of it. I slept in a Lighthouse. I can't believe I got the chance.

For me,…read morethose opportunities are few and far between so when it happens, it leaves an impression that I'll carry and remember fondly for a long while. My darling boyfriend surprised me with an impromptu weekend trip to the beautiful Saugerties Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast a few weeks ago. He'd been stalking their website months prior, never finding any openings, but alas, thanks to a last minute cancellation and some impeccable timing, he was able to snag a night for us at this charming BB. The lighthouse only operates as a BB on Thurs-Sunday, and it's open all year round. Reservations must be made months in advance so if you want to visit during a particular season, I suggest to start your planning two full seasons prior. The drive up was scenic and lovely. We downloaded some podcasts and had goggle maps lead the way. We chose to avoid tolls and that increased our ETA by 15 minutes but it was great, and only took about 2.5 hours to get there! The lighthouse has a shared fridge for its guests so we brought food with us for the stay, not knowing what to expect, but it turned out not to be necessary because we found some really great farmers markets along the way, and bought more food than we needed. The lighthouse also has a grill that guests can use, as well as nearby restaurant options. Make sure you bring your rain boots if you plan to go with the restaurant option for dinner, though. The tide comes in when the sun goes down so you'll have to waddle through some shallow water along the route from the lighthouse to the parking lot. It's pretty amazing to see, so also make sure to bring your flashlight, too! We also saw huge, gigantic boats glide right by our room at all hours of the day. They were incredibly close, I felt like I could almost touch them from the window. And listening to the waves crashing down as I fell asleep was truly entrancing. Breakfast was amazing, too. The inn-keeper made us the most delicious French toast, yogurt with fresh organic strawberries and fresh tapped maple syrup with fresh squeezed orange juice. The bathroom was the only feature that I would change. Don't get me wrong, it's very clean and I love the products they use; all natural shampoos, soaps and conditioners, but they use stored rain water for the sink and showers, and don't have a flush toilet... But then again, maybe that's all part of the charm. I loved every minute I spent up here with my best friend.
