We enjoyed the old movie and music theme in this updated prior rectory. After spending the last several years of travel in hotels and Airbnb's, we have come to remember how personal and inviting B&Bs are. This particular one, however, is one of the best. The BB is two blocks from Warren Street for quick access to restaurants and shops. There is also a retail shop on Warren Street where you can spot many of the unique items from the house. The shop is very well curated. We stayed in Room 5 which has a private deck off the room that my husband used every morning and evening. It's the room with the beautifully updated blue bathroom. The only thing missing from the room and the bathroom was brighter light - our eyes no longer perform as well in dim lighting! We spent most of the mornings and afternoons on several hikes throughout the area - all of them peaceful and beautiful. The waterfalls at the end were stunning.

The breakfasts in the morning were banging yummy. The rooms were quiet, quaint and well appointed. Great bathroom products and the bedding was super. Decor is very music and movie oriented which was also fun. Here's a pic if breakfast bacon grilled cheese topped with eggs Benedict and local tomato salad.

The house is historic and has tons of charm and character. The real highlight was Barry. He's accommodating and friendly. I stayed in the queen room for one night and definitely recommend. There is absolutely no other place with better value. As seen in all other reviews, Barry could not be a better host. He gave us detailed recommendations on everything we asked for, and even called a bar, Helsinki, to check if there were any tables left as this place has minimal standing room (only he knew this as he is the expert on everything in town). Then, again we booked last-minute train tickets back home and gave him just 20 minutes notice. Barry insisted on making us breakfast-to-go and driving us to the train station there even though we had time to walk. In just 5 minutes, Barry made us the most savory yet simple sandwich (which was the topic of conversation for part of the train ride back.) His breakfast was the best meal we had during our entire weekend in Hudson - 100% fact. Eating breakfast outside on the porch was one of my favorite parts of the entire trip. Location is walking distance from the best shopping and food in Hudson, as well as Amtrak. If anyone else is looking, this is the only place I'd recommend.

Hudson itself has great shops and impressive restaurants, but the breakfast at the Inn (pastries, granola, yogurt- all homemade- and fresh pressed juices) is also not to be missed. Our stay was wonderful and something she remembered with fondness for (sadly) the rest of her life. The handmade breakfasts felt to us like they were made exclusively for us and all were excellent. The suggestions for visiting the area homes of Frederick Church and Norman Rockwell was especially welcome to me as an artist as were a couple of other highlights of the trip. The Inn itself was immaculate, well appointed and felt period correct. I wish I had luggage large enough to take the purloin the Jacobean chest from my room and smuggle it back to Texas. If I lived in NYC, which I am glad I don't, I would figure out a way to spend many weekends here. I have traveled extensively through all 50 states in the last 50 years, stayed in cheap hotels and spectacular resorts so I think I know a thing or two about quality and The Inn at 34 is at the top of my list. I acknowledge that satisfaction is a relative thing depending on two things, the facility and you. I can only state that I give The Inn at 34 five very large stars. Given only five stars to choose from I cannot recommend it any higher.

I booked a room here, and I was glad I did. The home was originally built in (circa) 1810, and appeared to have received its fair share of upgrades over the centuries. It had a unique feel to it, a connection to its past. I stayed in the Edward room. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The door opened unto a porch and the backyard area, which was landscaped with stone. The big plus was the gas fireplace in the bedroom. There were also some nice decorative art pieces around the room. David, the proprietor, was a great host, cook, and just a very interesting person to talk to. The default breakfast is vegetarian, but he had no issues with preparing a delicious vegan alternative for the two days I was there. In addition, I met some very interesting people who were also guests of the house. They were very nice and I had a great time speaking with them. There is a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker in the common area. The town itself is a somewhat quiet New England town with Warren as its main street. There are antique shops, art galleries, a few bars and eateries, and a great view of the river and mountains just a block from the B&B. After a couple of days, I found myself ready to get back to the city, but the time I spent there was worth it.

I stayed in the Edward room which is spacious, beautifully decorated, with a huge comfy bed. The room was billed as having porch access. What that means is that the room opens out onto a back porch overlooking a small yard below. It was very nice to sit outside and read. 26 Warren is at the far end (beginning) of Warren, but just a few blocks walk to restaurants, and a few blocks the other way to some nice park areas. Overall, a very nice experience. I would go back.

Great little Marriott Boutique Hotel. We were visiting…read moreHudson, New York to see Olana the estate of Frederic Church. "The Wick" fit the Bill for a nearby overnight stay. The place doesn't look like much from the outside. At first, there appears to be only a small parking lot in front. However, there's a large larger parking lot in the back. The entire staff warmly greets you upon check-in. I asked how the name The Wick came about. We were informed that this facility had been an old candle factory. Throughout the hotel, there's silver plated plaques on the candle making machines. Our room was nice and clean. More than enough towels for a one night stay. A sweet welcoming note was left on the dresser along with a mini bag of Tate's chocolate chip cookies. The beds were clean and comfortable. The hotel does have a small bar and dining room for breakfast lunch and dinner. Nothing fancy. We did have a lite dinner the first evening we arrived. The food was pretty good. The vegetable egg rolls were really tasty. The Caesar salad could've done without the anchovies. The anchovy taste lingered too long. I had a side grilled chicken with the salad. All the employees make you feel welcome and are very helpful. The hotel is within, walking distance of the local train and eateries. As we checked out, Abby was a big help filling the plastic container with their Wick logo with lemon water and ice. Definitely would return.

Sure, it's not the Hilton or the Marriott but it's also much better than a motel. Covers the basic necessities, as well as offers iPad and laptop rentals, free wi-fi. Judging from other peoples' reviews, the experience varies in the room they stayed in and I was concerned after booking our room via Trip Advisor, but overall our stay was pleasant and satisfactory. Not knowing the town, at first I expected something more like a bed and breakfast but it's really just a lodging only. One caveat I may put is that the walls tend to be thin thin and some room layouts have the couches + dressers up against an adjoining wall (to our bed headboard) so if you have loud beighbors like we had (group of young ladies partying it up in their room till wee hours), you might get disturbance, but that could be managed if guests were more mindful of time and others, IMO. Otherwise the place is for the most part very quiet.

All in all we felt pampered and well taken care of. So we were really looking forward to staying at their new hotel The Barlow. We checked in then went right out to meet friends for dinner then drinks. When we returned the room was hot - about 85°F. We set the thermostat to cool at 70°F and went to bed. When we woke up the temperature was 83°F. We also noticed that there was no fan in the bathroom - just an open duct and a hose protruding downward from the ceiling. Both were unfinished and apparently we had been given a room where repairs were ongoing. Additionally there was drywall dust on the shower shelf and the lower part of the bathroom door. Finally there was a hole in the drywall under the sink and the places where drywall met the bathtub had not been finished properly. I showered for about 10 minutes then my wife showered. While she was washing her hair the hot water ran out. We decided to mention these things when we went out for the day. Given how immaculate and well run Croff House was we thought the owners would want to know. The young lady at the front desk said she could look into getting us another room (in a way that indicated that doing so would be an imposition) but we declined since everything had been unpacked already. She said she would notify housekeeping about the missed cleaning and told us how to adjust the thermostat to make the room cooler. She also said she would ask the owner about an adjustment to our room charge. Finally she questioned our ability to use the shower and to tell the difference between hot and cold water. When we returned that evening the drywall dust was gone. So far so good. The temperature was back up to 83 though so we opened a window (only one worked - the other was broken) to cool off. Unfortunately we had to close it before bedtime since we were on the first floor overlooking an alley. Another night sweating... At checkout when we were asked how we found our stay we mentioned all these issues. The same young woman from the day before was checking us out and had to be reminded we were not happy. I asked if there had been an adjustment and found there had not. She pointed out that the cleaning had been done and that she thought that had resolved things. When we complained about that she became defensive and argumentative. Finally I told her we expected better and certainly didn't expect her to argue with us. The lack of preparedness for these issues, the apparent defensiveness of Russ' replies to other negative reviews and the failure to get simple things right all spell huge problems for The Barlow. I'd love to see the guys fix this but I will not be back to find out what happens . NOTE: I find it sad yet amusing that Russ included a reply to go see reviews on TripAdvisor, as you'll find this story there as told by my wife. LOL
