The Cat's Meow caught my attention while walking on Bourbon Street because I love karaoke. The bartender seemed to be in a sour mood when we arrived, and let us know that they were not doing anymore karaoke requests (which we appreciated) and would be closing for the night once the current requests were done. I should have took that as a sign not to order a cocktail, but decided to anyway and regretted it. The $10 lemon drop was served about halfway (think lemon drop shot and tasted like Minute Maid lemonade with cheap vodka. I don't recommend. The cute selfie room and vibes as I sang along with one of the girls who chose "What's Love Got to Do with It" made up for the bad drink. Overall, this is a fun stop on the Bourbon Street adventure. I went to the Cat's Meow with a late-night crew of middle-aged writers, after our hotel bar closed. We set out to meet another group that was already at the Cat's Meow, but by the time we reached Bourbon Street, they had vanished. Perhaps they never existed at all. The bar was neon and divey, with live karaoke as its main attraction. I don't tend to fuck with non-Asian karaoke, with singers getting on stage and inflicting themselves on a room full of strangers, but the place was fun, with a loose, festive atmosphere. Plus there was a patio, where the singing was less intrusive and we could hear each other talk. The drink options were limited, but bar service was fast, and I enjoyed a couple of cold Coors Lights. The time went quickly, and we stayed until closing, leaving Bourbon Street with the rest of the stragglers, a hundred of us escorted out by cop in a sort of low-key go-home parade. There's a lot of this night I don't remember in great detail, but I know we laughed like idiots on that patio. People were friendly, service was good place is clean and my wife and I noticed there were lots of cameras around and I just found out they have a 24 hour livecam that anyone can view. Cats meow is a lovely place to karaoke on bourbon street. The security questioned my age because I look super young. Thankful for those who do their jobs well. They give a card to get a free shot with purchase. A nice touch to an overpriced city. They have a lovely outdoor bar as well as an upstairs outlook to the street. They offered a nice selection of songs across genres, giving anyone who's brave enough to hop on stage plenty of choices. She kept on throwing herself on the guys in our party wanting to sing desperately with saying can you call me up there when you get up there we just thought that was strange because she needed to wait on her customers. Worst experience ever. A singer then the dj. Then a singer then the dj. Dj sang every other song. Doubled the amount of time you'd get to sing. Instead of five minutes until you are next after the last singer it's now ten because the dj sang. Think instead of singing in twenty minutes you sing in forty and you have to see the same person over and over. If it hadn't been the dj the singers would have been livid that the same person got to sing every other song. Ruined my new years. I haven't been in ten years and it's trash now. I looked forward to two things coming back and one was this bar. Why anyone would go here anymore is ridiculous and the fact that the owner would think this is a good idea blows my mind. I think any nightlife spot in the French Quarter is going to be a crapshoot, but one's mileage really does vary when it comes to the Cat's Meow. They're a truly mixed bag: part public karaoke venue, part dive bar, and pseudo club when it's really poppin. Overall, I've had equally as many terrible times as I've had good ones here, so it's a bit of a split decision for me. There's no doubt the place is lively and during any night of the week there's going to be a crowd in here cheering on whomever is on stage ready to belt out a tune. The karaoke concept isn't unique, but it is one of the only venues within this part of town that specializes in it. Song choices are actually a lot more limited than I realized and the time to wait can be especially long, especially after 10pm. The sound system is solid and ears will be ringing for anyone close to the stage. The drinks are sort of like their bathrooms: not pretty but doable. No one is coming here for a fancy cocktail, but they do offer the standard well drinks in disposable cups for bar hopping. There is no food served here and outside food will be likely inspected by the staff and dealt with immediately upon entering. I would recommend just coming in, grabbing a hurricane, and feeling the place out. My personal favorite part of this place isn't even the karaoke (#1) but rather the upper balcony where one can people watch over Bourbon like it's Mardi Gras all over again. For holidays, gamedays, and the like, the outside is actually a gathering spot for lots of would-be tourists / visitors. Shenanigans are also likely, but this is New Orleans after all. Lastly, the biggest downer here is the service. Be it the bouncers, bartenders, the KJs, there's always someone rude enough to make folks feel uncomfortable or unwelcomed. Even when the place isn't too packed, I've been met with such grumpiness that I had no desire to stay. The ideal approach would be to not interact with the staff at all, but IDs need to be checked, drinks need to be ordered, and songs need to be sung. I was coming into town for a bachelorette, and initially had an odd number of people so couldn't buy an appropriate package. Though they initially didn't respond to my emails, when they did, Dave Onstead was my rockstar. He gave us some free upgrades and looked out for us. When we arrived, Robert greeted us, brought us cat ears, a shirt for the bride, and beads to throw from the balcony. He later found us and took our picture (and they came out great!) by the backdrop on the courtyard. The vibes were very good and everyone was very excited and supportive. This place probably shouldn't call themselves a karaoke bar- you have to pay extra to get your song boosted to the top otherwise you will be waiting hours/hours to sing your song OR it will be taken by the host. I waited for hours, drank, sang along, and as soon as my name finally made it up to the list where I was close to singing- the HOST started singing my song. So I had to pick another, I had waited long enough I was over it and just left. I try and visit every karaoke bar I can whenever I visit a new spot, this place was a total let down. read more

We were here on March 6th after my ankle was fractured at The Blacksmith I wasn't able to bear weight on my ankle I was able to hobble in to the Cat's Meow where the staff obviously observed my ankle that was the size of a grapefruit and immediately sprung into action. Security sat us at a table and brought me a bag of ice to try and help with the swelling I was beside myself and in tears at this point. After my boyfriend had a couple of beers I was no longer able to bear weight on my leg, we were parked a mile away from Burbon St. So he had me stay put until he made the walk back to our truck the nice staff carried me out and put me in our vehicle so we could leave I can't honestly thank the staff enough here for helping me out in a huge time of crisis lol. But even though the pain it was actually a real fun place that had karaoke going on and they've only been open a couple of weeks so my hats off to everyone here for knowing what to do with a customer who's been injured and needs medical attention. read more

We made a stop at the Cat's Meow for some karaoke at around 2:30 PM. It was fairly empty so my date was able to sing plenty. Our plan was to stop in for a bit then move on. However, we never left! The longer we were there, the more we drank and the more crowded it got. We had a blast!! The performers had fun and we all sang along to all the songs. Drinks were pretty cheap (three for the price of one) and we had Jell-O shots, too. I made several trips to the restroom and it was always clean.
