Well if there is a world famous musical institution in New Orleans, this is the place. Really great talent on display here and the place just oozes history, if the wall could talk as they say. Two big bars one upstairs and one down. Downstairs is the dance floor, and often folks are rocking it out, upstairs a mezzanine with a railing you can lean on to see the shows and also upstairs are some benches to sit when you feel you need to get off your feet. The whole place is a pretty intimate venue for hearing some of NOLA best. If you have tickets be sure to get there early for a good spot! read more

Only in New Orleans can you checkout live music at 7:30am ! The city turns up for Mardi Gras and I'm fortunate to catch some of that 'Who Dat'. This is a world famous live music venue in New Orleans and a great place to catch that local flavor. Drinks were pouring early with various wines, beers and non-alcoholic options available. Tipitina's is a great venue to hear music. Get there early as they really fill up. We also use Tipitina's as our krewe pre-parade costuming and breakfast area. They do a good job. Only complaint are the bathrooms. They need to be cleaner and often run out of towels or soap. read more

Hands down the absolute most disrespectful people (Mary the "Manager") I've ever been around. Intown with my daughter for a "dad/daughter" foodie week. Went to a concert here (5th this week), was told by a local that I was "in their space". Had a drink thrown in me and we were then thrown out by the bouncers and "Mary". For nothing! NADA. Nothing at all. What a bunch of woosies to bow to their "local crowd" as I was told. I will forever and 10-days post this to any place that Tipitina's relates. read more

My favorite live music venue in New Orleans. From home grown new talent to national touring acts, this venue hosts some of the best live music I've had the pleasure to experience. My first visit here was in 1989 before I lived in New Orleans. Now I fortunately live within walking distance of this club. Great venue to chill and watch live music. The bartenders were great. The drinks were strong and packed a punch, but not overpowering. There is an open floor for you to dance. There is no seating, which is NOT a big deal if you're in tune to the music and show. It was not a big deal for me, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It's definitely local friendly and not as touristy, which is a plus in my book. I will definitely come back to check out more live music. read more

Eleven years since my last review for Tip's? Update demanded. I've seen many a great show here since then so that hasn't changed. The sound and sightlines remain superb (I'm partial to watching from above, right where the NKOTB video for The Right Stuff was filmed and I was today years old when I found out this video was shot here, thanks Jen L) and the drinks remain reasonably priced. They have bubbly by the glass (I mean plastic cup), and that's the way I roll these days. And clean bathrooms... at a big music venue?! OK but I was not familiar with these cover-less shows... We had friends in from out of town on Friday and everyone wanted to go to Tips. We were pleasantly surprised by no cover on a Friday night to see the Brass-A-Holics. What a phenomenal show this was, too. There you go. Always a good time at Tip's and if you disagree, well you have to go back. Update delivered! read more

Fun little concert hall with a dive bar feel. On a recent trip to New Orleans, I landed at this spot for the first time. We saw a band called Dragon smoke, and had an amazing time. It's not tough to realize why this bar/music venue is rated so highly. First for the music, the sound system is great, especially for the type of music that play at this facility. The band I saw was jamming all night, Guitar , bass, drums, keyboard, and they were all mixed perfectly. Also, the venue was pretty big, and when the lower bowl fills up, there is an upstairs area. The second draw is the nice layout of bars, and assortment of alcohol they have. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Even though the place was packed, I didn't have to wait too long for a drink. There is also a bathroom situation on both levels so you don't have to walk back-and-forth. Would definitely go here if you are seeing a band you know, or try them out for something new. read more

No visit to NOLA is complete without seeing a show at Tipitina's. As long time fans of the Radiators, we spent two of our six nights here ands came specifically for their show. All tix are General Admission as there is no seating and it was packed wal-to-wall with their loyal fans. There is some bench seating upstairs which wasn't quite as crowded. Advise you to get there early to stake out your spot. Hanging over the rail on the second floor is a great view and not as taxing. Free water on the second floor is a nice touch. We had a blast. We were in town for New Years and 50th Birthday celebration! We were told to visit TipiTina's and were lucky enough to catch theJohn Cleary Band and the Monster Gentleman. Fantastic show! John shared stories about Tipitinas, which was great. The bartenders and the lady at the mercy section were very friendly. Tips is always a great place for music in New Orleans but not one of my favorite venues. They try to fit as many people as they can in the place so there is no seating anywhere, you have to stand all night. It was great for me many years ago but not so much now. read more

At one point during my trip there was a chance I was going to see three separate shows here, destiny only brought me once but the fact that there was so much to choose from speaks to the awesomeness of Tipitina's. I got to see Larry Keel for the first time and man did him and his band put on a great show. The crowd was awesome and as fellow Yelper Joi. B points out, there's really not a bad spot to stand in. Even when I wasn't close I had great views of the stage and I just kept working my way up closer and closer till I was right up front. The crowd just seemed to have a nice friendly flow that had people naturally cycling through. Beers were also not too difficult to get which was nice even with a packed house. I also like that it's a little off the beaten path, which might deter some from coming out but I actually think it's a plus. read more

Great venue. Professionally run. I went to see/hear Mia Borders and Dumpstafunk here. Great sound. Although I didn't walk around much, I saw people all around having fun. Although it was a very well attended event, it wasn't a crushing of bodies. Comfortable. Although everyone was grooving (how could you not?). I didn't have to hang out at the bar to get a drink, the serving speed was pretty darn good. I truly had a great time here, and will visit again..soon. read more

If you like great music, especially LIVE, then a visit to New Orleans is incomplete without making a stop at this venerable venue. A no-frills, standing room only music hall with beers and plastic cup cocktails...it doesn't get any better than this. I so miss these types of places up here in the NJ\NY Metro area where $$$ is what it is all about. Tipi's has been around since 1974 and has had infamous acts like Bootsy Collins, Bonnie Raitt, Galactic, and Dr John among other greats. On our visit (and for a very worth it $20 cover on a Friday night) we caught Dragon Smoke featuring Ivan Neville on keyboard. They were great! Sound system was great!..VERY diverse crowd was great!.... Screw all the pretentious " clubs" with people getting all glammed out, dropping tons of $ on bottle service for nothing in return it's places like Tipi's where you go for a great time, great music, and fairly priced drinks (only $9 for top shelf grey goose & club) I will try to visit every time I'm back in Nawlins read more

It seemed to me anyway that my arrival in New Orleans became official only upon entering this storied little music hall. It is as chaotic and messy as one might expect, and on a busy night one can expect drinks to be spilled down on you from the balcony above, a crowd apparently unconcerned with personal space or possible sexual harassment complaints, and a men's bathroom with the urinal partially visible to those on the outside. It is what it is. That being said, the acoustics were excellent, and the first show I went to see was clearly audible but non-painful throughout the night. Parking on the street might require one to walk a couple of blocks, but this isn't bad (I would suggest sticking to the well-lit Napoleon avenue). Getting a VIP ticket so you can be the one spilling drinks on the poors is probably well worth it if you have the money. The acts they get are certainly are worth seeing, and if you come from afar looking for the distinctive New Orleans mix of passionate artistry and urban decadence, you'll get it. read more

Came here to watch Rebirth perform. Tickets were $27. Bartenders were quick and friendly enough. You can hang out both downstairs and upstairs but there is no seating in either. Super mixed crowd and it was a very fun vibe the whole time we were there. It's a little far from the more touristy spots but worth a visit, especially if a band you like is performing. read more

Dr John tonite, the right place & right time. I've been to this venue many times over the years and tonight was a true highlight with Dr John on stage. At 72 the dude still has the chops. Tips is a singular Big Easy music venue, even more so durig JazzFest weekend. This show was GA @ $40 bucks a throw and doors @ 7p. Opening was California Honey Drippers. Beers are a bit pricey @ $5 bucks per...but they are always cold. read more

The kind of experience that brings you back to your college years, rocking on rock band, hoping to make it to the cool venues featured with roaring adoring local crowds. This spot is a must see if you're into live music, double decker viewing venue, and reasonable drinks (heavy pour, which is great!). Such a great local venue! The crowd is so mix- older music folk, couples, college kids - all swaying and rocking to the beat. The headliner came on 30 minutes late, but man, it was worth the wait. There's a ton of bathrooms for ladies upstairs and downstairs, but only urinals upstairs (more of a trough...), but downstairs has two stalls for boys. Clean! Only complaint were the dumb crowds of girls lobbing ice cubes at their friends downstairs over the railing... read more

Dear Tips, Raising the price of Abita Amber to $5 and the for real imports to $6 is just a rip off and pure greed! I can go to Maple Leaf and most places Uptown and on Frenchmen and get cheaper beer and watch great music. I simply can't afford to pay cover and then shell out $5 for a beer that I can buy for $13 a 12 pack or go to Ms. Mae's up the street and get for $2.50. I've been a VERY good customer for years but I'm not paying that much for a LOCAL beer! I might show up for a few shows but far fewer than in the past and I will be doing all my drinking at Ms. Mae's and not at Tip's during those shows. Maybe if I smoked weed it wouldn't matter so much but I don't and I only like my beer. Y'all have the freedom in our great country to charge whatever you like but the market dictates to me that you are way out of line with the value of what you're selling so I ain't buying no more. $5 for Yuengling is outrageous!!! read more

I had a great time a Tipitina's. I came here with my sister on a Saturday night and I was amazed!! The atmosphere was filled with Tulane graduates all coming together to celebrate their success. Congratulations Tulane co 2017!!! The staff here is very friendly. The door host asked you if you were a graduate and then congratulated you, which I thought was too sweet. The bartenders were reallllllly quick with the drinks. I decided to order something light (Cîroc and Sprite) because Tipitina's was my first stop of the night. I am so upset that I can't remember the name of the band that played last night, they were so good!! The sax player seen in my video was a NOLA legend, him and his son had a little duet together, like c'mon talk about cute! I was shooketh by the bands overall performance! Pretty cool music venue, reminded me of some of my favorite spots back home in Glasgow, Scotland. It's standing room only with a mezzanine upstairs. Expect it to get crowded if you're seeing a popular band. I was there to see Dragon Smoke and by the time they played it was shoulder to shoulder. Plenty of bars, there's one on either side downstairs and one at the back upstairs. Bartenders were quick workers too, so even when it's packed you'll never wait long for a drink. On entry they take ID and tickets, no entry without both. You can't bring in any outside drinks but the bar inside is pretty reasonable - good beer selection, a few wines for $5-7, and mixed drinks. I can see why the locals seem to love this spot. read more

Really enjoyed a small concert here this weekend! Tickets were easy to buy online (though the $5 processing fee was a little steep!) and they made it very easy to just scan going in. The venue size is great, where really anywhere in the house has a good sound and visual, but it's also easy to move up and not so packed that you feel claustrophobic. So many places in New Orleans have primarily cover bands that it's really refreshing to come here and get original music. Drinks are reasonably priced and it was shockingly easy to order at the bar and get a drink quickly- they really have a good system. We will definitely be back! read more
