Today I went to the Saints game and afterwards a friend told me about the "The Fifth Quarter" at Republic. I brought VIP tickets which indicated that I could skip the line and have assess to the second floor. I arrived and there was a long line outside the venue, so I went to the front and showed the security my ticket and he stated there are two different VIP tickets, the one I brought is basically general admission. In which I disagreed because it stated in fine print that I had skip the line privileges. We went back and forth and he finally decided to let me skip the line. The club was pretty crowed downstairs, so I decided to go upstairs. As I'm walking to the stairs I see there's a rope blocking the entrance, so I tell the ladies at the front desk the ticket that I purchased states that I'll have upstairs assess, and she replies that the upstairs is closed and should open shortly. I waited around for about 45 minutes and the upstairs did not open, so I simply left. This place is a SCAM, save your money and go enjoy yourself somewhere else. read more

Terrible service. Reserved a table here and didn't receive any service till 12:50am, almost an hour to get anything to drink. Two hours into the night the music volume was significantly reduced such that those of us upstairs relied on the speakers from downstairs. Really worsened an already difficult to enjoy experience. I had never heard of Republic NOLA until recently when I attended a Christmas Party here. The space is really cute and a decent size, not large but not too small either. I spent most of my time in the balcony area and appreciated the view a lot more than on the first floor. It was spacious and there was a dedicated bar upstairs as well. I tried one of their Christmas themed drinks and unfortunately was not a fan of it. The music was a mixture of a band and a DJ. The DJ was okay, but I felt the music could have been slightly better. Overall, I think Republic NOLA would be a great choice for an event. read more

Thank god I was in town for Emo Nite, is all I gotta say. This place reminds me of venues in Richmond where they play multiple homegrown bands and frequent up and coming out of towners. Acoustics were fine, nothing spectacular. Docking points because this place needs a coat check. Badly. And the service from some of the bartenders could also improve. For some reason, I was under the impression that I hated this place. As it turns out, I don't. My previous attitude toward Republic was, I think, based on a handful of events that I'd attended there with douche-y crowds and not enough people, so the overall vibe made me think I wasn't a fan, and hesitant to go back. Last night, however, I attended an event at Republic that reminded me of all the great things about this place. It's big, but somehow still cozy. There's an upstairs VIP area that has a great view of the stage. There are plenty of bars, and it's got a super classy vibe (which I guess sometimes can attract the common d-bag). Definitely somewhere I'd like to throw an event one of these days. They've also got some great bands coming through, so I'm certain I'll be back soon for a show. Very sad I missed Metric at Republic, because that would've rocked. Suppose I'll have to go to a bunch of upcoming shows to make up for it! read more

Republic is stupendous for events, it's so not my bag as a club. I would rate it a 5 for events/scheduled shows and a 1 for bar/club, so it get's a 3. EVENT: The Bounce Night this past Thursday was epic. DJ Jubilee, Katy Red, Big Freedia, DJ Rusty Lazer and a couple of other amazing acts for $10!!! There is no beating that. I had so much fun and shook my tush so much. Drinks were a reasonable price and the bar was easy to get to the entire night. Loved it. Can't wait to go back. CLUB: A girl I met from Seattle REALLY wanted to go to Republic, but I said, "only if I can get in for free." We walk up, and the bouncer tries to hit us with a cover and my friend does some sweet talkin'. The bouncer then asks if we're from here, and is being all sneaky-like, and then makes us go in a different door than the main door. All very dramatic, if you ask me. We get in there, and it's not really my crowd...at all. Nobody is really dancing, just kind of lounging. It seemed to be more of my friend's scene when it's a club. I wasn't feeling it. EVENT TO CLUB: I went to the Lympho-Maniac 70's party and it was incredible and took over the entire venue. It looked like everyone had an immensely fun time. The second the party was over, bouncers or employees were overly-zealous at making sure people knew it was no longer a party and had turned back into a club. There was another event I went to that I was part of the 610 Stompers group and had been in the private section the entire time with them, till I had to go outside for a second. When I tried to get back to the section, it was like talking to a brick wall when I tried to explain to the bouncer that I had been up there all night. I'm not sure if this is part of their training package, and by no means does this apply to all bouncers. The venue is really eclectic and perfect for parties, so if you get invited to one, don't pass it up! As for going there on any given Saturday, I think I'll pass. read more

Republic is a solid music venue that seems to me like a wee Fillmore, likely due to the chandeliers hanging in front of the stage. Went to see "Bounce IV" here, featuring Big Freedia and Sissy Nobby - probably the most diverse, all-over-the-map crowd I've seen yet in New Orleans. It was refreshing while also somewhat disconcerting. Drinks are on the pricier end for this city, I'm doing a running tally on the cost of Sapphire n soda and at $8 a pop, this is pretty much the most expensive I've encountered. Joining the increasing ranks of smoke free venues, I appreciate my clothes not reeking although going out to smoke while it's freezing and rainy outside kind of sucked. Didn't check out the balcony, but seems like this place could pack it in for a big name act. Finally, I do like the sleek ambiance, it doesn't quite fit the traditional New Orleans music venue niche. Their black couch lounge areas are a nice touch which I imagine would be great make out spots (untested but seems like what they're made for). If I end up making out on one of them someday, I'll up this review to 4 stars. read more

Used to come party here on the weekends in my 20s. Time has definitely flown by! Lol Came here for a show, Purity Ring. The venue hasn't changed much. I think they added more VIP sections upstairs. The drinks weren't that expensive, but then again, I'm not a starving college undergrad/student anymore. Lol. I paid $25 for a Goose and Cranberry, 2 shots of Jameson and a plain cranberry. So approx $7/drink is the going rate. Maybe it was the type of crowd (18+) that night, they were very strict on what you could bring in. I don't remember those rules when I used to frequent the place. Overall, the drinks were strong and cheap; and we had fun that night. read more

Reviewing as a wedding venue: I don't even know where to start - Jessica and the team at Republic were amazing!! We had our ceremony upstairs, with the reception downstairs - along with a Second Line. Jessica + team helped everything run super smooth. The venue is such a departure from a standard wedding venue, which is exactly what we were looking for! We were planning our wedding from California - so we weren't able to meet the team or see the venue before booking (which is very nerve-wracking, but it completely worked out). We opted for the candle package (highly, highly recommend) and the string light package. From last minute changes (adding pedicabs for some people during the Second Line, the day of...) to all of the early planning, it was all taken care of with a smile! We had Jessica help secure the Second Line band (including police escort, permitting, etc), photobooth, catering, linens and decorations. We couldn't be happier with the way everything looked and the day of flowed. One thing to note, the special events team is in charge of many, many things that take place at Republic - each event is a priority to them - so as the time gets closer to your event, the communication will increase. All of our friends and family made it a point to let us know that the venue was beautiful and what a fun wedding it was! Cannot recommend this venue and team behind it, enough! read more

This review is for a private event. It was a great experience from start to finish. We happen to be in the neighborhood one day and Jessica(event sales) was able to show us around on a very short notice. She was very helpful throughout the entire planning process. It was a Christmas party for approx 1000 people and it flowed as smoothly as a 100 person party. I loved their personalization options such as a step and repeat, outdoor lighting and gobo lights inside to name a few. It really makes the party feel special. There is a VIP room with a tv, sofas and private bathroom. The acoustics are great for music and the DJ provided made everyone want to dance. We cant wait to host more events at Republic- very professional and accomodating! read more

It's really hard to judge a music venue objectively, because almost undoubtedly the quality of the performance will influence your view of the space. After experience an amazing show by Stars along with their ridiculously fun opening act Geographer, I was tempted to just give a blanket 5 stars to Republic just for booking them. I was finally able to put on my objective glasses though. THE GOOD Intimacy: What do I mean by that? Well for anyone who hasn't seen a show at Republic yet, it's basically two floors with the second floor being a balcony that overlooks the main floor "atrium" area. This atrium area is TINY, and by my best estimation could fit at most 200 people even when everyone is crammed together. The benefit of this is that if you can secure a ticket to your particular show, it makes the entire experience really intimate even when the band is rocking out. The people in the balcony are literally on top of the band, and even the people at the back of the atrium are only about 10-15 rows of people back from the stage. It almost lends a, dare I say, element of exclusivity to all the shows there. THE BAD Acoustics: So here's the problem. Since it's such a small space, the main speakers have to be placed at awkward positions. At least 4 of them hang directly above the first 3 rows of fans, and there are some poor souls in the balcony areas who are actually standing BEHIND the speakers. I guess they get to enjoy their music experience via sound bounce-back from the walls. You don't notice the bad acoustics as much when the bands play softer songs, but when they start to get amped up and play loud it sounds almost cacophonic. What's worse, at the loudest levels you can barely hear the actual singing. Bad acoustics, bad sound-checking. PURGATORY Not much to see here. Moving on. OVERALL It's definitely worth seeing a show at Republic, iffy acoustics and all. I haven't gone to all that many concerts in my life, and all of them before this most recent one were at big venues. If you're in the same boat as I was, trust me when I say the intimate atmosphere really makes for a fun concert experience. read more

So I have officially been here for two events now. One was for Concrete Blonde concert early this year and the other was recently for a Nola Nerd Nite. For the concert, I had the pleasure of hanging out in VIP, with complimentary bottle service; of course very important. I definitely enjoyed being able to see the shop from up top as I sip. Very laid back and comfy seating upstairs. Waiters were always around making sure we were okay. For Nerd Nite, it was cool! I got to sit downstairs on some comfy couches for presentations. They have a huge screen and all the right equipment for us nerds to have multi-media presentations. This is a good option for events. I had a great experience both times I visited. read more

Ok ok, so I'm going to review Republic as a music venue. In a town full of music venues, I have to say that I dig the place. It's intimate and I was pretty impressed by the sound quality. Now yes, Yelps, intimate is an euphemism for small, but it's small in a good way. The stage isn't too high off the ground and if you get in early (which you should if actually seeing the band is important to you) then you can get right up close and personal to your musicians. I get that the wooden structure makes it difficult to see from all spots in the crowd, but that's how it goes in over half the venues in this town. Not the best views from upstairs but there's a chill loungey area if you wanna kick back. The security was pretty chill, unless you attempted to light up a cig in there, but there was reentry with a stamp on the night I was there during Jazz Fest. They were for reals straight shutting it down on anyone who tried to light up tho. The door folks were cool and fun. The 2 (yes 2) bartenders on our side were hustling their asses off. Still not sure why only 2 at a sold out show, but they kept it straight and got around to you. It was also pretty sweet they had a screen with the feed from the stage to watch while you waited. Why doesn't every venue do this? The bathroom was surprisingly updated and kept pretty clean throughout the night. A big bonus for the ladies since lots of restrooms are just shady AF in Nola. Huge plus in my book. Overall not a bad small venue right in the middle of downtown. Walkable to the Quarter and not a far Uber from Mid-City or Uptown. I'm sure I'll be back if they keep pulling in good shows. read more

The Republic NOLA is definitely a hidden gem for a wedding venue. While we were at first concerned that The Republic wouldn't be "wedding"enough since it is also a concert hall, this was not an issue at all. The space has a classic rustic New Orleans feel (which I call Pirates of the Caribbean chic) with exposed beams and beautiful chandeliers. We did the candle package and they completely decked out each table and other spots throughout the venue with beautiful candle displays. We opted to do this over flowers and this was a great decision. For weddings/events that have a live band, the Republic is ideal because they have a great stage and sound...since it is also a concert hall, the acoustics are top notch which allows the band to be showcased. The Republic is a very spacey venue and could likely accomodate weddings of 200+ people, but our wedding was only 85 and it didn't feel empty. The events coordinator worked with us to design the table set up, dance floor, food stations and spots for our fortune teller/caricature artists to make sure that things were spread out and we made the most of the space. They also offer several different bar package options..we did the cheaper one but that included most of the mid-premium liquor brands. To top it all off, The Republic is also really affordable! I can not express how truly amazing my experience at the Republic was. My now husband and I called a number of venues around the city after we got engaged and I struggled to get anyone on the phone or answer my emails. When I called Republic events and Taylor answered the phone I knew from that moment that was where I was getting married. The venue is absolutely beautiful and exactly what we wanted. Taylor was very accommodating and made planning my wedding easy! We had multiple meetings in person and on the phone. I've been here a few times, mostly for shows and I would have to say overall, Republic is pretty all right. It's a medium-sized venue - so perfect for hosting more popular indie bands and holiday party events. I've noticed they often produce fashion shows here - never been but I can see that working out pretty nicely at here. I remember the acoustics being pretty legit for the shows I've attended here - and the crowd mostly courteous - although okay, those poor underagers may feel inclined to beg you to purchase them drinks and glare at you with intense hatred after you refuse and proceed to attain complete and utter inebriation. I mean, hypothetically speaking . . . The main dance floor is an all right size from what I recall. The no smoking is policy is pretty super - it's about time places in New Orleans gets with the program. The upstairs mezzanine is available for when you want a short respite from the overcrowding - a couch and seating area here and there - but not so sure I would trust them to be too sanitary. As for the drinks - moderately priced, but if you're kind to a bartender (especially at an all ages show) - he or she may be inclined to hook you up a little. Also evidently, this place often receives a pretty sizable crowd from the colleges and Metairie on the weekends - so brace yourself for that. read more

#2: I am under the age of 21 so I have to say that reviewing the entire place as a whole is very tough seeing as I can't drink any alcohol or have a friendly gab with the bartenders because they are busy actually doing their job. So inevitably these reviews are going to be focused solely on the acoustics and aesthetic in the building. If you're scrolling through Yelp to find out if the concert you're going to is worth the 15 dollars you spent and you really want your money's worth then Republic NOLA is the place to be. Though when you first walk in you'll need night vision goggles to see where you're going, soon your eyes adjust and before you lays a massive dance floor and a raised stage. Don't get me wrong I understand dance clubs are dark because it allows people to enjoy the concert lights and the performer more. There are odd-but-very-tasteful chandeliers hanging pretty much everywhere you look. There is a giant bar with two bartenders on the bottom floor. The concert I went to had a massive amount of people standing around the stage and luckily there was an upstairs balcony for all the sober people who were just looking to chill over a railing and listen to some good tunes. Upstairs there's a small bar and way less people. If you're seeing a concert I recommend the top floor because you have an excellent view of the stage and the stairs are very tough to find (through the front door and immediately to your left) which means way less people crowding your jam zone. There's a bathroom also so you won't have to bounce up and down stairs if you can't hold it anymore. All in all it's a pretty cool place. The acoustics are great. There was never a song or even a note that hurt my ears. Everything was perfectly balanced and I could hear perfectly fine the next day. It's the perfect place to enjoy a cheap concert. read more

I really like republic because they work with our medical school group to help support charitable causes. We host two events at Republic each year and they are always a success. The venue is nice, the bartenders are great. The only bad thing I have to say is the floors can be sticky sometimes. Which isn't surprising if because it's a bar, but a little unfortunate for my dance group who sometimes has to touch the floor of the stage. read more

Came here for Lundi Gras and the juvenile/mystikal concert. Place is pretty big (2 levels) and we were up top in the VIP section. Both levels were filled to capacity and the VIP was better as far as having a bar is concern and the bathroom set up. However when it came to viewing and enjoying the concert as a whole, the downstairs was way better. Overall a nice club/ intimate concert venues with standard club prices for drinks ($5-$6 beers and $8-$10 drinks) and good staff overall. read more

Republic is a beautiful venue...but it sucks for seeing a show due to that very same beauty. The wooden pillars obstruct so much of the view, it's frustrating. The balcony area is fabulous...if you're right up on the balcony. I'm 5'10 and my companion at the Run The Jewels show was 6'1 and we couldn't see over the people against the railing. Not bad as a music venue, unless the sound guy sucks and if he does, then it's TERRIBLE...worst sound ever. Saw Neko Case here and she sounded like she was singing over in the corner. Saw Gogol Bordello and the sound was superb, so it just depends on who gets up on the board and how they deal with the terrible acoustics, I guess. The security guys here are security for employees and bands only and NOT for keeping the audience safe/in check, just so you know. Go upstairs if you don't want to be pushed around or trampled at a more raucous show. As a bar/hangout this place is AWFUL. I have never seen so many douchebags and half-nekkid chicks gathered in one place. It is a meat market and a half. After going here more than once when a band ISN'T playing and seeing the same pretty vacant sort of folks...well, I'm sorry, but I just have to say that the Republic is where all the people I don't like go to hang out. It is a gorgeous space, but unfortunately it's wasted half the time on a bunch of creeps. I will say I did win a bar tab gift certificate thing to the Republic and the employees who helped me out with it were super helpful and made sure I got taken care of. read more

The Republic has taken the hilarious step to ban clothing that would be appropriate on "The Jersey Shore" TV show. I can attest that the Republic started to attract the orange-tinged, over-gelled, jagerbomb-drinking set that makes all other demographics run and hide, so they are actively trying to rebuild their trust amongst their core demographic: average underage college students. read more

We went to see the electro, rave, avant-garde band FKA TWGS, the Republic was perfect for it. Dark wood interior mixed with krystal chandeliers created a warm comfortable feel with a dash of glitz glamour. The two floor venue is ideal to see bands. Even FKA Twigs were sold out, we still managed to get a glimpse of the band from the 2nd floor in the second row. I really liked the venue, the bar staff was super friendly when I asked if they carry a cigarette machine (which they don't ) the bar man still managed to get two cigarettes for me and my friend and even first refusing the few $ I tried to give him for his kindness. The venue carries three bars two on the ground floor and one bar is located on the second floor. Regarding the event was very busy we were served quickly by friendly bar staff and the margaritas ($6 each) we ordered were pretty good. Yes, it was a great experience. Check it out !!! read more

We were here last evening for a private event and many of us were saying how much we actually love the space. The downstairs has plenty of room for tables, dancing, a very elevated stage so that everyone in the room gets a good view of the performance (band, DJ, whatever and whomever is up there.) Two bars downstairs on opposite sides of the room allows for flow. The upstairs is really well done - another bar and plenty of seating options, with plenty of room to view the stage. Love that it is non-smoking venue and the sound here is always good. It's a great space. As for the other reviews about the crowds - well, it can be great or it can be dreadful - but that's just to be expected in any major city and New Orleans is no exception. Different music and events are going to draw a different crowd each time. The staff has been friendly at both public and private events I've attended here. The bar selection is solid and the restrooms are clean. Honestly, you can't ask for much more from the venue. read more

The drinks are expensive considering the cover, which is also usually pricey. The crowd here changes almost nightly. My favorite night was Bounce Night. I don't think I've been so bewildered in my life! I also never laughed so hard. Not a good concert venue. Awful visibility. OK sound. After 20 years of going to shows I can honestly say this is the worst venue I have ever been to. My wife made the comment: "it's like Jack Sparrow made a venue, and not in a good way." Huge wooden beams obscure 75% of the crowds view of the stage. New Orleans deserves much, much better. I will likely skip the next shows by bands I like if I see they are playing this venue. I'm not sure why Winter Circle Productions books so many bands here when Tipitina's and The Howlin Wolf are such better venues. read more

The republic is a great place to see/hear music. It is a great small venue. Their website is finally working (it was off-line for quite a while). Check the website and go when a band you like is playing. I did feel a bit old compared to the rest of the crowd (I'm in my late, late 20's--hell, call me 30). The reason for only 3 stars is the lack of seating. The best thing is that if you solve a rubik's cube, you get a $15 bar tab. Score for being married to a geek!!
