Every month I mark my calendar for this day. Catrina's cantina day! I celebrate each month with a round of Catrina-Rita's (a delicious specialty drink) amazing margaritas, delicious salsas, and amazing art! Our waiter was so kind, she was attentive to my every need, once I spilled my water on the floor and she wasn't even mad, Aylin is extremly nice and polite. Adriana was very polite to me too and deserves an award for best server of the year. The atmosphere is amazing, the bar is something out of a movie, cool lights plenty of drinks, TVs, , and the authentic Mexican artwork is so unique and amazing to see. I will be back next month to make another epic review of my favorite Mexican restaurant in the world. read more

Always a great experience. Consistently excellent margaritas and excellent servers that never seem annoyed or angry, just happy to chat and mix a drink. Tried this restaurant as we were in the area. Only go if you have money to burn. My wife ordered a steak taco salad. Very little meat and beans, no rice. All lettuce. $29. Crazy. I ordered a 2 item combo, chile relleno and crispy taco. That combo was not on the menu but I asked if they could make it. Turns out they charged me $26. You could get both of these items for about half the price at any other Mexican restaurant. I will stick to Carmelita's in the future. Stay away from this place unless like I said you have money to burn and it doesn't matter to you.. read more

The service was really good. We got greeted, seated, and had chips and guacamole within 3 minutes of walking through the door! If you're hungry you won't die waiting or at least you'll have something to ease the hunger pangs! It wasn't as flavorful as I like my Mexican food to be. It was good, just missing something. It could've been what I ordered because my husband's food was good! The restaurant was decorated beautifully and probably good for a date night. A few weeks ago we went out to dinner with family. They picked this restaurant. My parents have been here before a few years ago. It was my first time here. Food was very yummy! Friendly and helpful server. Very clean restaurant and beautifully decorated! Looks like a lot of colorful fun art. Almost like an art gallery or blown glass and metal art. What a wonderful gem. Beautifully decorated with HUGE iron/steel structures one does get the feeling of being in a place like San Miguel de Allende! We ordered the HUGE and wondeful Grande Corona-Rita. Basically a huge margarita with a small bottle of Grand Marnier attached which drips into the drink when pulled up. Splendid. We also got the Rock Guacamole which was fresh and flavorful. Already received the warm complimentary chips and salsa. We split the grilled fish tacos trying to stay somewhat healthy and thinking we were getting dessert which we did. Ice cream. The fish tacos were good especially the corn tortillas which tasted very fresh. Comes with rice and choice of black or refried beans. Ample free parking, great service. The food was decent but lacked flavor overall. I ordered three steak tacos (which cost extra), and they came simply with steak, cilantro, and onion--no salsa--which made them taste pretty plain. On the positive side, the guacamole and chips were very flavorful and stood out as the highlight of the meal. The service felt a bit rushed, even though there were only two other customers in the restaurant besides my party of four. The decor was unique, though, with glass balloon-like fixtures hanging from the ceiling, which added a nice visual touch. read more

We saw this restaurant as we were driving down the road and I'm glad we stopped. Love how it's decorated, especially the glass balloons. They have long tables and it would make a great place for celebrations. Our server at the bar, Martha, was welcoming and helpful in suggesting items that didn't have onions due to my fiancée's allergy. Got the guacamole, it was enough for several people. Good but I think they left more than the onions out. Just mashed avocados. I was happy to see Red Pozole on the menu because that's usually reserved for the weekends at other places. I was a little disappointed because some of the pork seemed over cooked, not tender, like it had been sitting there for a long while. Probably should have gone with the albondigas. I stopped here randomly because I was in the area and in the mood for Mexican food. I got the chimichanga and chips and salsa to go. I didn't have to wait long before my food was ready. The salsa had a Smokey taste and I could eat what with everything and be happy. The restaurant had very cool decor inside and out. Outside, palm trees had different colored lights on them. And there were large metal art pieces in the front. The entrance has large wood doors. When you walk in you can see a lot of color and very cool 3D everywhere. I wish I took more pictures but you have to see it in person. There was even art with head cutouts for a photo op. There is indoor and outdoor seating to choose from. Decor is really charming inside and outside this restaurant but beyond that it was a mid-level experience. I took a large party here last week and we all agreed that the food and service were just ok overall. The one exception was the appetizer called GREEN CHILE CHEESE FUNDUEwas excellent. My entire party agreed that the rest of the food was just OK. The portion size on the fajitas was relatively small and expensive, not a lot of meat for the price and an order does not even include cheese. The chips were too hard and pretty bland. Our servers did tend to us, but they did not seem that hospitable or friendly. Pricing was rather expensive, with the mandatory large party gratuity the bill came out to probably $25 or $30 per head. Overall, it's probably not a restaurant I would recommend although it's not a bad place. read more

We visited Carina's Cafe with our family of 10. The service was average at best; our server was not all that attentive. Also, while she was not unfriendly, but won't be winning any awards for Miss Congenitally. I was not really satisfied with the combination plate I ordered. I asked for a beef enchilada and a beef taco. I was surprised that they put sour cream on my taco. They quickly fixed my complaint on that quickly. Also, the refried beans that came along with the enchilada were barely warm. The enchilada was OK. The chips and salsa were good. read more

Honest review - YES! The decor is beautiful... and that is where it ends .. unfortunately these were by far the driest enchiladas I've ever had, the sauce was basically dried / burnt on the tortilla - no extra sauce running on the sides , the beans lacked flavor , I don't know if it was a time of the day, but there was no music playing so it was Erie quiet as there was only 2 tables sat.... For the price a place like Carmelita's has this place beat by miles. Wish we had a better review, but this was what it was. read more

We have tried Catrina's twice now and as much as it's a great location the food is bland and just average. The staff is nice and location and facility is nicely decorated. However, we ordered the fajitas and upgraded to asada. However, we received a plate with 5 x the normal amount of peppers and onions and a few pieces of meat. The tortillas was hard and lacked flavor. The salad was overly mild and the chips were hard and needed a ton of salt. Nice people work there but the food is certainly lacking. read more

Literally the worst chimichanga I have ever had. I ate 4 bites. It was packed with the driest chicken. The outside was barely cooked. Great combination; overcooked inside and undercooked outside. All that for $22. Never again. read more

I want to agree with the other reviewers. The decor is stunning--glass balloons suspended from the ceiling, unique metal sculptures in every room and nook and cranny, an outdoor seating area. The lunch specials are limited. I had the chicken tostada. It was presented nicely, but didn't really say "eat me". It was ok, but I used the very good salsa as a topping to jazz it up. It was a large serving for a lunch special. No sides with this dish. My partner had a combo plate. The refried beans were served in a cute little tortilla cup. I noticed that he piled on the salsa, too. Well, the truth is that the salsa is quite nice. Our server was doing a lot--seating guests, taking orders for drinks and food, as well as serving. She was pleasant, but clearly distracted. Yes, a three and a half or four star place for lunch. Food was adequate, not a disappointment, but not off the charts either. Not much competition for the server's attention. Maybe the evening atmosphere is livelier. And lunch specials are only $12. read more

Ambiance - casual, eclectic with large Latin American sculptures inside and out. Large inside and pario seating. Dog friendly outside. Patio iron chairs are tight (no man spreading here) and loud when they are moved on concrete. A few heaters on the one side of the patio only. Servers - all friendly and competent Food - a little expensive, but we loved it. Her shredded beef tacos were good. My Fajita Pollo was awesome and enough for a 2nd meal. Super fresh, crisp bell pepper strips. Drinks - generous Tequila pours in the Margaritas- premium Tequila and they 100 different ones. We'll be back. read more

I asked for the bill pretty shortly after arriving... We stopped here for a date night, food was just not good. I don't like leaving bad reviews but I feel like I need to warn people before they spend too much money on not great food. You can get better quality for less. Like.. I've never had any Mexican bean dip with onion crisps on top? The salad kind. Wtf is that? lol The margarita was just bad.. My flautas were not great.. after I found them under all the sour cream and lettuce.. I recommend La Popular- $$$ but the quality is there. We had such a great experience this evening. Our family of four stopped in and everything was amazing--from the food to the service. The menu had plenty of delicious options for everyone, plus a kid-friendly section (with crayons to keep the little ones busy, which is always a win!). Surprisingly not crowded on a weekend Place is decor and atmosphere to the max Great service and the place is clean but the food is maybe 7/10 and the price is too much. The rice, refried beans and tortillas could have been better If it wasn't so $$ or if the food was a little better then an easy 4/5 overall. The first thing we noticed was there seemed to be only one waitress. For a minute we thought she was the bartender, too, but then the bartender came back; the waitress was just getting some drinks while the bartender was gone. We ordered and the food came in a reasonable time. There were 10 of us so, considering that, she was excellent in giving us accurate service. However, the mole sauce on my plate was stuck to the plate like it had been put into the microwave. The chicken was dry and kind of tough. None of us was happy with our meal. We usually go to El Tapatia in Citrus Heights but, because we were in Rocklin looking at Christmas lights, we decided to stay there. I ended up giving her a tip on top of what was on the receipt. My bad; I didn't look as we were all in a hurry to get out because they were closing. So she got $108 a $291 bill. A couple of days later when I realized there was already a 20% gratuity added to the bill, I decided not to complain because the waitress was very good and was "working her bottom off". She deserved it. But we will not go back because the food was tasteless and, while none of us left hungry, it wasn't the experience we were hoping for. read more

Love the decor and ambience but the place could use some music and well, life. It was sooooooo quiet in there, even with our large group. The foundation for greatness is there, just need to build upon it. The drinks and food were wonderful, with exception of the guacamole appetizer. Squeeze bag guacamole is always less than appetizing. Service, for being such an empty place, was ok...just a bit on the slow side but the server and bartender were super friendly when they gave you their attention. If you're not in a hurry and looking for some place quiet with good food, this is the place for you. Really truly hope they breathe some life into the business operations though!
