I recently bought a birthday present for my mom's 60th from Catherine Angiel's and having bought jewelry as a present from various other stores in the past, I wasn't expecting the level of pleasant, personal customer service I received when I walked in. The black and purple decorated rock'n'roll chic interior brings out all the shiny jewelry sparkling in the display. It's like the whole store is in a velvet purple jewelry box. Which I thought was a cool touch. I found none of the pretentious, I'm-better-then-thou attitude I received in my previous jewelry shop experiences there. Even though the store was quite busy, I was immediately welcomed by this very nice employee (I forgot her name) who knew what she was talking about. I told her my price range, she showed some options to me, and all the while holding an "actual" conversation that didn't sound memorized or rehearsed. (And I know rehearsed when I see rehearsed) She was not pushy or up selling, which was a relief. Most of the clientele in the store was there because they (just like me) have heard about this little gem of a store. Some of them were returning customers, and they knew the staff's name and vice versa. All the designed pieces were beautiful and elegant, from tough'n'rough stuff to glamourous red carpet stuff, it's all there... But if you go there, definitely check out this amazing line of jewelry which she (Angiel) created with an inspiration from old rock'n'roll/sailor tattoos with black and white diamonds. I wanted the dragon tattoo diamond necklace but I was there to get my mom something (so perhaps I will go back there for the dragon at some point) But luckily (and surprisingly) they also do custom jewelry. I was worried that I couldn't get my mom something within my budget if it was custom made (even though it was her big 6-O) but I was wrong. Catherine Angiel (she, herself!) showed me my options and choices. (It was like having Marc Jacobs design something specifically for you in a Marc Jacobs store) I really appreciated her energy and passion for what she does, and how she approaches it as "art". Yes, perhaps I could have gone to the diamond district and gotten something generic for my mother for less money (and with the impersonal service, the added insult to injury), but I'm glad I didn't, because a) the price difference at Angiel's wasn't that much for the personal design & service you get, even after taxes and fees, which they were very clear about and is expected) but also b) I was buying a piece of art. My mother, needless to say, LOVED the earrings I got her, and I highly recommend this place for anyone out there on the market for a fine piece of interesting and unique present for themselves or their loved ones. (or even engagement or wedding rings, which seemed like they were in high(er) demand now than usual with a lot same-sex couples looking to tie the knot.) read more

My fiance proposed to me on New years Eve and had asked me to go and look for rings in November. I am a designer with very particular taste and he wanted me to have something I loved. I had looked at several different sites and stores and was astonished to see nothing that really moved me and could symbolize something so special as the unique love we share. I was tipped off by a young woman in one of the shops to head to Gallery Eclectic. Catherine's e-commerce site had gone up literally the day before this tip off and I am so grateful because I found my dream ring there and knew it as soon as I saw it! I immediately wrote an email to Catherine (the designer and owner) as the ring was a bit out of price range for us and was hoping she might be able to customize something within our desired budget. Cat replied immediately and asked me to come by and I swung by the store the next day. The gallery is stunning and moody, elegant and edgy just like the precious treasures displayed. Her work is like nothing else I had seen and I was even more in love with the ring I had seen on the site. Katie was a DELIGHT to speak with and Cat came from the studio in the back to speak with me as well and to see what she could do to meet our price. They took their time with me, showing me different stones and settings. Make a beautiful story a little shorter, she worked with us and today I have my dream ring on my finger and my dream man in my life. We made two friends over at Gallery Eclectic who made both mine and my fiance's experience even more beautiful. Cat and Katie were so down to earth and kind and we both left the store feeling confident in our ring decision. I could not have asked for more. We plan to go back for our wedding bands, and I plan to go back to visit as well :) P.S. I had to have the ring appraised for insurance purposes after our purchase and everything appraised perfectly and the appraising jeweler continually complimented on the gorgeous design and stunning stone. I have received so many compliments from others as well. Cat's designs are unique and standout and the quality is impeccable. I could not be happier. One Saturday afternoon my husband (then boyfriend) and I were walking around the village and came across this boutique. After being warmly greeted, we took a look around at all the beautiful pieces in the store. My eye had caught a glimpse at this one particular ring which called out to me. Although I was shy to ask, since I was only dating my husband back then, I couldn't help myself but I had to try on the ring. I immediately fell in love. (I think he did also because the smile on his face was almost as big as mine!). I assume the sales associate picked up on me being shy and didn't make us feel weird in any way. Instead she helped me feel very much at ease while she continued with having me try on some other beautiful items. I left the store, finding myself thinking what an amazing experience. Few months later, when I least expected it, I was engaged... and with the engagement ring that I feel in love with!!! For that I am so grateful as I am still in amazement when I look down at my hand everyday. He tells me now that it was completely meant to be for us to walk in there that day. Since then, we both got our wedding bands and jewelry for the wedding day. I even got gifts for the entire bridal party. They were thrilled... even the boys loved their cufflinks! And my husband continues to add to my collection for every special occasion we have (he knows he can't go wrong with that decision!). I have always been a frequent New York City traveler. My most recent trip was for quite a special occasion, my boyfriend & I came to look at designer engagement rings. A local suggested I stop into Catherine Angiel's Gallery on Greenwich Avenue. I had no idea that I was about to find the most perfect ring that I would wear for the rest of my life! From the ambiance of the shop to the amazing service I received I don't think I will ever go anywhere else for jewelry; I loved everything. About 6 months ago my girlfriend and I were in the City and walked by Catherine Angiel's shop. H got all excited she had seen her stuff somewhere before (I'm not that into jewlery so I was like so what?) fast foward to December. I have seen Catherine Angiel in many fashion magazines and her work always caught my eye. I was in Toronto recently on a business trip and tired from the day, I decided to kick back and veg with the Tele. Flipping through the channels I caught a documentary called 'Women On Top" and there was Miss Angiel and her life story and career. It was inspirational and I knew I had to finally go visit the artist, if not for anything but thank her for sharing her great story. The shop itself is unlike any other jewelry store, it is very cool and the collections are amazing. To my relief the prices vary, so there is something in every price range. I purchased a gift for my partner from her prestigious 'Dangerous" collection but in Silver. When I met Miss Angiel she could not be warmer. I was hunting for a diamond that was reasonably priced, and a mounting that was unusual. My girlfriend is picky, and wisely did not trust my design style She did all of the schlepping, and months of internet searching, and finally went wild over a ring by designer Catherine Angiel. I have to say the ring was really awesome. On my end, I did my due diligence and got a decent diamond education. When I spoke to Catherine Angiel, they had a stone that was in my price range, and was in sync with what I had learned. They were professional, and very helpful, and did a fantastic job on my girlfriends ring. I was very happy with the quality, and service Catherine Angiel provided. I had been doing research on unique wedding bands for a while and after visiting numerous shops in Lower Manhattan I came across Catherine Angiel. My fiancé and I are not traditional, so we wanted wedding rings that represented our personalities. It was easy to make an appointment and easy to find, though it's on Greenwich Avenue not Greenwich street. When we got to the boutique we were pleasantly surprised that Catherine herself was meeting with us to discuss our rings. She was very accommodating and patient, and is very down to earth. I liked that she allowed us to take our time and was more concerned with our overall happiness than just trying to make a sale. It was a breath of fresh air compared to other places we visited. I stopped into Catherine Angiel recently for the first time, and was blown away. There were many collections, all very different from each other and all very beautiful. Her black diamond collections are stunning, and the grey diamonds are too. I am more traditional, but I still like unique work and these designs are truly a breath of fresh air. She has a collection named 'delicate' and it is so feminine and airy. The engagement rings and wedding bands are exquisite. Many have very fine engraving detail you just don't see in todays mass produced world. I purchased a delicate pair of earrings, and I never want to take them off. I was not planning on resetting my engagement ring, but I fell in love with a design called 'Endless'. As anyone who has ever been engagement ring shopping knows it can be a very daunting experience, after weeks of searching, it was an easy decision to buy here. The girls at Catherine angiel made the whole experience simple and comfortable. There was no pushing like other retail stores, or the awful 47th street diamond district. All of their designs are so delicate and sophisticated, the sales girl explained to me that every piece of jewelry there is hand made in New York, and honestly, you can really see the difference in craftsmanship. Prices are reasonable, and if you're lucky you can meet the designer herself, she is sometimes in the store during the week; I spoke with her both times I was in the store. I am very into rock n' roll and funky style jewelry designs. I was wandering around the West Village area on my day off and literally just stumbled upon Catherine Angiel's shop. To my happy surprise I wanted everything! The tattoo jewelry and graffiti jewelry was completely my style. The designers work with black diamonds was really cool too. Being a first time shopper I just looked around not too sure about what to actually purchase because I loved so many things! My wife and I first met Catherine at an animal charity event held at her remarkable Greenwich Village boutique. The store, and the designer, are warm and welcoming, and the same heart and emotion comes through in the jewelry. The style is a mix of edgy street art elevated to high-end luxury. It's like rock and roll meets the Met Gala (where Catherine's pieces have been featured). While many celebrities have worn Catherine Angiel (there are photos throughout the store), at no point will you feel that there isn't something there for you. The staff is friendly, gave us all the time we wanted to look around, and enthusiastically answered all of our questions. The selection is beautiful. I bought my wife her engagement ring there several years ago, and we went back to get our wedding bands. At first, I was hesitate about wearing a ring, as most men's bands are either really plain, or obnoxious. My wife was pretty insistent I do wear a ring, so the good husband that I am, we went band shopping. I was pretty surprised I found a wedding band I liked. Its very cool and not too simple. I went to Cat for a custom design after admiring her work for many years. I had my grandmother's 25th anniversary wedding ring, but it didn't fit me properly and the design didn't suit me.
