Food was hot and fresh, service was good. I'll definitely be back. We had the fried shrimp and a platter to go.

First of all, I am a longtime patron of Catfish King. I have eaten at the location in Monroe, LA & the location in Lufkin, TX on multiple occasions. I stopped at this location for takeout, as it is closer to my home in Houston. When I & my appetite arrived home, we were severely disappointed to find these ridiculously small & unseasoned dinners. I can't help feeling that I was robbed. I can't believe that I paid $30.27 for this. Is this what they serve everyone, or was I treated unfairly? read more

We hadn't been here in many years, and after reading the reviews, we were skeptical of going back. We did go, and glad we did. There were 4 adults in our party. Yes, the chairs are pretty aged and worn, but that was no problem. The salad bar was all we needed: enough salad toppings, coleslaw, potato salad and great pinto beans. Everything was clean, well stocked and tasty. The staff were exceptionally friendly, nice, and helpful. We ordered from the lunch menu and everything was very good. Chicken tenders are hand battered and we're great. The chicken fried steak was also hand battered (not frozen) and tender. The catfish and shrimp were excellent. Lunch prices were all under $10. Our experience was very good, all the way around. read more

The catfish is perfect! Great salad bar with lots of options. Beans are a work of art. Can't go wrong ordering anything off the menu.

Much better than the Lufkin location. Good prices. It is very busy. I will go back. The iced tea is not strong enough. Good catfish.

The food has NO flavor. It was the worst fish I have ever had. The batter was gross(no flavor)and the fish was dry and the pinto beans had no flavor. They ran out of bake potatoes and the service was slow due to being understaffed. It was jot worth the money. read more

The hostess was friendly, the waitress Erica was very attentive and friendly . The salad bar was fresh and the chicken fried steak was good. The price was terrific! I got a chicken fried steak, baked potato, toast, gravy and salad bar all for $11.99! I wish I would have taken pictures but I ate before I remembered! read more

The salad bar at catfish king is awesome! Included with almost any meal or on its own for $3.99, you can't go wrong. Most meals are very fried, so if you are not into that this might not be your restaurant. The service is great, prices are great, and I have never had to wait! read more

Catfish King is AMAZING!! Super good food and super kind staff!! I highly recommend coming here, and the interior is amazing as well!!

The best for the dollar! Bang for your buck! Always fresh and good! Bring your family and have some good food .

Restaurant was clean including the restrooms but the furniture is rustic (ragged actually). Service was good, no complaints. We had a Catfish & Shrimp platter with fries and an all you can eat Catfish & Shrimp platter with fries. Both came with beans, hush puppies and salad bar. Beans were good but needed salt. Hush puppies were inedible as they were borderline cremated. Salad bar was just okay, nothing special. Cole slaw was terrible, potato salad had too much vinegar but tossed salad was decent. Fries were good, came out hot and crisp. Shrimp was a mixed bag, the butterflied shrimp with my wife's meal were good. I don't realize the all you can eat came with popcorn shrimp which was a real disappointment and they were okay but not great. Catfish was bad. Had a texture more like a dried out chicken finger and little flavor. Tartar sauce was flavorless so no help there. Prices are fair for the quantity but with the quality of the food so lacking it felt expensive for the satisfaction level which was low. It had been years since we ate at a David Beard's Catfish King and it will be at least years before we do again. read more

We ordered 2 Senior Specials with Catfish. We were looking forward to this as it is our go to on our way home from cruising! We were greatly disappointed today. The service was good, people were friendly. HOWEVER, the beans were cold and hard and the coleslaw just was not good. I've always loved their coleslaw. The fish tasted mostly fishy and was veiny. It was not cooked consistently. It was not hot. The fries were okay, but not hot. My hush puppies were good. Not sure that this will be out stop next time. read more

Ambiance 2 Stars: We ate an early dinner while traveling. The log cabin/country look was quaint and inviting. Even tough the large highway sign says Catfish King the sign on the building and menus says David Beard. The interior looks like it could host a square dance and is cute but needs a makeover. The chairs badly need to be reupholstered so we sat in a booth that was all wood. Service 4 Star: Our waitress was extremely helpful and nice. She mad suggestions and kept our tea glass full and even brought us a go cup. Very attentive. Salad Bar 2 Star: The salad bar needed to be refreshed and I'm sure it was before the dinner crowd arrived. Main Course 4 Stars:My hubby had the chicken fried steak, which was huge and perfectly crusted. I had fried catfish and it was as good as I have ever had (except for Catfish Dewey's in Ft. Lauderdale). Even with the bad, the good was enough for another visit. read more

Young gal wait staff was friendly and helpful. Salad bar good. That's where it ends. Catfish hard and tasteless. Tartar sauce was mayonnaise. Shrimp cocktail sauce was ketchup. POOR excuse for being something called catfish!!! NO TASTE. read more

Service was exceptional!! Salad bar that accompanied the meal was on point for choosing your additional sides!! Fried fish was just OK. Not the best that I've had so I only give 4 stars. Price was the best deal and very affordable. read more

Food was cold, service was awful. The baked beans were disgusting a lot of it dripping on the sides of the pot. Worker came to refill one of the pots had his bare hands all inside the pot when grabbing it. Just gross. Food is gross too. The all you can eat is a scam it's cheap frozen food read more

Not great. The service was great - the food, not so much. Four of us stopped here for the first time. Three of us ordered the. Fried Catfish / Shrimp combo meals. The salad bar was decent. Staff did the serving. No complaints. The food came and looked okay but it wasn't great. The food was barely warm and the catfish and hush puppies were dry and tough. The shrimp was decent. Not coming back. Sorry Catfish King. read more

Food was cold and no flavor. Service was horrible and they are understaffed. Half of the place is closed and it looks like they store things in that area. read more

Food is excellent everytime we come here to eat! Deliciously and perfectly fried catfish & huge handbreaded chicken strips! Great fresh salad bar! YUM Always have friendly service too! Pricing is very fair! read more

This place is my go to cafe for fish. My favorite is grilled catfish over dirty rice and veggie on side in place of fries. This is without a doubt the best value for money meal available. The senior lunch special comes with FREE drink, cole slaw and beans. I time my travel to my ranch three hours north of Houston to dine here. read more

Place is grimy! Everything in there looks and feels dirty. Had dinner there and the catfish was dry and hard to eat; probably old and refried. The salad bar option is nice but it was very dirty and bean juice was everywhere. Hush puppies and popcorn shrimp were tasty but I wouldn't. 99% of the staff were rude and dry. Thankfully I had the 1 waitress who was kind and tentative. Will not be back. read more

I've been here twice in the past year when I'm in town for business. The food here always hits the mark. The salad bar is always clean, free of flies and looks very appealing. The unique feature I like is the pot of pinto beans at the salad bar. They're always fresh and tasty ! Their menu is diverse and the only bad thing is having to make a decision from it. read more

NO working soap dispenser in either mens or women's bathroom. Soap in 1 dispenser but would not work. No paper towels--working. Fish not hot, we will never stop at this location again. read more

Very accommodating & friendly. Christian music on the speaker. System was uplifting, but not too loud Fresh Lemon slices served with my iced tea were large enough to enjoy. Salad bar was nice and fresh at 4pm with a nice variety, including potato salad and coleslaw. The only area of improvement that I've noted was Fish strips were tasty, although could be a little more golden brown so they looked a bit anemic. Otherwise everything was great. Even had a server check on me that was not mine. Everyone seemed happy and working well together. read more

I've been coming to this location since childhood (I'm in my 40's) never have i ever been charged for tomato relish. I called my order of 8 oz fish in and she said it was $15.49 which threw me off because it's usually $11.90. I thought they may have went up. When i asked red head lady that took my order she said it was for the relish!! Almost $4 for that small cup of relish!!!! When i brought it to her attention she just stood there with no explanation when i asked since when did they start charging for condiments. I've always favored the Lufkin location so from now own I'll keep trucking past this one! read more

Sunday afternoon is packed so CK is doing something right! I really like the salad bar, it's adequate for a seafood restaurant. This ain't Sweet Tomatoes people, stop expecting 299 different salad toppers. They do have these pickled peppers (well I think they are peppers) that are good on the salads. The catfish and shrimp is good. I admit it was better before the placed burned down and they rebuilt but it's still tasty. It's worth a stop if you're passing through. Service was standard, nothing rude but not over the top nice either. read more

Onion rings are great! Catfish was better! We got here about 9:00 pm and they show to close at 10:00. The part that ruined the meal was the lady moving the chairs to sweep. The noise was just disturbing throughout the whole meal. I would not recommend to go here late. read more

All I can say is I am glad I did not trust the other reviews. Food was great, service was great. Loved my oysters and catfish.

Always clean. Server was nice and attentive. Food is exactly what I remember and needed. The menu was confusing. Saying they had "Cajun" items but they didn't. A long drive but I couldn't rest until we went. read more

We really enjoy this place. I love the salad bar, the coleslaw and the beans, all of which are a part of the salad bar. The lunch special is plenty of food for one! I would probably give it 5 Stars if it were cleaner and the fish were just slightly fresher. But overall we will continue to come here when we're needing a fried catfish fix! read more

Where do I begin? The catfish had no flavor. The chicken fried steak was also tasteless. The gravy was clumpy with no flavor. Don't get me started on the tarter sauce. They didn't have potato's but served fries. The floor by the salad bar was dirty with paper and food everywhere. I did enjoy the 2 hush puppies and ice tea but that was it. Please , don't even bother with this place. Oh yeah, I want my $25 back. read more

The only restaurant that we've found that has a decent salad bar. The fried catfish is also very good. The waitresses also provide great service. Update: our last visit was a disappointment. I asked for a booth that was available & the host said he had to check with our waitress & proceeded to place our menus on a table. I asked again if we could have a booth & he replied no & walked away. The very next couple that walked in asked for a booth & the hostess asked if the booth I had pointed to would be ok & they were seated at that booth. We got up & walked out. Thanks to Catfish King we found the best Cajun food restaurant in the area. It is LeBlanc's Cajun Kitchen on the old highway going out to Lake Livingston (4148 Fm 2457). We have eaten there 3 times in the past 3 weeks & taken family too. They loved it too. As spoken by Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman - Catfish King "big mistake "!!! read more
