First of all, I am a longtime patron of Catfish King. I have eaten at the location in Monroe, LA & the location in Lufkin, TX on multiple occasions. I stopped at this location for takeout, as it is closer to my home in Houston. When I & my appetite arrived home, we were severely disappointed to find these ridiculously small & unseasoned dinners. We hadn't been here in many years, and after reading the reviews, we were skeptical of going back. We did go, and glad we did. There were 4 adults in our party. Yes, the chairs are pretty aged and worn, but that was no problem. The salad bar was all we needed: enough salad toppings, coleslaw, potato salad and great pinto beans. Everything was clean, well stocked and tasty. The staff were exceptionally friendly, nice, and helpful. We ordered from the lunch menu and everything was very good. Chicken tenders are hand battered and we're great. The chicken fried steak was also hand battered (not frozen) and tender. The catfish and shrimp were excellent. Lunch prices were all under $10. The salad bar at catfish king is awesome! Included with almost any meal or on its own for $3.99, you can't go wrong. Most meals are very fried, so if you are not into that this might not be your restaurant. The service is great, prices are great, and I have never had to wait! read more

Restaurant was clean including the restrooms but the furniture is rustic (ragged actually). Service was good, no complaints. We had a Catfish & Shrimp platter with fries and an all you can eat Catfish & Shrimp platter with fries. Both came with beans, hush puppies and salad bar. Beans were good but needed salt. Hush puppies were inedible as they were borderline cremated. Salad bar was just okay, nothing special. Cole slaw was terrible, potato salad had too much vinegar but tossed salad was decent. Fries were good, came out hot and crisp. Shrimp was a mixed bag, the butterflied shrimp with my wife's meal were good. I don't realize the all you can eat came with popcorn shrimp which was a real disappointment and they were okay but not great. Catfish was bad. Had a texture more like a dried out chicken finger and little flavor. Tartar sauce was flavorless so no help there. Prices are fair for the quantity but with the quality of the food so lacking it felt expensive for the satisfaction level which was low. We ordered 2 Senior Specials with Catfish. We were looking forward to this as it is our go to on our way home from cruising! We were greatly disappointed today. The service was good, people were friendly. HOWEVER, the beans were cold and hard and the coleslaw just was not good. I've always loved their coleslaw. The fish tasted mostly fishy and was veiny. Ambiance 2 Stars: We ate an early dinner while traveling. The log cabin/country look was quaint and inviting. Even tough the large highway sign says Catfish King the sign on the building and menus says David Beard. The interior looks like it could host a square dance and is cute but needs a makeover. This place is my go to cafe for fish. My favorite is grilled catfish over dirty rice and veggie on side in place of fries. This is without a doubt the best value for money meal available. I've been here twice in the past year when I'm in town for business. The food here always hits the mark. The salad bar is always clean, free of flies and looks very appealing. Very accommodating & friendly. Christian music on the speaker. System was uplifting, but not too loud Fresh Lemon slices served with my iced tea were large enough to enjoy. Salad bar was nice and fresh at 4pm with a nice variety, including potato salad and coleslaw. The only area of improvement that I've noted was Fish strips were tasty, although could be a little more golden brown so they looked a bit anemic. Otherwise everything was great. I've been coming to this location since childhood (I'm in my 40's) never have i ever been charged for tomato relish. I called my order of 8 oz fish in and she said it was $15.49 which threw me off because it's usually $11.90. I thought they may have went up. When i asked red head lady that took my order she said it was for the relish!! Almost $4 for that small cup of relish!!!! When i brought it to her attention she just stood there with no explanation when i asked since when did they start charging for condiments. I've always favored the Lufkin location so from now own I'll keep trucking past this one! read more

Sunday afternoon is packed so CK is doing something right! I really like the salad bar, it's adequate for a seafood restaurant. This ain't Sweet Tomatoes people, stop expecting 299 different salad toppers. They do have these pickled peppers (well I think they are peppers) that are good on the salads. The catfish and shrimp is good. I admit it was better before the placed burned down and they rebuilt but it's still tasty. It's worth a stop if you're passing through. Onion rings are great! Catfish was better! We got here about 9:00 pm and they show to close at 10:00. The part that ruined the meal was the lady moving the chairs to sweep. The noise was just disturbing throughout the whole meal. I would not recommend to go here late. read more

We really enjoy this place. I love the salad bar, the coleslaw and the beans, all of which are a part of the salad bar. The lunch special is plenty of food for one! I would probably give it 5 Stars if it were cleaner and the fish were just slightly fresher. But overall we will continue to come here when we're needing a fried catfish fix! read more

The only restaurant that we've found that has a decent salad bar. The fried catfish is also very good. The waitresses also provide great service. Update: our last visit was a disappointment. I asked for a booth that was available & the host said he had to check with our waitress & proceeded to place our menus on a table. I asked again if we could have a booth & he replied no & walked away. The very next couple that walked in asked for a booth & the hostess asked if the booth I had pointed to would be ok & they were seated at that booth. We got up & walked out. Thanks to Catfish King we found the best Cajun food restaurant in the area. It is LeBlanc's Cajun Kitchen on the old highway going out to Lake Livingston (4148 Fm 2457).
