Cute hipster spot. Upon entering the smells of the bakery make you drool. It was busy on a snowy Friday morning. I got an iced maple latte and my husband got a hot one. The maple flavor was a lot more pronounced in the hot latte. Someone else in the group was raving about the matcha. unfortunately they don't know how to make a good coffe. Also I'd like the option of adding my own milk thank you. considering the huge margin of profit made on coffee you would think that the owners would inform themselves on the art of making a good coffe. the brewed coffee is bland at best. forget about getting an espresso, it's bitter as hell. They have confused a "strong" coffee with making it dark and bitter. This is probably due to a poor roaring process. However, the service and atmosphere are good- but the coffee, my main purpose for going to Catalyst Coffee Bar, is terrible. read more

Excellent visit. I'm not really supposed to have caffeine anymore, so I opted for a compromise. A Golden Chai. Incredibly delicious combo of lightly-caffeinated chai, turmeric, and my choice...oat milk. The proprietor was a lovely lady, as she was engaging and interested in my goings-on. We spoke about the industry, customer service, etc... And my mask - Pugs, Coffee, Justice. RIP RBG! The baristas were both professional and friendly. Definitely a new favourite. read more

I was very impressed with the place as soon as we walked in. I am on a search for the best cold brew coffee in VT and while Catalyst doesn't hold the number 1 spot in my book, the cold brew was definitely solid; very flavorful and just enough caffeine. My companion ordered the siphon and we very much enjoyed watching the process (he also liked the coffee, so that's a plus). We arrived late in the day so the bakery was closed, which was fine. The owner Karen is often @Catalyst offering up a smile and friendly welcome striking 5-stars for Staff, in my book. Everyone that works here is quick to resolve any problems you have, albeit problems are rare. The environment/atmosphere continues it's evolution as they continue to refine the modern lab feel they're presenting. From the way they make coffee to the decor they display it's definitely worth a look. The cafe is clean from seats to bathroom, front entrance to coffee bar, everything is kept neat and tidy. The quality of their drinks is top notch, and no I'm not an advertiser for them, I've had my fair share of "OK" drinks elsewhere, they are consistent with each drink and the quality of ingredients they use comes out in the wonderful flavor of any of their delicious creations. Prices are fair and comparable to other small cafes around Saint Albans. If you're looking for any cheaper prepare to visit the franchise, but keep in mind, you won't get nearly the quality or care that you'll get from catalyst. Overall a great location to pick up your coffee or other beverage of choice. Suggest giving them a visit a few times, get a taste for yourself. Wow! I was really stunned by how awesome and friendly this coffee shop is. Tried a cup of their coffee brewed using their "siphon" method. They were really patient explaining their different roasts, and the different flavor profiles of their roasts. Coolest little hidden gem. I was helping friends move into the building above and popped into this little coffee house and had the most delicious maple latte. I then returned for an earl grey tea, and a refill. Then again in the morning for a cup of Kenya and the following for a cup of locally roasted Sugar Shack seasonal blend. I thought I walked in on a chemistry experiment, but it was coffee by the syphon method. Looked cool. I had a cortado, though only espresso and coffee are listed on the menu board. The barista knew what she was doing and was very nice, accommodating. Upscale interior, several different seating areas. Uncommonly delicious coffee prepared by clear connoisseurs, in a beautiful, bright, open, calm, comfortable space, with great and friendly service. The proprietor introduced me to a "Café Allongé," a form of Americano made by pulling an extra shot from the espresso, and it was the best Americano I've ever had. read more

Fun fact, my relatives apparently settled St Albans forever ago so now whenever we go to Canada we have to stop by the downtown and walk around. We decided to try this coffee bar as we tried the other one nearby last trip and always want to try something new. I have to say the bakery portion in the back is amazing. I tried a maple eclair and my traveling companion got a cheesy asparagus tart. Yum. The woman even heated it up for us. I love the decor. Nice couches, dark and a great place to drink coffee and just hang out. They even had a great display of various maple items for baking. The only negative was the dirty chai we ordered. It tasted off. Not so bad that you couldn't drink it but not what we were expecting. I'd go back for the bakery and try a different drink next time. read more

My friend and I were in St. Albans for business and while he waited for me to finish my work he found this delightful coffee shop on Main Street. I joined him and was so pleasantly surprised how interesting and unique this place was. Apparently it was a former indoor farmers market so it had all these little seating areas that were so pleasant. They were each filled with interesting books and things like a microscope, a typewriter etc. Nice comfortable furniture as well. The coffee was good. the owners were nice and friendly and welcoming. I had a Dirty Chai which was delicious. my friend had a decaf latte which he said was tasty. If i lived closer i would be back more often. read more
