Lady suggested to take them to KCAS instead not knowing they'll probably get killed there and possibly not get adopted.Very unprofessional. Wanting to diagnose these babies without running test or even being certified to say exactly what's going on.Do not come here, waste of time, and clearly only want your money, makes sense coming from a non-profit organization.

It's a little difficult to get ahold of this place over the phone, but once you do, they only take same day appointments & you have to call on the day you want to visit + hope that there are free appointments. We visited to view cats and were helped shortly after arriving. According to the front desk, if the animal that you're interested in picking up has already been spayed, you can take them home the same day! Or, if they have been, they either try to get them spayed/neutered the next day, or by Tuesdays (as those are their spay/neuter days). We unexpectedly found the perfect little baby to take home, 20 minutes, a bit of paper work + calls to my apartment complex and $100 later, we were given all the paper work / vaccine records + a bag of kitten kibble! Make sure to bring your own carrier if you're really looking to pick up a furry friend on the same day. The only thing I didn't like was finding out afterwards that our little boy hadn't finished his course of vaccines. A friend of mine has adopted cats from an SPCA before & because they hadn't finished having their vaccines, they were able to go in to the facility to finish off their booster shots free of cost.

I am mentioning this because the Director mentioned a new building as a solution in an article. The leadership of Kern County Animal Services have done little to advocate for animals, i.e. cat that was shot by a police officer for fun. Instead of advocating for animals, they make a standard statement and then do nothing. While most counties do community outreach and education, this county does not. Instead of leading and organizing, they refer to countless organizations that are using the same broken system. Numerous times I was told to just let strays die. I spent thousands of dollars and spent a lot of time taking animals to different counties so that they could get services they desperately needed because Kern County was incapable and unwilling to help their animals and community. The county, along with animal services, needs to stop shrugging at problems while using the excuse that it is like this everywhere. It is not, Kern County has a bad reputation for a reason and leadership would be wise to learn from others.

We think she's a Visla/Chihuahua mix; she couldn't be sweeter or more kind to our little Chiweenie. On top of the staff being top-notch and the facilities being as clean as they can be, the fact that they sent us home with a bag of the food our dog was eating + a bag of treats + got her registered for us + gave us a nice collar and leash + had given him flea meds for the month - we truly could not have asked for more.
