This is my husband's go to place for anything to do with his fish. He was more of frequent shopper when they were on Rosedale hwy but now that they moved to Robert's Lane, he dosent go as much. He loves that you can trade fish for store credit. That is why we made the trip yesterday, my husband traded in 7 green terrors and a sucker fish and I thought they give good trade in value. The store is bigger now than when it was on Rosedale hwy. It's located in a warehouse so there is plenty of parking but the pavement is in poor condition due to cracking. The man who was working was so kind and informative. He had a tank waiting for our fish. There were a dozen or more tanks filled with different fish. The place and tanks looked as clean as they could considering people and fish are in and out all day. read more

Walked in with questions and was provided answers, no pressure to buy anything! Went back a few times with more questions and same experience with different staff. Eventually, I bought 6 angelfish from them, and they are all doing well nearly a month later. They say they can order almost anything I want, so I'll see how that goes. I would rather buy locally than order on-line but realize Bakersfield is not a huge market for the fish hobbyist. read more

Just started an aquarium recently bought my first batch of fish from petco and I thought why not try the local stores. I fully regret it, I was sold a fish that I did not know at the time was sick, the store clerks obviously knew this fish was sick as it had lost all its color already. I bought 1 danio originally a red glo danio I came back and bought 3 more as my 1st danio didn't school with my tetras like the employees said he would. After coming home with a total of 4 glofish danios and 3 cory cats and 7 snails I learn that my danio was sick and the other danios began to fade in color and swim into objects around my tank erratically. I came back to try to return it and the employee was very rude, I did miss the signs saying no refund so I accepted the store credit and got a Cory and snail. I would not recommend this store for beginners. They will sell you any product regardless of your ecosystem. At petco the clerks gave me real advice and didn't try to sell me a pleco for my 20 gallon tank that was already full with 10 tetras. A messy pleco would have added so much additional waste in my tank. AVOID AT ALL COST OF BEGINNERS. They will sell you whatever they can, they also sold me live food I said was for my frog and they recommended it because the food I was looking for was unavailable.... My frog showed absolutely no interest in it. Nice to know that you can't even trust a business to be honest in times like this. 2 stars because my cory cats are still a good purchase and my snails haven't died either. UPDATE: I'm now removing all the fish I bought from them. My Cory cat has now also shown signs of sickness. I will be bringing it to a different store for a professional opinion but given they have sold me 2 sick fish I won't risk my whole tank even though I did spend close to 100$ at this store. read more

Great aquarium store in Bakersfield, not huge but fish they carry will be sometimes be the largest you'll ever see. I love monster fish but largest tank i have is a 125 gallon. They allow me to be able to house some monsters (Arowana, Peacock Bass and Clown Knife) for a few years than will always buy them back once they outgrow my tank. Gives me a chance to enjoy having those tank buster fish for awhile. Also they will order any fish u desire which is pretty cool. Last thing is if u love Frontosa fish they always have some type at their store, sometimes very large and little babies. read more

While in another big chain pet store, I overheard some people talking about this place. We ducked out of said pet store and headed this way. While the store is small, we found exactly what we needed and also found the service to be professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable. The tanks here are well kept and the fish all seem healthy and happy. I saw one of the biggest algae eaters I've ever seen IRL and learned that you can bring them back to this store when they get too big and get credit for a smaller little creature. We will def be coming back here - way more personable than the big box stores and we all should support local business, especially when they're awesome. read more

This should be everyone's go to fish store in Bakersfield. The Owner Pat is extremely friendly and can get you any fish or tank needed at an exceptional price. Staff is knowledgeable and everything in store beats most competitors. I'd stay away from your local commercial retailers (petco, petsmart) as most times their fishes are unhealthy and carry diseases! When I first got my 60 gallon fish tank I went on youtube to get all the info I could on how to set up and how to stock my tank. I went in to the local "big named" pest stores and the employees really didn't know much. I then found Fish N Tanks and Pat not only was very patient in dealing with me and my lack of knowledge in the hobby. After fully stocking my tank I would find something on youtube that I didn't see around here I would give Pat a call and he was able to locate every fish I asked him for. I even had to upgrade my tank to a 135gal because my 60 gal couldn't handle all the beautiful fish Pat was able to find for me. I HIGHLY recommend FNT for all of your fish needs. read more

Wow! This was our first time in Fish & Tank. We had read some of the rave reviews, and drove the 1-1/2 hours to get there from the Kern River Valley. What an amazing experience. We've never had so much fun buying fish and fish supplies. Pat, the owner, was hands on in helping us make good choices to add to our existing tank. His motto is to create relationships, not just customers. We happen to live and work by the same motto, and so appreciated the tremendous service, the great choices in the fresh water fish we were looking for, and the generous and fun spirit of everyone working there, and the customers coming and going. The selection of fish is very very limited. The fish were unhealthy. It appears as though the staff has no idea about enviroment . Perhaps due to covid business is so bad that they are not able to obtain fish, or plants, or gravel or decorations. Im not sure what is being sold there, but aquarium supplies, fish or plants do not seem to be available. They really need to step it up. Improve the quality. Ive seen healthier fish and enviroments at Wal-Mart. The good reviews on this store must have been written by staff. read more
