Through my home warranty, I was referred to C.A.T. Mechanical. I had a technician, Tim, come out and took a look at my system. No pressure to purchase anything. He was honest, punctual, and friendly. I decided that since my system was old to go ahead and purchase a new one. Chris, the owner, called me to schedule the installation, and he was there throughout the entire process. He never made me feel like I was pestering him or bothering him. He said that he insists that all of his technicians treat his customers as they would treat his grandmother. I was recommended to C.A.T. from a co-worker. She told me how amazing they were last year during the summer. They are Kings at fixing another heating/air company screw-up's...they replaced all the parts in her older AC unit to help her save from having to pay $7k for a brand new unit! They came recommended to my co-worker. Needless to say, I also took that recommendation and called them up to get a 2nd opinion about my furnace. I was without heat for a week...and a weekend during the recent snow storm in TX. The heating company that my home warranty provided was incompetent and wanted to replace an item that wasn't even broke. I knew that and Im no furnace mechanic! Needless to say, C.A.T. Our One Guard home warranty after requesting a 2nd opinion ok Tim, Sr. Tech to come out & see what our heating problem was. We were having problems & on emergency heat from Christmas through New Years. Home warranty had sent out the 1st time someone from another company and after 2 hrs still wasn't sure what the problem was. Finally he stated maybe it was the compressor and would order parts costing us out of pocket $700-1000. We complained to home warranty and thats when they contacted CAT to come out. Found out it wasn't the compressor but a part, so Tim fixed it, and didn't cost us any out of pocket expenses. Tim was so professional and being senior citizens we were so happy. I have used C.A.T. Mechanical for years. They service and repair the equipment at my place of business and also my home. This is one of the most honest companies I know. The owner is very professional and reasonable. Him and his employees have years of experience in this line of business. I saw the review this company received from another customer and I would have to completely disagree with what he stated. In the years that I have dealt with A/C and heater systems, mechanical failures happen everyday randomly. It doesn't mean it is the fault of the company that provided you a service and repaired your system when you called them out. I have had my compressor go out and 3 weeks later another part failed. It is just the way mechanical equipment works much like a human body. All your parts could be working fine one day and the next day your heart could fail. I would most definitely recommend this company to anyone in need of repairs or a new system. They are 100% trustworthy. I have used them for 5 years without any problems. I would also like to add that sometimes it IS actually the fault of the customer for not maintaining their equipment properly. Filters have to be changed regularly, outside units washed down, etc. It is so easy for one company to blame another company for the problem. They were initially dispatched by my warranty company to repair an a/c issue. They charged me $300 to clean the blower wheel and evaporator coil. Less than a week later the unit quit again. They came back out to repair it again and the a/c unit work for through the next two weeks which was the end of warm temperatures. HOWEVER, shortly after the weather changed. My tenant went to turn on the heater in the same unit only to find it wasn't working. I called my warranty company and they redispatched CAT Mechanical. I was already leery of the work at this point! My tenant said the repair guy was there for about 15 minutes, pointed to a black area that had been scorched and said the unit needs to be replaced. THE SAME UNIT THAT THEY HAD TAKE $300 TO REPAIR TWO WEEKS EARLIER. A representative from CAT Mechanical called my warranty company and told them that the heater was broken and scorched on inside and so this must have been due a lack of maintenance. AGAIN, The very same unit that their tech had repaired and fixed less than a month earlier. I couldn't help but wonder, "Wouldn't one of the other repair guys have noticed burned elements since the heater and a/c are in the same unit?" No one from CAT Mechanical ever contacted me even though I've contacted them on more than one occasion. After four tries with an a/c company that our warranty company selected to fix one of two broken units, we asked for another. CAT Mechanical was the new a/c company. I called after my blower motor on my AC wouldn't turn on. The technician came out and said it was a bad capacitor. He replaced it and was done in less then ten minutes. My issue with this company didn't start till he showed me the bill and he had charged me $150 for a new capacitor battery. I asked him how much they cost and he said that was the best price around. So after a $69 service charge with a $150 capacitor and 10 mins of work I was out $219. This company is getting one star because the replacement battery only costs $4 at home depot. So save your money and call someone else. I know I will be. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They are the absolute worst. The technicians do not have a clue what they are doing and cannot even agree amongst themselves. They will waste your time and money and never fix the problem. They are either very incompetent or very dishonest. Either way, not someone you want working on your A/C. And the owner does not care AT ALL! He will promise to call you but he never will and is always unavailable. CAT Mechanical was sent to us for a second opinion when we had been left with a barely functional AC unit with a newborn baby in the house after the last repair company came and told us there was nothing wrong with our unit. This review is for TIM at CAT Mechanical. There are some techs that can see it all and KNOW the products like no other. Tim is genuine , an obvious hard worker and knows his craft. CHRIS you are beyond fortunate to have him. After having you guys send another tech out the first time, We didn't get to the finish line of the problem. The initial tech realized I needed a new part but didn't properly install it. So I called Again and that same tech came out and still did not resolve the issue. There's nothing worse than having to pay out of pocket for something that still doesn't solve the initial reason I called. SINCE it wasn't resolved and you all were recommended by my mother, I called for her advice and she immediately said: GET TIM!!! And so I did. TIM DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE IMMEDIATElY! CAT Mechanical was called out to my home by my Home Warranty Company after my AC stop functioning properly. They have now been out to my home three times and have yet to solve the problem. The first time they came out in June and said my unit was not working due to a minor service need. A month later in July the unit froze up again doing the same thing. CAT Mechanical came out and said the same thing, "just a minor service need" and they recharged the freon. Three days later , same thing, the unit froze again. This time they stated the coils may be dirty and the blower wheel was dirty, so they took out the blower wheel and cleaned it and charged me $150.00, not covered under warranty. The blower wheel issue should have been addressed the last two times they were at my home. If this had been addressed as it should have been, I would not be facing another weekend where no service contractor is available, parts are not available and I am without AC all weekend!! Today, Saturday, my unit is doing the same thing, freezing up!! I have now called a different company and i am not using my WARRANTY! I would not recommend CAT mechanical. I live in TEXAS and it is HOT. Over 100 degrees during these issues. Very frustrating. read more
