They have a great mission: They team up with the Hawaiian Humane Society to showcase cats and kittens that are available for adoption, and if you are vetted and selected, you can take your chosen cat(s) home for their new life with you! Even if you're not in the market for a new companion, you can go to the Café, get a coffee or Italian soda, eat a scone, and pet adorable cats. There's always a nice rotating mixture of frisky kittens and older cats, and some are napping while others are playing. There are toys in the room where the cats are so you can interact with them. I always recommend reservations but you can walk in and see if there are spots available. You get lots of time to interact with the cats and it's usually not packed so there's room to interact with multiple kitties. Please check it out--it's such a good cause!

We'd really love to adopt a cat. We have donated money to Pretzel the puppy and other kitties at Toe Beans who needed urgent medical funds. Each time is a gamble on how well the visit will go because sometimes the kitties will be sick, or tired, and not in the mood to be social. There have been visits where the kitties had runny eyes, sneezed out mucus onto us, and just wanted to sleep. Today was one of those days. I'm not saying this is the kitties fault or that I blame them for being sick, the play rooms are small and so sickness between them can spread easily. It is odorous inside the establishment because there aren't open windows and the litter boxes are inside the rooms. They do have air purifiers but it doesn't help much to be honest. Today we made an appointment to go at 11, which was the earliest we ever went, and it was actually busier than we expected. They had rearranged the furniture around in the adult cat room so I had to crouch until one of the other guests offered me a stool to sit on. Two older women who seemed like regulars came into the room about 10 minutes after I entered and one of them moved a large cat bed off of one of the 2 benches so that she could sit. Then they scattered a bunch of cat treats from a bag that they had brought in themselves over the floor to feed the cats. I had never experienced that in my other visits and it was honestly off putting, because it made the free treats that are given to us to get the kitties attention pretty much useless. It just felt.. wrong. There was a strand of cat mucus on the grey cupboard that I was sitting on, and I warned my boyfriend to watch out for it before he sat down. One of the older women said "I don't think you should sit there, it's their litter box". Before she and her companion came in, another guest had been sitting on the cupboard. I only moved to sit on it once the guest moved to sit next to her girlfriend on one of the benches and because the stool was uncomfortable. Also, in our past visits, people always sat on that grey cupboard. So.. I don't know why she felt the need to tell me that. My boyfriend said that the 10 guest limit might be a bit too many people to let in at once to play with the cats. I find myself agreeing with him after today. We were really looking forward to hanging out with the cats today, but those 2 older women who dumped their own treats into the room like they were feeding a feral cat colony and the stressed, sick cats who just wanted to sleep or only move around to eat treats made us leave much earlier than the 50 minutes we paid for. Again, I appreciate what Toe Beans mission is, but they should look into changing certain things, such as installing open windows to allow ventilation and cleaning the rooms more. And maybe taking "sick days" for the cats so they aren't forced to entertain guests when they aren't feeling well.

Steak Ramen: Pretty filling, flavorful, and definitely meaty. Crémeux: This had a passion fruit topping that I really liked. A nice way to end the meal. Ulu Vanilla Cruller: I liked the warm dough with the ice cream on top. Something about the warm and cold combination was just yummy. Breakfast: Cornflake French Toast: Always a win and probably my staple here. Something about the salty and sweet, hot and cold, crispy and soft combination is just SO good. As you can probably tell from my photos, I get this pretty much every time I come Fish and Eggs: Tried this recently and really enjoyed it. Everything tasted fresh and light, and I loved the combination of flavors. My only thing is that sometimes the portions here can feel a little small for the price. Dumplings: They were good, but I honestly don't remember anything particularly special about them. Breakfast Bibimbap: Good, but for what it is and the amount you get, I'm not sure it feels as worth it to me. Koko Moko: Similar thoughts to the breakfast bibimbap. It was good, but the portion and price made it less of a standout for me. Benedict: I've had this in the past, although I'm not sure if they still have it on the menu. We found street parking across the street since parking in front of the café was limited. Jasmin welcomed us and pointed to the menu on the wall. We saw pictures of the food outside the window and the menu was written on a chalkboard stand. Her cafe is small, but very cozy with bright, cool looking furniture, and there were beautiful art work on the walls, and she had on some catchy Arabian music as well. We tried the Meza plate: Baba Ghanoush (smoky eggplant dip), Dolmas ( tangy grape leaves), Za'atar bread( spices, onions)- Jasmin said this was everyone's favorite, after the taste of this bread you guys, it became our favorite! It tastes super nice and it was flavorful! There was feta cheese, kalamata olives, and bread cut in a triangular shape. Jasmin told us to open the bread and grab the dips, and cheese with it. Every bite was a whole different experience! It was delicious! Jasmin said we had to eat the Za'atar bread, with the cheese on it and it was just yum! Jasmin let us try Saudi coffee, with sweet dates, and I also ordered the Honey Rose Latte. The Saudi coffee had cardamom in it so it's different from regular coffees. My Honey Rose Latte was good too. Jasmin asked if I wanted my latte sweeter and added more of the sweetener in my coffee. Even Ryan liked it too! The rose water gave it a nice touch. We also had the Turkey Panini~Jasmin's turkey panini was super crispy! There was cheese melting in the inside! You can hear the crunch in every bite! There were vegetables in it too like bell peppers, pesto, zucchini, and turkey meat. Ryan and I were really loving it! And for the final course, we had to try the desserts! We ordered two kinds of cakes, the sour cream poppy seed cake, and pumpkin spice loaf. These cakes were super moist, and not as sweet, which was perfect with our coffee. And there was a nice sugary crumble texture with it! So friends, if you are feeling adventurous and want to try something new, come on down to Jasmin's cafe at Mirage Arts & Coffee. She also does open mic nights, there would be live entertainment, belly dancers, so if you want to have a small get together, Jasmin welcomes everyone. Jasmin is a wonderful host. She will walk you through everything if you are not familiar with the foods, and she will entertain you too. This place will take you to another level, transport you to somewhere you have never been. So I do recommend you guys trying for the experience.

She seems to have major emotional dysregulation issues and will SNAP at people who are with a foster dog, or addopting a dog, that is sniffing at the three dog display cages in front, "DON'T LET THE DOG MAKE CONTACT WITH THE PUPPY!!!" (These three cages out front seem to be featured dogs they want people to notice?) Well perhaps they should put the cages higher up?? She also asks a lot of personal questions and follows people around the shelter, observing/spying as they view or interact with dogs (passive agressive much?!?!). If HHS was SO concerned about disease transmission, perhaps they should not have cats roaming loose inside the shelter, or FERAL CHICKENS flying and running around all over the shelter and DRINKING from the dog water bowls. My fiance and I like to call ourselves cat lounge connoisseurs. Just jokes- that's just me, in my…read moreown head calling myself that. But we do visit cat cafes/lounges more often than not. We go to the two in town once every few months, and enjoy the wide range of cats and kitten alike. Rebekah L. introduced us to this new kitty cafe early late last month, however with our schedules and the busy-ness of this lounge, we were only able to schedule a visit this past weekend. So we loaded up, and drove to meet Rebekah in not-so-small Kailua Town. We lucked out on street parking and met up with our friend to walk into the most kitschy kitty place of our dreams. Literally. The waiting area was decorated with cat posters and comfy chairs to wait for check in. The most impressive part was the huge cat tiki that commanded attention as soon as walking in. One of the cat owners, Heather, advised that the statue was commissioned and the work was so beautifully done it had me wondering if I wanted a cat tiki in my apartment.. After check in, we were directed to the snacks for purchase before entering the 'cat room'. We opted for both treats, and it would be brought into the cat room after it was made. The dole whip was delicious and such a generous portion too. We also tried the acai bowl for 'research purposes' and I was shocked to learn in was vegan. The acai bowl sweetness wasn't overpowering as it sometimes can be, and the granola had a nice crunch to it. So far this kitten lounge has my favorite snacks- definitely blew the previous bean water and tea out of the water. The nicest touch (in my opinion) was that the owner also directed us where the bathroom was before starting our cat adventure. It was a very nice touch as many places do not offer bathrooms, especially cat lounges. We sanitized our hands and walked into the cat area. There was a main cat area, currently decorated in the tiki/Old Hawaii style with tiny grass huts and aloha shirt cats framing the walls. One thing I was surprised and delighted to discover was that there was multiple cat rooms! To the left of the main room, there was two smaller rooms, decorated 'cat' themed as well, with Chinese Cat Paw wallpaper and cat trees and toys all over. There was 'human' seating room all over the place, and the different rooms allowed much more space and time with cats than it would have been with just one big room. There was enough hiding space for the kittens to chill out for a nap. However they were relentless in their playing and just general 'kitten-ness' that there wasn't much napping when we were there. We currently have a soon to be three year old cat, and have been on the hunt for a possible candidate for our shy guy. One thing I didn't notice beforehand (in my excitement for cats) was that the lounge was only meant for kittens, and not cats of all ages. It didn't take away from my experience at all, but I was pleasantly surprised. My fiancé ended up falling for a cute tiny kitten named Kona, however it wasn't meant to be and we didn't end up adopting her. After our hour was up, we said a heartful goodbye to the kittens and the Owners, and left feeling much more relaxed than when we came in. We will be adding Aloha Kitty Cafe into our roster of cat lounges to visit and cannot wait for our next kitty play date!
