When I finally cornered him about it, his response was I don't understand why you are not grateful for the vision you have left. I am sad to say I saw him for several years, each time left me feeling belittled and depressed. Thankfully when I did change, my new provider immediately scheduled the cataract removal. When I started trying to understand it and asked what all that meant, the receptionist told me that it was all related to insurance and all I was going to pay was the copayment. She was very nice. Everything went fine until it was time for payment. The lady asked me to pay $251.88, it was $210.88 more than what I was supposed to pay. I made the payment because the lady said I had a deductible which I hadn't met. Then I realized that I had been to a variety of specialists before for myself and my children, neurosurgeons, otolaryngologists, ophthalmologists, etc., using the same insurance plan but never had to pay more than the copayment. The lady was rude and was raising her voice in front of other people. I was told that their billing dept. would call me. I left and called the insurance company and they told me that I shouldn't have been charged more than the copay. I went back to get a copy of the paper I was made to sign and requested to cancel all later appointments. I have had so many bad experiences in the past few years with medical professionals that I now feel helpless. The level of greed is astonishing.
