HI-Calgary City Centre - From the outside on a snowy late March day

Also just a couple of blocks from the bus for the airport, or if you arrive by bus, it's an easy (free) train ride from the Red Arrow bus station. Never felt unsafe walking around alone here. Even though it was just me, they gave me the private room with enough room for 5 people, which was pretty nice. The breakfast is the usual cereal based option of a lot of hostels, so unless you're on a super tight budget, you'll probably want to get something elsewhere. There is a grocery store and a Tim Hortons just across the way, so you have some options nearby. That being said, outside of groceries, Tim Horton's, and the Saddledome, there isn't a lot right around here to do, so keep that in mind when booking.

Even though we were there late. I didn't even sleep that night it was so hot and the mattress wasn't ready for my 205 pound body. That happened then we checked out. Came back on my own and was talked over by the guy who like to play red hot chilli peppers too loud in the lobby. Walked away while he was talking because he talked over me while I was telling him about nirvana guy. Hot and bed was insanely uncomfortable. A woman opened the window fully to then try and give me hypothermia. She was a special lady from Vancouver and couldn't be told anything. Off individuals there in general. There was a philipino young gentleman who was their best and nicest employee by far. Gilles, the supposed maintainer guy threatened me in French saying that he has the power to kick me out even though I didn't talk to him. I observed a situation with another person staying there. 3 people were cornering him in the laundry room while he was trying to get his stuff together to leave. Rushing him and then accusing racism, even though nothing of the sort was said haha two women (Spanish or native) who were given power, and are ready to abuse it over and over and over again. The ire goofs made the situation arise and then were acting like the victims. Classic. Cheap place but all in all weird and staff absolutely leaves a lot to be desired. Disappointing truly.

Our first week was spent on the British Columbia side of the mountains at Big Horn Meadows, which was nice and we enjoyed our stay there. However it wasn't Banff Gate. I guess all vacations depends on what one wants and expects. If you were a golfer then Big Horn Meadows in the scenic town of Radium Hot Springs (also one of our favorites) would be THE PLACE to stay. However, we are not golfers. We are wildlife enthusiasts. We enjoy nature and the mountains. We enjoy balconies where we can observe wildlife wander through the grounds. All of these we enjoyed at Banff Gate Mountain Resort. Because we have stayed there before we expected wooden cabins. We expected clean accommodations, but nothing fancy. Our cabin this year had a new table & chairs for dinning and the balcony was in tip-top shape. We had no complaints about our cabin, which they call a chalet. We were exceptionally pleased with the staff. We were happy with the pool, which is heated and indoors. We enjoyed the outdoor hot tub on several days. We enjoyed the indoor hot tub everyday! Most days the deer came by feeding on the dandelions. We hoped for a bear on property, but that didn't happen. However, one had been removed two weeks before arrival because he became "too friendly" on the grounds and was removed by authorities 250 KM away. We went in May of this year, which is a perfect time to see wildlife and before the crowds become unbearable in Canmore/Banff!
