My wife and I went to Castle Inn for 2 nights in July, 2025 and stayed in room 202. The Good: -The decor of the castle was what we expected. It was pretty cool to see the armored knights, the cool architecture of the castle (inside and out), the beautiful stained glass windows and all the older decorations. -The bedroom and bathroom were clean (except it was very dusty). -We were pleasantly surprised that there was a refrigerator and microwave because the way the website is worded it sounds like there is only a common refrigerator on the 2nd floor. -The Innkeepers, Dave and Trish, were very friendly and helpful. They try hard to please you and work hard. -Breakfast was ok. Mostly frozen sausage and bagged hash browns. There was also quiche, bagels and toast with various condiments. The Not So Good -Obviously the castle is old and you would expect it to have somewhat of a musty smell. It was exceptionally musty when you walk into the castle. Most people may tolerate it but with my breathing problems it was difficult for me. The room we stayed in was not bad but you can still smell it, especially when you open the door. -The rooms look really nice on the website but not as nice in person. The inn needs a lot of work and one maintenance man cannot possible do it all himself. More help is really needed. -Could use a place to hang cloths along with some hangers. read more

Reservations were smooth and easy but you do have to call to make a reservation and prepay. The person helping with reservations was helpful and got me set-up right away. Checking in was also a breeze. I got a text the day before with directions on parking, check-in, policies, etc. We called 30 minutes out to let them know when we would be arriving. The innkeeper was ready with our room keys and a lovely little welcome snack basket. He showed us the basics of the castle and to our room for the evening. We had a room on the third floor. It was cute with a jacuzzi tub, and a little private side room with a couch in it. We did not use the jacuzzi tub. The shower water was hot and felt great. The bed was comfortable and the comforter kept us warm (as it was a bit chilly in the room). Our room was adorable. There was a TV and DVD player in the room. Breakfast was simple and filling. Our host was a bit frazzled because of weather delays but he was so pleasant! We happily waited and talked with the other guests. We had eggs, hashbrowns, toast, english muffins and sausage. The night before he said it would be buffet style and then the next morning he ended up plating everything and bringing it out to us. There was also coffee, juice, and hot tea available. I would recommend adding some ketchup and jam to the menu options. There is a cute little gift shop with some interesting items in it. The innkeeper let us stay as long as we liked even though check-out was at 11a. There was one other couple staying with us that night but we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The decor is awesome. Overall the castle is adorable and fun. The innkeeper was so sweet and attentive. There are a few areas of maintenance improvements that could be done throughout the castle. I would love to see someone help invest for the repairs because I would hate for anything to happen to this beautiful space. read more

My boyfriend and I had a weekend getaway here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Communication prior to arriving was very good as they made sure we had the address, knew where we were going, and where/how to check in upon arrival. First impressions when we got there was that It definitely had a medieval castle vibe but was also very quaint and cute. We were greeted by the innkeeper and given our room key. We booked the honeymoon suite and it did not disappoint. The room itself was very unique and had a heart shaped Jacuzzi tub that we enjoyed. We were served fresh breakfast both mornings we were there that was made by the innkeeper. We also decided to add a couples massage and a candlelight dinner as a part of our stay as well. For the couples massage the masseuse came to our room and gave us the massage in the room which was really nice because we didn't have to go anywhere. We both enjoyed our massages it was very nice and relaxing. We then proceeded to head to dinner in the dining room area of the B&B where again the innkeeper made us a delicious fresh meal & desert! The innkeeper was very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. The hospitality and service was top-notch and really made for a good getaway weekend. Another highlight was the cost, the whole stay was very reasonably priced and affordable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I would highly recommend it to anyone that's looking for a quick getaway or a unique place to stay. I would definitely stay here again in the future. read more

What an amazing experience!! I had a friend visiting from out of town and I was looking for something unique so I signed us up for the Murder Mystery Dinner (think a live version of Clue) at the Castle Inn. HOW COOL!?? (not me, the concept! :) ) And even better that we were able to get in on New Year's Eve! The organizers are so thorough that they even provide you with period clothing and you are prepped as to what role you will be playing upon check-in. Maybe you all have done something like this before but I hadn't and I was completely impressed. They didn't leave out a single detail including the 4 course meals they served! I encourage everyone to try to book in or atleast drive in and look at this place as it is so structurally beautiful. And to add to the creepy factor, I am just watching a show on A&E and it is featured as one of the more prominent haunted locations in Ohio. Definitely a haunted house type feel so I would only suggest it for the adventurer. read more

This is a very nice place just outside of Columbus. The last weekend of the month the bed and breakfast do a murder mystery. The murder mystery was fun, it can be a little socially awkward but overall was a fun and entertaining time. The food at the bed and breakfast was ok, most of the food was cold. The castle decor was nice and authentic. Overall, it was a great experience and I'd recommend it to others. read more

We enjoyed our stay at the Castle Inn thoroughly and the breakfast was to die for. I even purchased a book of recipes from there and have used it for making some of their dishes for company. The hostesses made some wonderful cookies which we enjoyed while resting and reading there. The only drawback was on the night we stayed there was a lot of outside traffic noise. read more

This place was so dilapidated and disgusting that we couldn't bring ourselves to stay - we left within an hour of arriving. There was water damage in the ceiling and mold under the windows. It hadn't been dusted in years. There were semen stains on the shower curtain. The jacuzzi tub was covered in rust and had hairballs in it. There were days old dishes laying around the house. There was no way we were eating breakfast as we could only imagine the state of the kitchen based on the rest of the house. I have no idea how they pass safety code to remain in business. They have a notice of no refunds on their website for a reason. The owners never replied to my messages requesting a refund. They are stealing from people with their false advertising. They removed our comments from their Facebook page and blocked people from rating them there too. Please don't be like us and waste your money here. Run away! read more

My wife and I reserved a room with a hot tub/jacuzzi at the Castle Inn for our 29th anniversary a month in advance. We arrived on our anniversary and the lady in charge said we weren't expected until the following week. After checking in the room we were given a room with a hot tub/jacuzzi but it didn't work, and because we weren't expected for another week the room that did have a functioning hot tub/jacuzzi was given to another couple. We were not offered any kind of compensation for their errors. As for the quality of the the castle itself, it was run down and very unkept. While looking for the TV remote between couch cushions I pulled out a wad of dirty hair and was grossed out enough that I felt Ill. The shower wasn't functioning except one of many shower heads. We didn't even use because we were worried after finding the hair ball the showers wouldn't be clean either. Finally as for the breakfast was nothing more than coffee, OJ, and muffins. I recall making reservations at a bed and BREAKFAST. Needless to say we were NOT Impressed with our stay with one exception. The other couple from Cincinnati. But that has nothing to do with the Inn itself. read more

This was my first Bed and Breakfast, and it exceed my expectations by far. I was driving from Virginia to Columbus with my wife, who thought we were spending the night in Columbus. We arrived at the castle under the guise of taking pictures with the unique architecture, and Larry and Anita were in on it the whole time. They gave my wife, who was completely oblivious, a tour of the whole castle. The tour ended in our room, which Larry had sneaked our bags in through the back door. My wife was astonished! They nailed the surprise dead on! We arranged to stay on the third floor, but after taking the tour, we decided to change to the Princess Room. With the exception of the Honeymoon suite, the rooms on the third floor do not have any windows. The Princess Room, on the other hand, had a huge bay window area that lit up the room. It also had a huge bathroom. Anita lit a gas fireplace for us and helped set the ambiance. One mistake that was made was quickly rectified...beyond our expectations...I paid a little extra for candles and chocolates, and word never made it to Anita and Larry, so it wasn't in the room when we got there. When I called Jean, the owner, she gave us a free candlelight dinner (she usually charges $50 for it), and after the dinner, gave us the chocolates and a keepsake rose in the room anyway! Then she discounted the price, so I didn't pay for the chocolates and candles anyway! This was outstanding customer service! Anita and Larry were outstanding, too...always eager to help. Anita is an incredible cook for both breakfast and dinner. The food was as good as any I have ever had on a cruise ship. The room was great, and we decided to spend most of the day in the room. The parlor was also quaint, so we spent alot of time down there during the day, too. The castle was pretty authentic for a castle. I have visited several UK castles and am studying late medieval religion, so I am very acquainted with castles and the ambiance they project. Obviously, this was not a castle meant for defense or for a village or anything, but the living quarters reminded me of the living quarters at castles in Stirling and Edinburgh. Someone above remarked that they were a bit hokey, but that is the decor that castles have. I had high expectations for this place, and they blew those expectations out of the water. There is danger in overhyping anything, but I firmly believe that if you are looking for a bed and breakfast in the Hocking Hills or Columbus areas, this one should be at the top of your list. Additionally, you may be able to find some coupons through entertainment.com or other sites. Highly, highly, highly recommend this place! read more

The pictures on webpage are not accurate to current condition. Windows are single pane and the wood is rotting out around them. The front porch is falling in and not accessible. There was a large hole in the roof of the carport on the side. Windows were cracked and one was actually missing! A round one in the front. Electrical cover was missing on one outlet I saw. One window had been shoot and had a hole. It didn't even have clear tape over the hole to cover it. Windows in honeymoon suite are blocked (one by both a desk and love seat). Probably afraid that if someone pushes on the window it will fall out and so will you! The other window sits behind a jacuzzi and has a wooden painted peice in front of it that is warped and falling apart. Room was cold. Has a neat broken tile floor design until you relize how sharp the pieces of tile are. Someone could cut their foot on the edges if not careful. Homemade ice is kept in ziplock bags in a freezer on the second floor. Goodies in basket were fruit snacks(2 small packs) potato chips (2 small bags), popcorn (1 bag) and water (2 bottles). All Aldi brand! Not refilled either. Microwave (single one for guest to share) is also on second floor. It's on top of a common fridge for all the guest to share. I didn't feel comfortable using it, so we avoided it. Whoever owns this castle needs to either invest some real money in it or give it to someone that can. It's in sad shape. How it meets code is beyond me. The train tracks are horrible at night. No mention anywhere on the website about that. They seemed to go by every hour at night. The honeymoon suite was like a dark attic room. Not charming or even welcoming. Seemed like an after thought trying to take a large storage room and make it an extra room. My husband paid for a rose, box of fine chocolates, and rose petals on the floor... Fake rose, small box of Russell Stover assorted chocolates and silk rose petals. I understand the fake petals, but a fake long stem rose? A 10 piece mixed Russell Stover box? That was very disappointing. Pros: The hostess was very sweet. The room wasn't dirty and the sheets were clean. The dinner was good. They were on time for serving. Overall: Not worth the price tag that comes with it. Hostess spent time apologizing for storm damage as stated by multiple signs throughout building. Much of damage was evident it wasn't from a storm, but from lack of maintenance, neglect, or no one caring for some time. I can see why you have to prepay and there are no refunds offered if you cancel. I wanted to run as soon as I got there but didn't want to loose almost $500!!! 2 nights!!! I felt really bad for my husband... He booked based on the website and didn't check reviews. His heart fell as soon as we arrived and saw the place. MOST places that charge the prices they do are worth it. He was trying to make it a special time for me. :-( We tried to make the best of it. read more

Our stay at The Castle Inn was relaxing and enjoyable. We liked stain glass windows, room decorations and little garden with tables and chairs. Each room is truly unique in design. The third floor feels intimate and cosy, heart-shaped jacuzzis are very nice. The second floor rooms are bigger and lighter. Dining area and hallways are very pleasant, breakfast was very good too. My wife and I made reservations for a weekend getaway, we were very disappointed. Patsy was our innkeeper, she showed us the room, she was very nice and I am very sorry for getting upset with her, I do not think the problems we encountered were her problems. Pasty showed us to our room, and pointed out the DVD library on our way to the room. At first glance the room was good, after patsy left IO noticed the ice bucket was half full of water so I dumped it out and then noticed the wine glasses have wine residue in them so I rinsed them out, when I did that I notice there was no hand soap in the room. We went to dinner and I called Patsy to let her know, and also asked if the bed sheets were changed and she assured me they were. When we got beck to the Inn we got a DVD to watch and found out there was no DVD player in the room, so I called Patsy, she indicated that the DVD in the room was broken and they had to take it out, she said she would try to find one, I also told here the TV had no signal and was not getting any reception. When I pulled back the bed cover the sheets were wrinkled and then I pulled back the cover sheet and the bottom sheet had stains. I called Patsy again this time I was very upset, I told her the sheets were stained, her response was "the are sheets are clean they are just stained, people use oils and that stains the sheets and the sheets are $300 dollar sheet and they cannot afford to replace them every time they get stained". I could not believe she said this. We refused to spend the night, and when I asked for a refund, I was told they do give refunds. I called Gene, who took our reservation, she was very combative and defensive, she said she inspected room herself, I find that hard to believe. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY STAY AWAY. read more

Only good thing to say about this place is the fact the the Inn Keepers will do everything they can to meet you needs. They are very nice people other then that, I would stay far away because the owners don't care about their costomers. When you call to complain because you paid $350 a night and you froze because the furnace broke during the night due to the fact that they are too cheap do any upkeep. Not to mention that they gave us a room that had broken boarded up windows. You couldn't even take a bath or shower because it took too long to fill or the water presser was horible not to mention the water was so cold it made you cringe. Some couples refused to take a bath due to it. You can tell that the way that they remodle is by painting over the mold. After staying here I had to go to the hospital because I was so sick.... Not fun at all....I agree with the other reviews about taking your chances at a motel 8 with bed bugs being better then this place... Trust me at least you wouldn't freeze and you would get a hot bath or shower. not to mention for the money you save you can buy new stuff. read more
