As soon as we found out, my wife called and was told that it was no problem, that there is a waiting list, and once it is cancelled, we would get a refund. We would be charged a $35 fee, though. Having not yet received a confirmation email, my wife called again, asking about the refund. And she talked to a very rude person who said we were not getting a refund because it included a holiday. Also snapped "it is clearly written in the confirmation" several times and completely ignored the question of someone previously giving us false information. The excuse was "I am a small business and need to survive"... but rings very hollow because there is no doubt it was re-rented, in fact, she is double dipping and making twice the money. Nice little racket, if you ask me. While I did miss the holiday clause in the confirmation (which was made 35 days before the arrival date, so not much time to cancel), the fact that we were told we were getting a refund is a huge problem. If we were told the truth, we would have made arrangements to at least partially attend. And if this is the way they treat customers, I am wondering if I didn't dodge a bullet by not going. Needless to say, I will never patronize this business.

It would make for great strolling and B&B's would only lend to the charm of these gentrified neighborhoods. The Harrison House is one of the few bed and breakfast inns within striking distance of downtown and is situated on the very edge of Ohio State's campus in the neighborhood known as Harrison West (hence the name, Harrison House). The 1890's Victorian home has a great location and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been beautifully renovated to include six rooms that range in price from $129 to $169 dollars. All of the guest rooms have a private bath, queen size bed, cable television and wireless Internet service. Breakfast is included in the price and free parking is available on site- which is a bonus given the street parking in this area is hard to come by at times, especially when Ohio State is in session. I have stayed in loads of insanely beautiful B&B's and have developed super high standards when it comes to these types of accommodations. Aside from the Harrison House being privately owned and located in a nifty part of town, there isn't anything particularly special about the place.

We stayed in Room 2 on the second floor, very handsomely appointed in aqua and coffee tones, with silver accents. The room was lovely and very comfortable, both the bedroom and the en suite bathroom. I enjoyed reading a book in the chair by the window. The backyard was another highlight. There is a small deck, a fireplace, an English-style walking garden, and a main seating area with candles and comfortable camp chairs. In warm weather, it's perfect either for unwinding or for extending a gathering at the end of the day. Apparently the proprietor brings food in the morning? I was not awake in time to witness this; perhaps it is the breakfast fairy. In any case, the spread was noteworthy: besides the drinks, snacks, yogurt, fruit, and cereal available around the clock, there were uncooked eggs, miniature bagels, coffee cake or banana bread, and a variety of seasonal fruit. No matter how heterogeneous your group, everyone will find something to satisfy him- or herself. Sometimes it's the little things--such as the rubber duck in the shower stall, the small fish tank on the kitchen counter, and the soft jazz CD playing in the living room on our arrival. There was a basket of highly watchable DVD movies and a shelf of local-interest books. But the important things stand out too: the entire place was immaculate and the proprietors seem to take good care of both the property and the guests. This is a very strong 4.5. Some of our housemates were staying there for the third time, and I would not hesitate to return with them next time.

The kitchen has filtered water from the fridge, keurig coffee, microwave, and dishes. There are snacks like popcorn, crackers, yogurt, and cereal available all day. In the morning, they put out a fresh pastry (different and delicious each day!), toast, beautiful fresh fruit, and hard boiled eggs. The room had a hair dryer, bar soap, makeup wipes, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. We also had a smart tv so I could log into my own Hulu account. There is a pretty park and lots of little shops and restaurants within walking distance, including a major grocery store. Could not have imagined a better place...I wish I lived there!

What a hotel experience…read more We arrived late to check in and the first room I was given was on a floor had an overwhelming smell of smoke. It was all throughout the hallways. My first room was a tiny outdated old room. It was so stinky in there that I had to request to move. The second room was on another floor thankfully. It was a double bed room though as it was all they had available. It was a very spacious room still outdated but spacious. It was an ADA room which explains why it was so large. The shower however sprayed water all over the floors despite the small lip cover. I'd be worried about someone who has a wheel chair with the amount of water that was on the floor. My final night I was able to get into a king room that was what I originally booked. It was similar size to the first size room but it as updated and modern. It looked directly into another building so I definitely kept the blinds closed. The shower was updated and larger than the original but it was had a moldy mildew smell. My friend also stayed there and her room was massive but she also had a very high status and was only there for one night. I was told every room is different since it's historic. Overall I wouldn't recommend this hotel or return. It's not a good resemblance of the Westin standards and qualities you imagine. I understand it's an historic hotel, but the varying level of different is crazy.

I was told by the host that she used reverse osmosis for her drinking water & that I had been given a bottle of water in my room to drink. I asked for more water when I checked in as I said I drink a lot of water & it was so hot & humid when I visited Columbus on June, 15, 2015. I also said I would like some ice & was told no. I was not given any more water.at that time. So at 10:00 pm that night, I went downstairs to get more water since I had finished the water bottle. I was given a second bottle of water by the host & I asked for another one. Rather that walk into her kitchen to fill up another water bottle from her reverse osmosis system, the host told me no & that I could walk a few blocks to a nearby store to buy water if I wanted more. (She knew I did not have a car & this is 10:00 at night!) The next morning when my daughter visited , she brought me ice & water. The host was upset that my daughter had a cooler with ice and some water for me! The breakfast that was served to me at 9:00 am was mediocre and disappointing (all that was served to me were eggs & yogurt & a loaf of stale bread that was from Costco!). Ironically, the other guests that were in the breakfast room had been given more food. So she must have run out of oatmeal and fruit when I came down to eat at her Bed & BREAKFAST! The host & website had bragged that they only served organic, local products, & one of the best bread bakeries in Columbus was around the corner. The toiletries in the room were substandard & generic (The last B & B I stayed in had Crabtree & Evelyn products)! I think it is very strange that after the host told me not to drink the tap water, she would only give me only one more bottle of water to drink (which I finished before the morning)! Reverse osmosis is not even that expensive to provide! And the news DID CARRY A STORY ON TV that night that the water in Columbus had nitrates in it & that the public should be drinking bottled water until the condition improved. (There were places in Columbus giving out free bottled water.) I would NEVER stay here again. I paid $125. for one night of this lack of service and snobbery! The host was pretentious & condescending! It was a most disappointing experience! Do Not Stay here!!!

However, I can't say with any certainty that I have stayed in ANY hotel that is perfectly quiet and doesn't have noise coming from an elevator, ice machine, or kids running. I can say I had none of that noise here - I could hear my neighbors walking above my room once in a while, and I could hear some city sounds. However, I am staying downtown - hello... The facility is a very unique hotel and provides a very neat atmosphere that you won't get at a lot of places. There are exposed wood beams throughout the rooms on the walls and ceilings, providing a very neat viewpoint. The rooms are huge - I literally had a hallway leading into my room. I found the rooms to be clean and well kept, the bathroom was very clean and had nice amenities provided. I had an excellent view from the room of downtown and it made the experience very nice. I did read in a couple of reviews about the fact that the room uses wooden blinds and not curtains - I didn't think the usage of blinds caused any more light to enter the room than curtains would, but then again I have these at home. Overall a very pleasant experience from check-in onwards. If you are looking for a unique hotel experience while staying in downtown, I would highly recommend you stay here. You will be right in the center of everything, and within walking distance of a lot of great dining experiences.

Maybe the big plant in there or the wood or brick, not sure, but i could not breath, so if you get allergies don't stay on the 5th floor. However, when i called to tell them, they asked if i wanted to move and i said no... the man actually brought me up Alkezelter Cold medicine and Unisom to my door so that I could get some rest... Day 2: the second night it was even worse with the allergies, so i had them move me to a room on the 3rd floor and they did it right away, as soon as i asked, they had a bell man come help me take my things to the new room and the next day made sure I had complimentary breakfast and free internet for my trouble.. Day 3: I needed to wear jeans for a charity day on Thursday (that part was ok) but I sent the only pair of jeans I had to the laundry on Wednesday and was told I could get them back the same day, not the case. After calling several times, they were able to call the laundry service and have them make a special trip back to bring me my jeans in the morning which was a good solution. So that is a good thing. Day 4: I needed to get to a party around the corner, but it was freezing out, so they had the shuttle take me around the block and the guy brought me right to the door. Day 5: In the morning I called and had them take my bags to be checked, so that i could head to the office and pick them up later. Then they drove me in the shuttle to work. When i got back, getting my luggage was a pain because a giant bus filled with rude people pulled up and they all wanted to check luggage. I tried to tell people i was trying to catch a plane, but they were not interested.. finally i caught a valet and told him, he called a airport shuttle 20.00 flat fee plus tip (not bad) and got me my bags so i could go change into my travel clothes.. they got me to the airport and i am writing this review from the airplane via wireless by gogo inflight..
