Went back twice over the last two weeks firstly to an unremarkable meal and then back to an awful meal. We were greeted by who I assume was the boss. His attitude was broad disinterest with an undercurrent of "what do you want, here it is". Waiting staff were good although the table was set with cracked glasses and dirty cutlery. On our first visit the food was just about OK but my wife didn't enjoy her dessert but put it down to a poor choice. On our second visit a week later we got the same indifferent reception from the boss. We ordered two starters, pâté and a pigeon terrine both of which, slightly surprisingly came out dressed identically with swirls of a somewhat insipid orange and white sauces. The pigeon terrine was dry, tough and lacked the depth of flavour one expects from game. For a main course I had a sirloin steak which whilst cooked as I requested (rare) was a tough as shoe leather. It was far from the best piece of meat I have ever tasted and was of rather poor quality. Dessert was supposed to be Apple Strudel but arrived looking like it had been in a serious car accident and then drenched in syrup sauce. It was claggy and over sweet. All in all a very disappointing meal, we won't ever return and I wouldn't recommend it.

We cannot thank The Ship enough for their hospitality. We recommend a visit if you are on the island.

We rush back from where we have been visiting and grab a pint before closing time. They stock a complete array of local ales and if you look on the ceiling you will find all the different locally brewed brands they have had. The food is great, never had a meal we could complain about, lovely baked goats cheese starter, seafood broth, and of course, all locally caught. Recommended with a great and very brisk walk along the sands with views of Dunstanburgh castle. Fantastic photo opportunities abound here. In fact I hate to give this little place away, but don't worry you don't stand a chance of getting booked in anywhere around here, everyone else has discovered it well before we did.

This was presented beautifully and was so tasty. Definitely one of the best vegetarian options I have tried in a while. As for desserts, I would have liked to have seen a lighter, fruit-based option, so decided against a dessert. However, my dining companions all ordered desserts and were suitably impressed. If you are looking for somewhere to have a special meal, luck or evening, I don't think you could go wrong with The Cobbles, Kelso.

It is so pretty in the summer when it is adorned with flowers that you just can't help but want to stop off there as you're passing through :-) Inside it is rather more modern than you might expect and quite smart for a pub. There is a bar area, and a room off to the side with leather chairs and sofas and a TV. At the other end of the pub there is an extensive dining area and the pub does seem heavily geared towards dining. We had just popped in for a beer and there was Black Sheep and Old Speckled Hen on both of which were very pleasant. The staff were welcoming and friendly and we spent a relaxing and very enjoyable hour there.

The Black Swan in the busy little seaside destination of Seahouses is very much a local's pub…read more However, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It is small and compact with a darts board and a jukebox and in some ways is a bit of a relief from the more touristy and cramped Olde Ship Inn and the nondescript hotel feel of the Bamburgh Castle Inn. The cask beer was excellent too, so basically if you're visiting Seahouses and don't want all the hassle of the more food orientated and touristy pubs why not pop in here for a good pint of beer :-)

As a lapsed Geordie its great to get back amongst the locals and my accent soon returns. We are going back on 3rd September lookout Sunday lunch on 4th As promised arrived back at Black Swan on 4th for Sunday Lunch, and once again arrived early to ensure a seat. Lovely friendly atmosphere, we got a warm welcome when we arrived. They do a good range of food served Mon-Sat 12pm -8pm and Sunday Lunch 12pm - 3pm. I have not tried a Sunday lunch yet but have been midweek when the food was lovely, generous portions! I thought the cost of the main meals were very good and were what I expect from a local pub. Talking to the lady behind the bar she informed us that they have just added some B&B accommodation, this will come in handy for relatives visiting us from Yorkshire, a bit different from the usual premier inn. The pub itself has a very nice lounge, very relaxing with fireplace. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant and this has a warm atmosphere. There is a separate bar area which also has a nice feel to it. I will come back here again, and although I do not live in Ellington, i wish this was my local! Plenty of parking outside the pub. Can't speak too highly of the food, some fussy eaters were really blown away by the quality of the food. The Inn itself, is lovely and comfortable, with great atmosphere. Thanks for making the meal special x
