Chraming cosy pub in Ellington Village in Northumberland. Near to cresswell beach & druridge bay,…read moreyou can easily stop off here if you are on your way up the coast to amble, or coming back down from that way. Very easy to find and such a nice place. Lovely friendly atmosphere, we got a warm welcome when we arrived. They do a good range of food served Mon-Sat 12pm -8pm and Sunday Lunch 12pm - 3pm. I have not tried a Sunday lunch yet but have been midweek when the food was lovely, generous portions! I thought the cost of the main meals were very good and were what I expect from a local pub. Talking to the lady behind the bar she informed us that they have just added some B&B accommodation, this will come in handy for relatives visiting us from Yorkshire, a bit different from the usual premier inn. The pub itself has a very nice lounge, very relaxing with fireplace. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant and this has a warm atmosphere. There is a separate bar area which also has a nice feel to it. I will come back here again, and although I do not live in Ellington, i wish this was my local! Plenty of parking outside the pub. Fantastic pub grub with a good atmosphere and pleasant surroundings, I'll be back!

One of the group cheekily added her request to the already comprehensive menu,........ and got it, Katrina actually going out to obtain her request. Stunning!! Can't speak too highly of the food, some fussy eaters were really blown away by the quality of the food. The Inn itself, is lovely and comfortable, with great atmosphere. Thanks for making the meal special x

This is a stylish, somewhat up-market pub in Alnwick, just a 5-8 minute walk from Alnwick Castle &…read moreGardens (= Hogwarts). I recommend this place to all visitors to the town, and of course especially to those who are feeling peckish after a visit to the castle, which is *the* major tourist attraction in this town. Okay, let's face it: The *only* tourist attraction. The decor is clean, bright and stylish, the menu not excessively long (just five or so starters & mains each - always a good sign), and all the "specials" (mains) cost UKP 10. I had the beef burger with chips and salad garnish, and it was one of the best burgers I've had in my life (and I've had quite a few). Instead of the standard sesame bun, here they use a breakfast brioche, which is much more tasty (and slightly sweet). And instead of the often flabby American-style chips that you get at so many pubs, they serve crisp French fries here. The patty itself is juicy and of good quality. It's also enough to feed a grown man. The beer selection is not vast, but includes 2-3 handpumped ales, plus the usual roster of fizzy lagers. There's a nice wine selection as well. Of course, the place offers the "full bar" range. Staff is friendly, if not especially committed. Don't expect anyone asking you whether you're enjoying the food. Perhaps you have to be a local to get that kind of attention.

Service was awful! We were waiting at the bar and the staff kept ignoring us. When we asked if we…read morecould get served they said they were doing their best and working both sides of the bar. There were 4 bar staff all working the same area and had to come over to where we were to pour the beers, so they knew we were there and waiting. It then became obvious they were doing it on purpose as they began whispering to each other and smiling. The one guy behind the bar said he would be right with us and then walked over and started serving someone else. We finally put our money away and walked out and went to a great pub down the street. Horrible service, tables littered with dirty glasses and plates that nobody was clearing up. I would say avoid and keep walking!! They need some serious customer service training.

Plough Inn - Excellent burger with French fries. The real challenge is to eat the salad off the board without making a mess.
