It is so pretty in the summer when it is adorned with flowers that you just can't help but want to stop off there as you're passing through :-) Inside it is rather more modern than you might expect and quite smart for a pub. There is a bar area, and a room off to the side with leather chairs and sofas and a TV. At the other end of the pub there is an extensive dining area and the pub does seem heavily geared towards dining. We had just popped in for a beer and there was Black Sheep and Old Speckled Hen on both of which were very pleasant. The staff were welcoming and friendly and we spent a relaxing and very enjoyable hour there.

Most of our party had some local beers, which they enjoyed. I had a rhubarb gin with sparkling water, which was very refreshing. The bartender was great. I didn't make it inside, but it looked like they had some small rooms with more seating. We saw some people with food, so they had a few options for snacks with your beverage. It's an unofficial local nexus for Fence Records, the small indie label started by a friend of mine over a decade ago, and chances are if you pop in here on a Friday afternoon you might just run into someone you know. Over the years the Ship has seen its share of music, and like any local pub worth anything it has a healthy cast of regulars who'll you'll find propping up a bar stool everyday. The nautical theme is par for the course in this seaside village, but there are loads of really neat historical shots framed and hanging on the walls that are worth checking out if you're ever in there.
