It is so pretty in the summer when it is adorned with flowers that you just can't help but want to stop off there as you're passing through :-) Inside it is rather more modern than you might expect and quite smart for a pub. There is a bar area, and a room off to the side with leather chairs and sofas and a TV. At the other end of the pub there is an extensive dining area and the pub does seem heavily geared towards dining. We had just popped in for a beer and there was Black Sheep and Old Speckled Hen on both of which were very pleasant. The staff were welcoming and friendly and we spent a relaxing and very enjoyable hour there.

Lovely friendly atmosphere, we got a warm welcome when we arrived. They do a good range of food served Mon-Sat 12pm -8pm and Sunday Lunch 12pm - 3pm. I have not tried a Sunday lunch yet but have been midweek when the food was lovely, generous portions! I thought the cost of the main meals were very good and were what I expect from a local pub. Talking to the lady behind the bar she informed us that they have just added some B&B accommodation, this will come in handy for relatives visiting us from Yorkshire, a bit different from the usual premier inn. The pub itself has a very nice lounge, very relaxing with fireplace. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant and this has a warm atmosphere. There is a separate bar area which also has a nice feel to it. I will come back here again, and although I do not live in Ellington, i wish this was my local! Plenty of parking outside the pub. Once we figured it out, I ordered the ham and cheese melt and my sister ordered the seafood pasta. Her pasta had really great flavor, wasn't fishy at all, and quite surprisingly had the best lemon citrus combination! I was pretty envious because my ham and cheese melt definitely did not hit the mark and was pretty flavorless. The chips were sadly also a miss.

Our last visit was the final straw, if I was being generous I would describe the service as impersonal, unsmiling and not particularly welcoming but if I was being completely honest I would have to describe it as unpleasant if not downright offensive. Okay, let's face it: The *only* tourist attraction. The decor is clean, bright and stylish, the menu not excessively long (just five or so starters & mains each - always a good sign), and all the "specials" (mains) cost UKP 10. I had the beef burger with chips and salad garnish, and it was one of the best burgers I've had in my life (and I've had quite a few). Instead of the standard sesame bun, here they use a breakfast brioche, which is much more tasty (and slightly sweet). And instead of the often flabby American-style chips that you get at so many pubs, they serve crisp French fries here. The patty itself is juicy and of good quality. It's also enough to feed a grown man. The beer selection is not vast, but includes 2-3 handpumped ales, plus the usual roster of fizzy lagers. There's a nice wine selection as well. Of course, the place offers the "full bar" range. Staff is friendly, if not especially committed. Don't expect anyone asking you whether you're enjoying the food. Perhaps you have to be a local to get that kind of attention.
