This place is my parents' "local" and, without fail, I always visit when I'm home for the weekend. It's located in a small estate in North Shields and you'll have guessed by now that it may be the hottest place in town in fact its the opposite. However the reason why this place is so great is authentic charm it has about it - the type you watch on a movie based in the countryside where all the customers know each other...
Owned by a friendly couple the pubs' selection of drinks is, as you would expect - fully stocked. With some good ale on tap (my Dad is very happy here) and wine by the glass there is something for everyone! Often accompanied by a number of light bites; such as pork pies and crisps it adds to the friendly atmosphere when the owners come round personally with the plates!
I would say it never gets mega busy here but the chilled mood is great for a pre-dinner drink. The place is starting to get a bit old and worn - it is in need of a good re-furb...although saying that I'm not sure this place would have the same feel if they did! However a new carpet and seat covers wouldn't go a miss...
The pub serves food during lunchtimes - offering a range of good home cooked favorites from prawn curry to chilli con carne! I've also eaten a fair few Sunday lunches here - it comes very close to my Mum's! Served with all the trimmings; Yorkshire puddings, mash AND roasties with seasonal veg. The best thing about this place is the endless amount of gravy they bring out! I am a huge fan of this place - it's got that old-style pub charm that is sadly lacking in the rest of Newcastle. read more
